Looking for a Bank Account with and EFTPOS/ATM Only Card (Not Visa or Mastercard Debit)

I have been told by Bendigo Bank that they no longer offer an EFTPOS/ATM card and that Debit Mastercard is the only option. I have cancelled the card and will soon have a bank account with no card attached, which is minor inconvenience most of the time until it isn't.

Are there any banks that offer EFTPOS/ATM cards anymore?

What's wrong with a debit mastercard?

eftpos card can't be used for online purchases, a drawback for most but may be a safety feature for others

I'm sure limitations can be set easily enough, same as tap and go can be disabled

        • Could be just someone wanting to avoid all that steps/setup and keep things old school, maybe for kids or a senior. I'd stick to Visa/MC cards myself.

Found an interesting thread yesterday on what kids these days do when given $50 that can be spent online

@payton: Somebody who had thousands ripped off their credit cards and doesn’t want the same thing to happen to their real actual money.

Yes, it got all fixed up, but it took months.

No way I’m ever having a credit card number associated with my money.

    • Higher surcharge possibilities I suspect

  • St George still does 'bank cards' from memory but that was like 5 years when I enquired one for my niece, they may not do it now. But worth a shot asking them.

Commonwealth Bank Smart Access account has (had?) an EFTPOS option, also look at Suncorp Carbon Insights

Actually. looks like Comm Bank offer an EFTPOS keycard option with a number of accounts

  • Pretty much everything is Visa Debit or similar

  • Westpac - Children's accounts.

  • if you don't want to go with the big banks, IMB bank's Everyday Account comes with a choice of EFTPOS card or Visa Debit.
Check the PDS on bank fees tho, this bank is slightly different in how they do business.

Thanks, I would not have thought of them. I'm looking into their fees. May be a case of just having the account solely for the 1 time a year I need to use the ATM.

Also, they have Osko & PayID but they need you to send a form witnessed by a JP, accountant (or other professions listed) or a branch visit before they activate it.

And this being ozbargain .. few times a year, they offer $50 for opening an acct so might want to open acc at another bank and only open IMB when that offer is on again.

  • My mum has an eftpos/atm card on her Bendigo Bank account.

    • She will be getting a letter to tell her -

As of 19 December 2023 you won't be able to use your Easy Money card to access your account.

      • And you can save her a phonecall. I already spoke to them and there are no other options for a card.

  • People's Choice CU offer an EFTPOS card for $2.50 per quarter from memory.

  • Some Banks have card block function.
