Sorry to be that guy, but is the standard price after release ?

    • +1

It's a decent and fair question, I actually don't know

      • +8

it is. This price is RRP.

        • +6

So this is not really a deal?

          • +7

@neurofunky: the price is rrp for the headset + controllers.

You get a game worth $89.99 and if you get the 512gb model you get 6 months of the plus sub that would normally cost around $72 (I think its $12 a month)

The game is a temporary bonus offer.

            • +1

@ihuntbargains: I mean the game that came with it is just what it is, even though it’s for a limited time likely there will be other product bundled with it after the ‘preorder’..

Hate to be that guy but I think I’ll downvote the post. We don’t need to see ads reposted on ozbargain. If I want to see that I’ll just go for tech news.

          • +1

@neurofunky: This is a bargain compared to the Apple Vision Pro, but yea it’s not a deal of any sort.

          • -2

            @neurofunky: no deal

  • +10

This is the RRP, all that is different is the game is free if bought the headset by January 27, 2024 and the trial with 512GB

    • +1

Are you referring to the Meta Quest+ subscription trial?

Get two handpicked titles every month. Included with purchase of 512 GB model.

  • +21

Just a thought : How is is this in any way suitable for aus bargain. Are we going to start posting every kickstarter early access deal now? I dont regard this as a news site. I have sites for that.

    This is just…..what it costs.

    • +50

Comparing a multi-billion dollar companies reputable products to a kickstarter is a bit absurd.
While I agree it's not all that great of a deal, you do get a free game (Asgards Wrath 2) and you also receive 6 months of meta quest+ subscription, which gives you 2 free games a month.

You aren't exactly a seasoned bargain poster yourself..with a grand total of ZERO (0) posted bargains.

      • +5

        Oh burn

        • +16

          Oh boy, OzBurngain

      • -3

Ah yes, just what a multi billion dollar company needed. Free advertising of the checks notes base retail pricing being offered to everyone, equally, globally, at launch.

Thats like saying "marvel avengers movie 78 is out next week and the ticket price is x, and everyone gets popcorn". Ok. Great news. Status quo. Not a bargain.

Do you think the majority of any public social medias users actually have an account?

And yes. Pass that salt, please. I hunger.

        • +9

Free advertising of the checks notes base retail pricing being offered to everyone, equally, globally, at launch.

Love that, you've ignored the free game you get with it and the free 6 month subscription trial that gets you 2 free games a month with the 512gb model, twice now.

"marvel avengers movie 78 is out next week and the ticket price is x, and everyone gets popcorn".

Sounds like a bargain to me. Considering that popcorn often costs as much as the ticket.

No-ones salty here except you mate. Get your insults out of 2013 please.

          • +3

@ihuntbargains: So what? If the base package included headphones at launch, as standard, they arent "free headphones", theyre the base package. Am i taking crazy pills?

And a trial you end up paying for isnt a value add if you had no intention of buying it before. Its marketing.

            • +6

@Ademos: Except the game isn't included as standard. It's only for a limited time.
And the sub is still a free sub. People post deals of discounted PAID subs, so why the (profanity) wouldn't FREE periods of a sub count?

No shit its marketing, it's ALWAYS marketing, doesn't mean it's not a deal.

          • -2

@ihuntbargains: They literally set the price of the unit higher, so they can get you with crap thrown in for "free". Oldest marketing trick in the book.

        • +7

Thats like saying "marvel avengers movie 78 is out next week and the ticket price is x, and everyone gets popcorn". Ok. Great news. Status quo. Not a bargain

I'd do that deal, popcorn is normally $12-20 at the cinemas. If I can see it somewhere that provides free popcorn then I would definitely consider that a deal.

I assume the game giveaway promotion (Asgard’s Wrath 2) normally costs money?

        • +3

if free popcorn with a movie ticket is not a bargain then my expectations must be too low

      • +2

        🔥

      • +2

You aren't exactly a seasoned bargain poster yourself..with a grand total of ZERO (0) posted bargains.

Says the guy with his legendary 10 posts

        • +3

Yes, but he’s not the one bitching about bargain post quality

          • +1

@janxspirit: You don't need to be a soccer coach to look at an under 6s soccer game and tell that it's shit.

      • +3

Its not a deal at all, its just what is available.

        • +3

You get a game that is normally $89.99 AUD and won't be given away with the headset after a specific date (I believe jan 24th)
It's a deal, regardless of how much you or others try to claim it isn't.
It's not an amazing deal, but its still a deal.

        • If this was something from Nintendo, people would be going ga ga over the "deal".

      • +8

Never understood this whole method of attack by saying someone hasnt posted bargains or only posted … set amount of bargains. There are many ways to contribute besides posting bargains and there are people who copy and paste free ebooks, free apps that are just junk mainly from one site top another to get their bargain posts up. Is that really worthwhile for most people?

