Bought this keybaord a few weeks ago. Great keyboard, feels very solid and keys sound great. I got the red switches and sounds great stock

  • What's the best keyboard that's loud enough to annoy everyone?

    • typewriter

Search for “mechanical keyboard” on your favorite marketplace, sort by cheapest, blue switches.

      IBM Model M

    • +12

Just get whatever but then never shut up about customising it, that way you can be much more annoying for longer. Extra points if you're a slow typist.

      • I forgot to ask about the brightest flashing and colour changing LEDs, what the kids call RGB?

What's the most annoying and will this make me a better programmer?

        • +1

I had Puddings on a Anne Pro II - great fun for a while.

Try out Crystal/Clear keycaps. Maybe with a K6 - I think the accidental activation(dedicated lighting key is right next to backspace) is far more annoying than brightness.

Guaranteed to make you a better programmer.

      • Please tell me you know people like this in the office :)

    • Something with a solenoid…

    • A keyboard with buckling springs would likely be the loudest; either a vintage IBM Model F, Model M or its clone manufactured by Unicomp. The spacebar in particular is very loud.

      • Not sure you could really call the unicomps "clones" given they bought out the old IBM production machinery.

        • +1

Sorry that was a poor choice of words - by ‘clone’ I meant ‘replica’.

  • Frosted version also on sale for the same price.

Got a Q5 Keychron for fathers day and was super impressed .
Bought the V6 as a work keyboard and while it has the same brown switches and keycaps it has quite a different feel .
The Q6 costs basically twice the price and on paper seems pretty close but with an all aluminum body it oozes quality feel.
I'm not condoning paying $300 for a keyboard , I'm just saying it's worth trying them out if you can .

I'm waiting for my lemokey l3 to ship. I backed on kickstarter. I have gateron oil king switches and akko neon mda keycaps for it. Also grabbed coiled aviator cable, some dynamat and painters tape. Must owe me about 500 so far. Can't wait to have a real keyboard tho, should be a lot better than my razer huntsman elite that it's replacing

It's also got different mounting style, which would have lead to slightly different typing feeling.

If you want to try modding a V6, you could do something simliar to what this guy suggests, it's a fun weekend activity if you like tinkering with stuff.

    • I've had two - a k6 and now a Q2. I ended up ordering the full kit as there wasn't a significant price difference and it reduced it becoming a project that just sat around(hi GMMK pro).

Decent for the price. From what I've seen, the stock keycaps aren't the best. I've seen reports of them breaking.

I'm using a GMK set on my board and found it to be a decent upgrade.

    • Gasket vs tray mount makes a huge difference. If the V series had gaskets it would feel similar to Q.

Main reason to go V-series is VIA/QMK drivers which are uncommon at that price.

  • this or the nuphy?

    • I'm waiting for the next 20% sale

  • Is keychron good? Looking for a quiet RGB full sized USB keyboard mechanical for about 100$ if such a thing is possible.

    • +1

Keychron is great for the price and would generally match your price if on sale (k10 is around $130 and wireless as well, pay a little more for led). Akko is similar.

That said, would recommend you look into the far superior 1800 or 96% layout if you need a numpad (eg the keychron v5). They're also cheaper. If you want to step it up, leopold is a very good high end prebuilt brand for not that much more but dispenses with many of the features of they keychron (eg led, the knob).

      • What makes the V5 superior other than the numpad? Seems to mostly have the same build/features according to their website? Unless I missed something on small mobile screen

        • You're correct, they're mostly identical, just with a different layout. V5 if you need a numpad. Pick the series you want, and get the model that reflects the keys you want. A 96/1800 layout is better than a full size though if you want a numpad for most people.

Worth mentioning that many Keychrons don't have shine through keys by default - they are pretty reasonable quality keys though but you can't actually see which keys you're pressing in the dark. Also the leds on the south of the key. This is much better for compatibility, but does lead to the keys being washed out if you want to use shine through keys with the letters on the top of the key.

There are keys with the legend on the side (facing the user) which work well with this but they're only available in abs which doesn't "feel" as good as pbt. This is what I've got, it's actually very functional and amuses my daughters to no end".

    • My keychron died after a year for no reason. Stuck in Bluetooth mode and couldn't switch to cable.

      • Could be the little slider switch thing that broke? Reviewera always note that as a weak point when they pull them apart.

  • Ordered the white version off their site for $132. Cant wait for it to arrive

      With Red Switches, too.

    • +1

Has a wider range of switches and colours, although note the cost of delivery if you can't pick up in Melbourne.

    • Yep bought from here last week with red switches. I did pay 13 for shipping, but saves a little on no payment processing fee

Have they fixed the Bluetooth wake-up delay?

    • The V series aren't wireless
