Sour grapes are not great at a wedding.

Why would Dan Andrews do this

    • +38

Dude it's a trap. $1299 to start the contract and $120,000 to break it + you get life time of payment plan.

      • +57

We already have a child and two mortgages. All of this chat in here about marriage being some kind of incel cult is pretty concerning.

You'll get cleaned out just the same if you're in a defacto relationship as if you were in a registered marriage. Only difference is that you need to be separated for 12 months and go through Tony Abbott's marriage counselling before you can split up as a married couple. The financial (and custody) consequences are the same.

      • You nails it this time Dan, well done.

      • NSW Government is trolling. lol

      • +5

It doesn’t take $1299 to start the contract. If you’re in the position to do this, you probably have already started the contract despite the lack of this piece of paper.

    • +2

How is this a role for government?

It’s getting too big as it is.

      • +6

Is promoting tourism and economic development not a role for government?

        • -2

Government is more likely a drag on economic development.

      • Crazy thought… bit far fetched but maybe to reduce housing stress.. people move out of parents home, parents downsize or move out of shared apartment to live with partner

        • +1

You don't need a subsidised wedding to move in with your partner.

      35 people is micro

      Suitable for minions

    • +9

You're doing well if you've only been to weddings with <35 people! In my experience most have been what I'd consider modest at 80-100!

    • Well, it comes down to whether you invite just family and wedding party friends (best man/maid of honour etc), or a wider range of friends as well.

If you decide to invite friends outside of wedding party is starts to get very tricky as you don't want to offend. Hence we went with first option and it was still around 45-50 people.

      • We had ours interstate on an island, thinned out the people who actually wanted to be there. Was 30ish in the end
        .

        • Yep… that's always a winner as well.

        • +3

Australia is sort of an island

Not just micro in people, its also only 20 mins. Fast food wedding!

    • Mine was around 600, 5 years ago…

      • +1

        Haha, can you name them?

        • +1

          I can name 1/10 of them… 9/10 are parents' friend and colleagues…

      • 600 ,,wtf i don’t think i think i could get 60 to a wedding let alone 600 ..what nationality are you ? i know arab weddings can have a few guest but 600 that huge

              • +1

@Dealor: And i can bet these would be the very relatives first on the scene when you win lotto asking for a share of the winfall.

Nice try centrelink. Register marriage = no centrelink benefits #defacto lol

Negging to warm my brothers in Bankstown, greenacre, punchbowl and lakemba lol 😂😂😂.
    Dont fall for this trap.

    • +1

Also giving the state to decide on how to disburse your assets and the fat cat lawyers most of it; when things go pear shaped

      • +23

defacto is treated similarly in family court - not getting registered doesn't offer protection from that

        • Prove it. Marriage = Proof

        • How about single mom, single dad

        • What about assets brought into a marriage? If it’s not in the other party’s name how can any ruling force anyone to “transfer” these assets? It’s a civil not criminal matter.

          • +4

@abc: Family court can make orders for defacto relationships as well. It can transfer/sell whatever it sees fit. Has nothing to do with criminal? Property is transferred all the time in civil cases.

            • +1

@killingtime: Same if your legally married.
Half of everything is not a set rule.
End of the day, magistrates decision is final

            • -1

@killingtime: My point is if the assets are in single name only? Sure a court could make a ruling but actioning it is another thing entirely.

The authorities are not going to point a gun at you forcing you to sign over or sell assets.

              • +1

                @abc: They have other ways.

Another thing to consider is a divorce may also result in a splitting up of superannuation funds.

              • +3

@abc: Nah for example a house, Court can just direct the title registry to transfer it. Don't need input from us. They have bailiffs to sieze things that aren't real property. Remember the court is the government and those guys control everything.

                • @killingtime:

                  …the court is the government…

                  Incorrect.

                  • +3

@GG57: Um.. It's one of the three arms of government? https://www.ag.gov.au/legal-system/courts. Maybe you're thinking that is independent whichever party is in power, which it is. Doesn't mean it's not part of the government.

Did you skip year 7? https://peo.gov.au/teach-our-parliament/units-of-work/year-7…

                    • @killingtime:

Under Australia’s Constitution, our judiciary is independent from the other arms of government. The separation of powers doctrine means that in interpreting and applying the law, judicial officers act independently and without interference from the parliament or the executive

                      • +3

@GG57: Yes that dosen't mean it's not part of the government. It's an independent arm. If not part of the government what do you think it is. A social club?

End of the day no one cares what you or I think. This is in text books and the constitution.

                        • @killingtime: The difference is that you said it ' is the government', not 'it's part of the government'.

                • -1

@killingtime: The government can do whatever it wants to, and there is nothing we plebians can do about it. The government has a monopoly on force. The government (via the ATO) knows everything about our finances. There is no hiding from or avoiding the government. When the government takes an interest in you, be very, very afraid.

              • +1

@abc: They're called Court Orders. Not guns.

    • +21

      What did I do?

    • +1

Even without registration you are not eligible for Centrelink if you have a partner and make more than the limit.

      • -1

Why work when you can make babies, declare de facto relationship and get paid more in benefits than an average hard working australian lol

        • +1

You will be still poor and struggle with the meaning of life.

          • +2

@Mistredo: Not if im driving a C65s with centrelink money and have a 3 bed waterfront housing comission for $80 a week lol

            • @easternculture: haha my dad has a 2 bedroom unit at cronulla near the beach thx to dept of housing

        • -1

So much child related welfare now, even more so for low income people. FTB Part A and Part B, free schooling, almost free child care (government pays 95%), bulk-billed dental, bulk-billed medical, public housing (a detacted house rather than the pigeon-coop apartment singles get)… The more children you have, the richer you become.

    • +3

Jokes aside, doesn’t deflect the truth in these areas,
especially when their strong beliefs and there anti-Covid views and criminal activities start affecting the wellbeing of random innocent citizens individuals

    No Cashrewards/shopback?

  • Is this for NSW residents only?

    • Don't see anything that states so.
Seems that its just for anyone that wants to get married in nsw.

    • Section 92 of the Constitution would say NSW can’t restrict trade.
If it tried to you could always challenge in the high court for fun.
