I was thinking getting a 270 awning. But not sure how often I would be using it.

Yeah…I always think it's weird when you see 4wd camping setups….and the campers spread out their little awnings attached to their vehicle and jam a few chairs and a kitchen setup under there. I mean, the whole idea of being outdoors is primarily to enjoy the wide open spaces, staring up at the stars, and just generally not feeling cramped, having a 360° view of your surroundings?
Even if its raining, I'd much rather just whack up a tarp with a few poles. Least you aren't so cramped and can feel like you are still in nature.. IMHO. There must be something I'm missing here.😀

      • I see these as more for the impromptu stop at a rest stop type situation.

        • and 4WD tracks where you cannot take a caravan etc.

        • the 270s are probably better for impromptu stops because you can swing them out/in in a few seconds. Actually a lot easier than these which is often a bit of a two man job.

I mean I get why people have them, but I just personally think at this size they're a little pointless. I guess they're OK if you need a tiny bit of shade during a quick stop, or shelter if you're quickly swagging it.for a night, but anything more than that and I can't see them being overly useful. Cheap ones like this look fragile as hell too, which is made even worse if you start attaching walls/rooms to them.

For my vanlife setup it's all about reducing the time it takes. Rain really hampers living in your car and the extra space is golden to keep dry. None of them really should be left out overnight. Trying to replace a broken awning with a 2nd hand 270 is proving difficult. If anyone has any value proposals… shoot em my way

I'm in the same boat, but 270 awnings are a long way from $59 for how much use it would get

thanks, ordered one to try out awnings
now I need roof racks lol

    • now I need roof racks lol

Or a roof platform, although a bit more expensive.

Depending on where you mount the awning onto the roof racks, 2m may be a little too shallow. I would normally recommend 2.5m.

These are normally $99, not $259. However if the size doesn't bother you, it's still a very decent entry level awning for $59.

    • Do you meant the 2.5m x 2.5m as the 2.0m x 2.5m is just increasing the length and not distance from the car?

      • +1

If you're looking at Dune products then yes, only a 2.5 x 2.5 will give you that extra width out from the vehicle.

It's a big strange as most other brands would have a 2.0 x 2.5 to give you that extra width rather than length along the car.

Thanks. Ordered one for my first awning. I was contemplating a freestanding 270, but will see how much I use this first before upgrading.

  • i still have one from last time, still in the box. i need to install it asap. maybe i will get 2. on for each side, so i think i will buy 1 more. is this normal? is it cool or uncool to do?

    • lol, if you are able to spread it in both directions, maybe it will turn out tobe an ellie.
