Not the best price, but been on the lookout and first time it's been under $500 for a bit.

  • i think they had this at 50% off when it was $599 earlier this year. i hesitated because it was an ugly red/maroon colour that i didn't like. then i decided to purchase it, and gone in a flash.

Yeah picked up a maroon. They didn’t last long.

Insanely good machine for the money if you don’t mind a little modding. Made even better by the gagguino project if you are handy like that.

I am so happy that I live nowhere near that Costco, because I would blow so much time with this project. It looks amazing.

I am so happy that I live nowhere near that Costco

Do you want me to ship it to you? ;)

        • +2

Don't even temp me with a joke :)

That project is at the edge of what I could pull off. All the bits are easy to source, I've built 3D printers so have the electro/mechanical experience, but messing with high temperatures and pressures would be a first.

I can easily imagine this turning into a year long mess on a desk somewhere. Having kids really gets rid of spare time for fun projects. Very, very cool idea.

Bought the coffee machine for the project and now am a full blown coffee addict who has spent $$$$ on beans and accessories. 10/10 don’t recommend.

        • Weirdly, I read your non-recommendation and as a ringing endorsement. I already own a coffee machine and now I want to make one of these.

    • +5

I hate you. I have no time for this, yet I can’t un-see it.

      • Haha! It’s a cool project if you want to get into profiling etc.

So, from project website you need the kit which is about USD$99 plus shipping and then the 3D print items, yeah? Need to check which ones are required for best finish / tidy look so I can cost the lot.

        • Yeah it gets a bit expensive if you want the cleanest simplest install with the custom PCB. The alternative is the lego install where you buy all the parts separately from Aliexpress. You’ll save about $100 but spend a lot more time waiting for parts, scratching your head and soldering.

    • I didn't think I needed a new coffee machine till I saw this

    • The Gagguino is amazing don’t get me wrong, but the machine is also a great machine when used stock. It just happens to have a vibrant online modding community.

That said, I installed a pid, shot timer and preinfusion in mine and also lowered the brew pressure ha ha.

  • This or a rancilio Silva??

    • +2

From memory when I looked into it, Silvia is slightly better due to a bigger boiler with better metal and therefore better steam, but largely negligible difference. I have a silova and super happy but I think is be equally happy with a Gaggia classic

    • +1

Silvia if the same price. But they aren't the same price.

    • Silvia is better but more expensive. Feature wise I think they’re about the same.

    • +1

If you are going to spend Silva money just buy a BDB

      • BDB has good functionality for the money but the drawback is that it’s fuggly and cheap looking and will need replacing. The Silvia is the opposite.

    • Silvia is a great machine but exy for the minimal feature set. Gaggia better value and makes cracking espresso if you know what you’re doing. Modding will get the best out of it but not for everyone.

    Available in other stores too??

    • +1

Yes. 2 left at Perth Airport store.

I know Italian styling can be classic and timeless but this machine is firmly in the 1970's trash for me. It's (profanity) ugly.

    • Yeah, I really want this, but better half won't let me as it looks "fugly", apparently.

  • Is this an old or new machine? Here’s the differences

    • Comment elsewhere say 2019

Looks like the boxed wine I buy for $16 for 5L.

    Better than Bambino Plus?

Just bought one so. Maybe I should return and buy this?

    • +3

Bambino plus is probably the better machine!

    • +1

All the features that the Bambino has, I'd keep the Bambino over this.

      • +1

I was coming here specifically say that I might actually get the bambino plus over this for the majority of users.

        • +1

          Thanks all!

    • Been using mine for 18 months, it's fantastic for the price.

  • Amazing price. I would note that Gaggia recently released an update to this model, so I assume this would be the old model. The new one is called the Gaggia Classic Evo. So it’s probably reduced for that reason.

    • Zoom in on photo, sticker says 2019.
And, those boxes are pretty banged up so maybe they're the last flush from the warehouse.

  • Is this still available in Ringwood?

  • 7 means clearance
