I can vouch for this brand. I’ve always found it to be really good quality.

  • Black semi gloss sold out :/

    • Yeah white semi-gloss is the only one discounted anyway

      • That's a shame😁

    • Semigloss black was backorder a while ago. Got some though. Now OOS.

      • I have heard this does really well on a black pair of leather shoes. Do you have any experience with it this way?

Applied 2 coats of clear to an outdoor aluminum furniture set with steel fixings. Has mostly come off due to exposure to the sun. Steel nuts and bolts began rusting within 12 months despite being underneath where they're shielded from the elements.

What prep did you do before painting?
      Was the furniture new?

      • Brand new.

    • +5

You need to sand the aluminum then use etch primer before applying this.

      • The aluminum was pre-painted (hence using a clear coat sealer). Likewise the fixings were pre-painted.

    • You can't just spray this only anything.you have to prep the surface.

A 30 second google would have told you.

All paint and sealant products say the same thing - boatloads of prep is required. Yet in practice most indoor and outdoor paint and sealant products adhere fine without any prep, provided the surface is somewhat clean. I've sprayed over faded roof vents that weren't even properly clean and the paint is still there years later. I've even painted virgin aluminium and years later the paint looks mint. And how many people sand their walls and doors between coats of paint, or even use a primer for that matter?

Yes I should have followed the instructions, but it's still uncommon for a product to perform so poorly in the world of paints and sealants when not doing so, at least in my experience. The items were brand new, clean, and pre-painted. I wasn't applying it to virgin, dirty or greasey metal.

Just sharing so others don't end up with my results.

      • Can a 30 second Google teach me how to be polite?

    • Ooo interesting. What state u in?

  • Tried to buy and send to 2 different addresses says not allowed :/

    • +2

Didn’t work for my primary address but my worked for my mum’s address she’s closer to airport. Something to do with aerosol cans.

rust- oleum is a brand name , and they make lots of different products, some with zinc, some epoxy, some etchants, etc. all the way to just plain paint. need to make sure you get the right product for your project from their range, as just spaying paint onto rust you are dependent on just stopping air and water getting to steel and stooping corrosion.

grabbed a couple of cans as i need to paint white metal gate BUT i still need to sand back and prep with zinc primer.

  • Is "Gloss" more shiny than "gloss"? :-)

  • Obviously not the white one but can i use these underneath 4x4 to prevent rust before driving on the beach?

    • +1

No. Not even if it was black. You would ruin the underside of your vehicle.

      • Thanks for the reply. Why would it ruin it? And is there another product for cars? Or simply washing the car thoroughly (even if a few days later) is sufficient?

        • +1

Yes, there are better products out there for inhibiting rust underneath vehicles.

The better products are like a thick type of matt black tar paint that you can get in auto shops

for this purpose, or just pots to brush on.

if you don’t have rust already then it would, just covering rust, the rust will probably continue to expand.

      • You mean the rust would continue to expand underneath the surface (into the chassis), even if the visible rust is fully painted over (if not removing rust first)?

        • +1

That's sounds funny, rust is not rot.. it is oxidation after all.. so I think it should not spread..

  • For painted car surfaces e.g bonnet, or just raw unpainted or primed metal parts?

    • +1

I believe this was meant as a reply to my question.. it is for the underbody that might get wet with salt water..

  • How do i get it delivered? it says my address isnt allowed

  • +2

No returns as it is a hazardous material. I also cancelled before dispatch but Amazon didn't allow cancellations and delivered anyway. So order only if you know you need it (I preemptively ordered but the can I was using covered 3 metal bars and 4 brackets, 3 coats). Also wear a paint mask as the stuff stinks and makes you dizzy and nauseous if in an enclosed environment

    • …unless that's the actual intended purpose
