Whirlpool Forum Is Not What It Was

Every time I try whirlpool forum - the vicious crowd either abuse you outright and call you stupid or the over-eggoed moderator deletes you.
For me, it's a world of thousands of angry cranks and self-righteous boilers.

I even got a question deleted because I asked it for my disabled son… wow - it was about scraping metals. I said my disabled son would like to know… and within 1 minute they deleted it. Lovely people…

The time before that I asked about diesel fuel in alpine weather (I'm from Qld) and the sheer abuse was tremedous because "I" didn't know.

Anyone else experience this outright hate?

Thanks all.

Addition:
Thanks to the nice people on here, but it seems some are challenged like WP

came for the bargains….stayed for the life advice

    • +27

Wow is the average here really $350k pa?

      • +4

        $250k+ to be exact.

      • -7

        I'm at $349K pa

      • +2

It's actually $250k pa but with 40% interest pa from Boost profits.

Who earns more; whirlpool or r/ausfinance?

      • +6

r/ausfinance by far. They are the 1% lol

        • +5

The real retards are at r/ASX_Bets

          • +13

@mikstylo: I think the real retards are the ones who have beef with and within online forums.

          • +1

@mikstylo: No mate, we're just koala and loss porn enthusiasts

        • +5

          No way.

All the arts and sociology majors from r/Australia who earn about $35k p.a in a low level service role have invaded r/ausfinance.

          • +1

@ankor: This it's non-stop 'This company shouldn't be allowed to make a profit' talk these days.

        • +2

Lol not by a long shot. r/AusHENRY is where the relatively upper echelons are.

          • @ThadtheChad: Why henry

            • +5

@capslock janitor: High Earning Not Rich Yet.

You know the usual slang that came from the yanks, FIRE and its derivatives (FAT, Barista, Chubby, lean etc).

AusFinance is more grassroots focused as was evidenced by a running sentiment these days that making a 100k a year is "rich". There was another thread around Macquarie stopping cash transactions at the branches (3 in total around the country), and a whole bunch were all outraged and were advising others to vote with their feet when the reality is that Macquarie doesn't really cater to their demographic.

Mmmm, many on here are not - hence the mindless negging of perfectly benign and uncontroversial posts.

not sure if you were missing the /s warning?

Sir, I believe you are forgetting all our high-yield investment vehicles.

    • +2

Damn you, stole my thunder with the very first comment. I was going to say that if you make less than $450,000 annually on Whirlpool you are at the bottom of the food chain.

  • +5

yes they are too strict.. cant say this that or people abuse you due to incorrect grammar

    • -6

Your ever changing grammar is interesting

      • ok grammar karen!

        • +2

Why must you be so mean?

          • +7

@[Deactivated]: No, he was saying you have ok grammar

            • -3

@spackbace: My grammar is excellent & I'm not a 'karen' so he was definitely being mean

@mikstylo: And here I thought the full stop was more important than a comma.

        • +3

I don’t get it - neither of my Grammers were named ‘Karen’. scratches head…

I've never had a thread or a comment deleted, other than when I quoted another comment that was deleted. So either I pay off the mods or….there could be an issue with how you are presenting your comments. Or it could be the forums you visit and hitting a particular mod.

    • +2

      Same.

      • +3

Nah you're nasty judging by the way you frame your statements. Ranting and raving seems to be the jist of your comments.

    • +2

I have had multiple comments deleted for some pretty incredibly petty reasons. e.g. one for using the word "crap" to describe a product. Another time for saying an idea was stupid as this was classed as a person attack even though the idea was incredibly stupid. Mods can be incredibly strict on the modding, especially if it is something they personally don't like.

Whirlpool Forum Is Not What It Was

    What was it before then?

    • -2

      a measly trickle of piss

    • +8

It wasn't overly censored/moderated like it is now, the threads were more open to free discussion. Now everything, especially in the News threads, seems to be marked as "off-topic" or "trolling" if it doesn't follow the agreed narrative. This is from coming from someone who still has a "bright" aura on WP.

      • +1

Yes! Definitely in News threads I notice it far more often.

      • -1

They are simply following the misinformation & disinformation strategies the government are implementing under the guise of protecting people from harm. It is propaganda, no doubt, but they believe they are doing the right thing & it gives them a sense of control.

      • +2

Same here. Get involved in the wrong argument or get on the wrong person's side and you get bullied and trolled. The difference between Whirlpool and a more honest forum is that the rules ensure that the trolls get so good at it, that they basically gaslight you into stepping over the mod's "thin red line". I know because after I got kicked out, I came to realise how I used to do it myself; you try to get a point across but work within the moderation rules. You become end up becoming a gaslighter. After I realised how my argument method had been formed by Whirlpool, I realisec how shameful it was. And I was "Pervasively Light" on WP.

