  • How does it compare to normal Embody?

    • +1

some people said it's not even Herman Miller quality, but some reviews said it's a good chair with a decent price, I am confused too.

    • It has a "G" logo on the seat, a material loop on the back and shiny wheels and height adjust buttons?

    • Slightly thicker cushion and the logo

    • Apparently the gaming version has an extra layer of foam in the backrest, and is more comfortable according to the BTOD youtube channel:
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKxTZM33HXE

That goes against the reddit thread 'Heaps for Cheaps' linked below though… So YMMV.

It's ridiculously expensive for something not easily demoed though, and the lack of a return/change of mind policy is a bit scary.

The vantum looks the coolest. It looks like a quality gaming chair.
    https://livingedge.com.au/shop-all-gaming/herman_miller-vant…

The cosm looks nice, but everyone that has had one says it's best as a casual chair for places where multiple may use it, but not a daily driver.

There's a good write-up of the Embody differences on this reddit post from a single user that purchased and used it, but he was very specific:

Off the topic a bit, for whoever trying to get the Embody, it is worth noting that dust will easily get into the interlayer at the seat and upright support. It is quite difficult to clean everything out.

  • +1

The base Embody had another price hike in June. They still haven't found their price ceiling.
Note sure why this is listed cheaper than the base model, it has been the other way round previously.

  • +9

Herman Miller's new price is so off the chart, it is crazy comparing to what they were going for 12-18mths ago

      • +18

It's all about making money, because that chair is not worth $2500.

      • +4

I don't think this is it. Although I love my Embody, I was really disappointed by how plasticy/cheap it felt and the plastic components can creek. I have no doubt it'll outlive any other office chair but it doesn't have a premium feel.

      • +7

I mean, it's basically the same product as 12–18 months ago - so it has nothing to do with quality, it's just demand/supply and/or profit maximisation.

      • -6

Quality -> Demand -> Drives price up, it is that simple. Which part of this equation did we miss resulted in me getting neg?

        • +2

You've been brainwashed, it's that simple.

@Magik: I have to say, that I've absolutely loved having my Herman Miller. For me, and this is a personal opinion, but I am extremely happy with the investment I made. Now, with that said, I paid $1500 brand new at the end of 2021 so not as crazy as $2500. However, the Embody and the Aeron are still considered to be considered among the best.

        • +1

That's definitely not the main contributor to recent price increases.

To be clear, I'm also not arguing against the quality offered - I've bought a Herman Miller Mirra, a Steelcase Leap and a Ergohuman Plus Elite in the past.

    • Check out ex-Gov clearance stores etc. Found plenty of perfect HM Mirras for under 150 before.

This or a Typhoon Bathurst from Officeworks?

    • +2

You can buy 15 Bathursts from Officeworks. That'll easily last you 15 years.

The Logitech gamer branding is really off-putting. Glad they had enough self control to not include RGB lighting

  • +1

    thats a lot of JÄRVFJÄLLETs

Literally purchased and picked up my Aeron yesterday!

    • +1

      That was the perfect choice.

    • +1

If you don't mind me asking.
Where did you buy it from and how much did it cost you?
I am looking to buy one, but wait times looks crazy (~8-12 weeks).

      • +1

2.5K got it from Estilo Commercial Pty Ltd in the CBD and they had it at the store brand new so took it with me

  • +1

If you have the money, then do also checkout Steelcase Gesture with headrest. It goes on sale sometimes

  • 3K for an HM?

    TIL my Aeron is cheap.

WTF, just checked the current Aeron prices. They're also 3K. What the (profanity) (profanity) happened to office chair pricing?

    • -1

      The quality went up.

      • +1

If by quality you mean profits then you're right.

They've been making aerons for 20 years, even with the update a few years back it's very similar to the old design - they're making huge profits on it

  • +1

This is nearly the cost of my rig. Would wanna be a bloody comfy gaming chair lol

    • To be fair, somebody would get at least three times the use out of a good chair than a single gaming PC.

  • This is true, considering how often some people upgrade their rigs. I go through more chairs than rigs due to a back problem. Been thinking about investing in a very good chair, but this is out of my range at the moment.

    • +2

If you've got back problems, it really sounds like the money is better spent on a chair (or standing desk?) than upgrading a computer.

  • +1

No deal, I found more expensive one.

The embody with a $1000 price hike from 2 years ago.
I bought my Sayl for $600 during that same efoy sale at living edge. Even thats over $1000 now
I should have pulleed the triigger on the embody back then. Sayl is comfortable enough tho, for someone who gets lower back pain from normal chairs.

    • +2

Thought I was losing my mind, I bought it back then and had to think if I got it at this new price.
      Crazy hike

  • +3

Do not buy the Vantum, it's Ikea quality.

  • +1

    I'd avoid these guys.

I got a Mirra 2 from them and after about a year one of the arm rests broke. I couldn't even get them to reply to my emails about fixing it.
