  • So it starts 18th? Chances of snagging 1 or 2 are slim at best as previous few (paid) offers from them, their site/servers crashed. This is free, you know the outcome. Come out of it emptyhanded & a heap of wasted time….

Have to say though worth a shot if you got nothing better to do & in the spirit of OzB.

  • more of a comptetion for who can click + book the fastest - rather than a bargain

I read this as "Free Asia Tickets".
Must have just been in the Heat of the Moment.

This post deserves hundreds of upvotes. Nearly had coffee shoot out of my nose.

.. So not only will you be competing against people in oz trying to score free tickets while they're over there - but also competing with everyone in malaysia .. >.<

    Not for me, thanks OP.

    • I've watched people in China up late at night on computers trying to buy cheap AA tickets.
Many people (like me) book a free ticket from KL to home & later buy the ticket to KL - a 1/2 price hol.
That's a lot more people to compete with!! (Lost a lot of sleep on these free tickets before & never got 1.)

Bring it Malaysia, OzBargain gonna get these tickets before you do.

  • Based on my past experience I've found that using the mobile.airasia.com has given me a better success rate in snapping up cheap tickets rather than the using the main site.

    • is it me or does the app no longer work?

      • it doesn't load the airport lists

AirAsia would like to inform all our valued guests that the AirAsia Mobile Apps (on iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Nokia) will no longer be available until further notice.less

For the time being, AirAsia guests can go to www.airasia.com to book flights, manage their booking and check-in.

AirAsia is committed to the continual innovation and quality of our mobile services and we will be working towards launching replacement mobile services.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused to our guests, and appreciate their patience throughout this period of interruption.

        • thank you

  • So does anyone know the t&c? Like does free actually mean $0 outlay or do you have to add fuel, taxes etc?
Can't seem to get any of the links to work properly on my phone..

    • The uploaded flyer says free but the actual booking page has fares in it - I assume these are the taxes and surcharges.

    • Ticket cost will be $0 but you will have to add tax + fuel surcharge.

For instance Perth>KL return, the taxes/fees are $140 + $83 and the ticket cost is $129 + $129 in May next year. $0 ticket will cost you $223 assuming your lucky enough to get $0 both ways.

Scoot GC/Sydney to/from Singapore, plus Air Asia on to KL is about the same price or cheaper than Air Asia free fares if you pay taxes etc. Plus no late night online gamble to see if you are lucky.

Comparison of one-way tickets for flight on 1 May 2013 bought around now…
AA GC-KL (Promo Fare): $299 / free flight: $119 Airport charges & fees
AA Syd-KL (Promo Fare): $329/ free flight: $156 Airport charges & fees
        Scoot Syd/GC-KL: $138 + $18 Air Asia (promo fare) Sin-KL = $156

(Fares are usually cheaper into Australia, incl taxes, booked on overseas site of airline.)

Just back from KL: $18 Air Asia (promo fare) KL-Sin + $78 Scoot Sin-GC (carry-on, no food).
That's cheaper than free with Air Asia.

OK, $78 Sin-GC/Syd tickets are not available at the moment, but were available last month http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/77415 and in March, or $123 on 5/9, & $138 now.

  • I only see local/Asia flights? Nothing from Australia?

    • You are a bit eager…
Promo says starts 18th for domestic flights within Malaysia & other countries - as shown now.
International sale starts 20th! (But Taxes can make FREE Australian flights dearer than Scoot!!)
      http://upload.ozbargain.com/2012/09/16/9392_air_asia.jpg

      • Ah, I figured they would show International prices as well, but START the booking on the 20th. Scoot doesn't fly from Melbourne as far as I'm aware, so it's not an issue.

I didn't want to take the gamble so got the scoot ones last night
    Coolangatta to Singa
    Upgraded seats
    Upgraded baggage
$768 total for two (plus convenience fee) making it a neat $800 or $400 each return

  • Damn, not as good as my most recent trip.. Syd-KL $250 return incl. meal, fees & taxes
