Amazon Deals. Looks mighty fine for the price no? Chime in if it's a deal or not. Thought I might share, plenty home theater nuts here.

These are modestly powered so an elcheapo $200 amp will run these great me presumes…

If a half decent amp can be bought for $250 - $300 here in Aussie land, for a total of $570 to $620 with the speakers, I am sure these will blow the LG's, Samsungs out of the water. Again, chime in home theater guru's.

The blah blah….

' The S 426 floorstanding speakers feature dual 5 ½” bass/midrange drive units in a reflex-optimized enclosure and a low resonance 1” tweeter mounted in a Jamo Waveguide. The result is a punchy, yet refined, and detailed sound that will make your movies and music more enjoyable.

In order to generate a believable three dimensional soundscape to enhance both movies and music, the S 420 CEN center channel and S 420 SUR surround employ the exact same Waveguide mounted tweeter as the S 426 and a 3 ½” version of the S 426 bass/mid unit to achieve consistent, seamless sound from every direction.
Jamo S 426

To complete the Jamo S 426 HCS 3 system, you can choose a subwoofer from Jamo’s broad range to match your room size, budget and personal preferences. The S 420 SUR and horizontal S 420 CEN include wall brackets for flexible placement and effortless integration with any room.'

Thanks,
DS.

  • Do they still ship to Australia? How much for that big?

  • +2

All up $320.55 incl shipping and yes they do ship international. Just checked.

  • $144 shipping … yikes!

    • Seam cheap for a big bulky item???

  • Seems like a nice deal for a good brand. Strange it's able to be delivered from the USA…. Reasonably cheap..

  • -1

Keep in mind you need a fairly good/much-more-expensive-than-this-set-of-speakers amplifier to match up with it.

  • +2

Rule #1 for buying HT audio. Listen to them frist, regardless of brand, price or reviews.

    • +2

Inclined to agree, although good reviews and a frequency response chart can get you halfway there. Coupled with a price less than half of what typical retailers in Australia charge, it can be worth the risk.

      • if you go to specialists rather than big chains they can cut some pretty amazing deals.

I worked in very high end HT, and when you're small enough to talk directly to reps, they'll occasionally cut your wholesale price, so you can cut your retail.

May I just say though, one universally agreed thing between all the audiophiles i've met; "Jamo, C series, never S series" Regardless of specs or charts, listen to C607's against any similar prices 's' series (well, really MOST speakers in that price bracket, reguardless of brand). You'll be blown away!

        • You can also go visit Lifestyle Store in Parramatta if you live close by. They're overpriced 364 days of the year but when they hold their midnight sale, you can seriously talk the price down on things.

  • would an onkyo NR-609 be able to drive these babies?

Also would this be better than dream acccoustics speaker packs?

    • Yes, with ease.

Without hearing them both, yes, Jamo generally make a much higher quality product.

    • must say im pretty happy with my cheapie dream acoustics though.

cant see a need to upgrade them, think it would be one of things you wouldn't really notice unless they where side by side.

      • yea i'm pretty happy with mine…

  • -6

How can this be a good speakers when it is so cheap?

    • ever heard of…special? introductory pricing? something like that?

    • Thats because the local cost of speakers is very high.

    • Not gonna neg you cause it's kind of a valid question, but the real issue is:

Why are even crap speakers so expensive in Australia?

  • i saw this too..this is craaazy

  • +2

Either Jamo are not the brand they once were, or this is a ridiculously good deal - it's one of the two.

    • S series, has a Jamo badge

      C series, Has Jamo engineering

  • Can i upgrade my Logitech Z550 speakers with these?

    • +1

Not really. The Z550 are powered speakers and don't require an amp. These are just old fashioned speakers and require a $300-$1200 (new) amp to get them at their potential.

      • Ok cheers for that.

I have heard I think the 420 at Harvey Norman 2 years ago when I was shopping for one. They sound a bit too bright for my liking. But this is much better than those Samsung/LG compact home theater systems. I've ended up with Dali Concept speakers. :)

Thanks OP, just got a set to go with the Onkyo TX-NR609 amp I got from JB on the weekend. Hope they work well together. Just need a good deal on a SUBWOOFER to complete my all-Ozbargain surround system. Any suggestions?

  • So would these be good for like a house party, I dont know anything about frequencies but I play mainly electronic dance music with an emphasis on vocals. Also how much would a decent subwoofer cost?

    • Bought locally I'd plan on spending about the same on a sub - ie approx $300.

  • Is this the same system that JB are selling for $1294??

    http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/home%20theatre/speakers/jamo-…

It's a bit of a shame there's no subwoofer included in this deal but still a great price.

    • +1

Same except JB set comes with sub, Amazon set did not, but I reckon I could get a pretty decent sub with the $950 I saved ;)

  • My bad I had some random stuff in the cart

  • Does anyone know how this speaker set compares to this Pioneer one that JB are selling?

    http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/home%20theatre/home%20theatre…

That set is only $792, but when you add the cost of a subwoofer, the JB set looks more attractive, especially as it contains a decent receiver (which alone is worth about 400 bucks, and you could sell it if you already have one).

  • Do you want to listen to music as well as to watch movies? If you only seek to experience movies with special sound effects then the Pioneer system (as well as the Sony Mutaki system) will suffice. If you want to enjoy music as well (loseless high fidelity, not the compressed rubbish) then the Pioneer & Sony systems will disappoint.

I cannot comment on the Jamo system because I have not heard it. But the two reviews I found online (by the same reviewer Review 1 & Review 2) suggest it is built to fit a budget. The fact that the associated subwoofer costs more than all 5 speakers combined should ring a bell.

  • damn….expired as i was making my choice !
    :(

  • I just tried adding to cart and checking out but it says "sorry this item does not ship to your destination"?

    • Possibly an error in the first place, when they saw half a dozen sales go through for shipping to the other side of the World, it caught a supervisors attention. All guesswork on my part.

  • What's the deal with matching a speaker package with an amp? Should the Wattage be the same? or if the total of the amp is less/more than the total of the speakers does it scale accordingly? Does the Wattage of the powered sub factor in? Am I completely off the money?

  • Well it is 399 + shipping now, care to update OP?

  • Will these be as good as the speakers I can get from a hairy tattooed guy in a van at the local shopping centre?

    • If they are selling well known brand name speakers, and if you are lucky that they are real, then maybe. But they usually sell fake or crappy speakers so these JBL's should be better for the same price. (I bought a brand new Yamaha receiver from them cheap and it's still working perfectly after 11 years. lol)

  • I've tried the link it is still 50% off $199?

    • It was $172 I beleive, now its $345 shipped.

  • Anyone tried it since the price went back down again? I'm getting the standard amazon "we don't ship to your addess".

  • -3

My local JB Hifi have a Sony 7.2 "Muteki" system for $698 - superceded model (price of current model is $1298). IMO, this is better value than a 5.0 speaker system without an amp.

    • If you prefer quantity over quality maybe.