And get on the wrong side of Thor or Tangles and they'll make sure you're gone. They'll stalk your every word and wait for you to trip up just to get rid of you.

    • +2

It was a bunch of people urinating in a circular direction into each other's hands but over time it turned into many people doing it thus creating the Whirlpool Forums

  • +13

I'm gonna take a wild guess the OP has an 'interesting' Whirlpool post history and dismal aura.

    • …. dismal aura

lol - green tourmaline should fix that

    • lol….but me auras!!!

    • +1

I had a "Pervasively Light" aura and … I actually agree with the OP. It's become a haven for gaslighters.

  • +2

welcome to 15 years ago! ….at least!

  • +9

It’s just a forum why do you care?

      • +52

Your just as bad as the people you complain about.
Instead of just answering or ignoring and moving on you feel the need to respond in some sarcastic garbage.

        • +10

100% this. I had a little sympathy for op initially, was quite open, and was annoyed at the disparaging comments and responses from others.

As the thread went down and I saw OPs responses my mind slowly changed… OP doesn't seem to be interested in engaging, but only wants validation.

          • +4

            @ratman:

OP doesn't seem to be interested in engaging, but only wants validation

This is the MO of every OzBargain forum poster

      • +5

Yeah, OP's experience with forums is a complete mystery /s

      • +12

Now we know why your question got deleted…

You’re just an angry crank and a self righteous boiler!

  • +15

Why do you waste people's time when you could just google the answer? They don't have that in Qld yet?

  • +3

geez…3 x reports! the oxbargain thread natzees are out in force!

  • +16

The commenters in the EV car threads are really intense. Say anything negative about a Tesla and you will get absolutely hammered. It's hilarious watching them try to defend new stalkless indicators in the Tesla 3 update. They simply cant comprehend why anyone wouldnt buy a $70k EV instead of literally anything else

    • They should rename the forum to Tespool

    • +1

Nowadays there are teams and groups of people employed
in a kind of information warfare, to drown down any opposition to a guided narrative.

Whether it's forums or any social-media posts,
the commenters use tactics to stifle any debate
to bury other opinions, and even resort to trolling.

You just have to assume this or they're "bots".
Then, there are those that are neither of them,
but they get emboldened by 'seeing' this behaviour too,
and imitate this, for their own validation.

I said my disabled son would like to know

Does it make a difference whether you asked or your disabled son asked?

      • +27

They've asked an interesting question and presented it in a straight manner without accusation or invective.

Given your reaction. I'm pretty skeptical that WP is the problem. Based on this thread you lash out at very minor negativity, skepticism, questioning.

Here are two potential answers you could have gone with instead to give you an idea of what I would expect from someone who is discussing something in good faith

'perhaps not but I just wanted to set some context for why I was asking'.

'i think so.y experience is that people pick on and discriminate against the disabled and their family. I can't prove it but I suspect it was a motivation in my treatment.'

        • +4

The OP sounds exactly like some crank character from kings quest that responds negatively to every question you can put in except that one single thing that gets him to give you the mcguffin you need to pass that part of the game

          • +1

@Jackson: Day of the Tentacle and Grim Fandango were better games :p

            • +1

@ankor: Day of the Tentacle and Monkey Island 1 are possibly my all time favourites

          • -1

@Jackson: Lol at Ops new addition to the Op, calling anyone who isn't circle jerking with him on the same level as "challenged".

I'm not an active user on whirlpool, and I don't doubt that it's full of a-holes. But man, in some instances, whirlpool may not actually be the issue.

          • @Jackson: God. Kings Quest was so brutal. Those Sierra games were a very large and very frustrating part of my childhood.

      • +13

You wonder why you have faced those issues… I don’t think whirlpool is the problem.

      • This is the funniest response. No doubt OP is a troll?

  • +1

It'll happen to OZB too one day. It happens to all sites no matter how big or small they are. Facebook is kind of immune because it's made up of individual communities and there are no "super mods" or admins that govern or even care what happens in each community, but you can think of Facebook as more like the entire internet rather than an individual social site.

    • +7

Have you been on Facebook lately? All social media has deteriorated to a whole new low.

      • My bubble is pretty clean, mostly just memes and jokes. I think Facebook puts you in whatever bubble you naturally want to be in, or maybe not the bubble you want but the bubble you deserve. Which is scary because Facebook could probably swing elections if they wanted to. Facebook could float or sink a lot of companies too if they wanted too, it's an insane amount of power. Luckily Facebook seems mostly satisfied making ad money and not meddling in world affairs, mostly.

        • +1

          Hilarious, but probably on point.

Well, Brexit and Trump are someone glaring counterexamples that are going to screw the world for decades to come.