Then there are people who provide support or help through the comments section or forums. There are also people who add bargains or deals in the comments sections of other bargains if they feel its related or an option to go down that route for some people.

    • +2

I find the backlash hilarious given the last 3 weeks have been nothing but ps5 ‘deals’

      • +1

That and "if you take these gift cards and apply them to literally any product on these 49 retailers sites, look, every single product is worthy of a discrete and individual bargain post".

Am….am I being too salty? Haha.

      • +1

The PS5 deal is interesting because it comes from Sony so it applies to a ton of retailers. We should definitely combine them into one deal post though as I've seen several different ones. Stacking it with the JB giftcard was the best deal I've seen for the PS5 disc edition though.

    • lol were you here when the PS5 deals were happening? That was simply "it's in stock"

    • Apparently "movie x is not on streaming service y" is a 'bargain' now, so this more than qualifies.

    • How is is this in any way suitable for aus bargain

That ship has sailed long time ago… It is what it is and just move on :)

  • +10

Having owned and used the Quest 2 extensively, I would skip this headset, unless if you're really, really curious about VR.

For me personally, I won't be buying another VR headset until they offer one with a vastly improved FOV. Otherwise I don't see the point.

    • Yeah, seems like pico 5 various models are the better option if you really want to buy a portable vr headset in the near future.
Granted they aren't releasing until early 2024

    • Agreed, we have two quest 2 in our household and they are still a blast.

      • +1

        so you dont agree?

    • +1

The FOV is quite comparable. Yet, with the increased resolution, I believe this version eliminates the 'sweet spot' issue that was a nuisance with the Quest 2. Despite that, I truly enjoyed the Quest 2, and although I haven't used the Quest 3, it could be still an excellent intro for those new to VR

    • +3

New lenses, an adjustable focus ring for PD, increased resolution and tincy bit lighter, this is enough to me to warrant a change, sick of blurry images all the time.

Do wish they could go OLED and higher resolution, they do with phones so is possible.

ill be selling the quest 2 though to pay for this

    • +2

I have the Quest 1, surely this is worth the upgrade, just not worth the price

      • I've got a Quest 1 too and after having gone through all the decent titles like Alyx, Beatsaber, Superhot, flight/driving sims, Tiltbrush etc. I don't see what an upgrade to a new headset is going to give me. There just needs to be more titles to warrant upgrading my gear to experience them.

    • +1

Quest 3 as an improved 110 degrees FOV vs 96 degrees on the Quest 2, vs 105 degrees on the Pico 4 headset. Looks like it has the biggest FOV of current headsets.

      • +2

Not even close to the highest FOV, that would be the primax headsets but they have their own issues and are in a different price tier

    • +1

probably could wait for a review

      • +4

There's already quite a few reviews on YouTube, but not in-depth, from what I saw FOV is 'basically the same as Q2', and there seems to be an embargo on 'through the lens' or actual game reviews still, they might take some time

    • I own a Quest 2, used to have Reverb G2 also, pretty much solely for PCVR, and have been waiting for this and pre-purchased Quest 3, my main reasons are WiFi 6E and the lenses (better weight balance, sweet spot, peripheral and clarity) - the processor might also give me better streaming, not sure if there's better codec support in the chipset as well
I don't think I've really considered FOV that important, maybe because I wear glassed and everyday life is a limited FOV too :D

      • With it having wifi 6E (i thought we were up to 7? Or has only the standard been released? Not the actual product?)

Can you now run full resolution PCVR wirelessly to the headset if you have a wifi 6e router?

        • Nah nothing specific like that.
Quest 2 has this thing called air link that lets you do PCVR wirelessly.

It work's well but not as well as high bandwidth wired connection(10m USB C 3.1 cable) . Wireless PCVR uses data compression which puts extra load on your PC and lowers FPS / quality somewhat. (AMD GPU's don't do this compression as well as NVIDIA so best to use a cable if you have AMD GPU for PCVR if your serious about quality)

The wifi 6E thing isnt a big deal it just means you should get a faster connection speed between the headset and your router so that means less compression is needed so PCVR qaulity and FPS will be improved also less load on the PC doing compression. Not sure how much of a big deal this will be though as I am able to get a very high data rate just on my old quest 2 and old stock router wifi just fine using 5GHz wifi. I did have to move the router to be 2 m away (same room. from where we use the headset to do this though. If you go further away the connection speed drops and wireless PCVR doesnt work well at all.

          Hope this answers your issue.

    • I have a HP G2, im in the same boat. Im waiting for something miles clearer though this is tempting as I frigging hate cables

    • i do have an rtx2070 super should I get a different VR headset that utilises the power from that hardware?

    • Agreed FOV made me return my Quest 2. I want VR to be immersive not like I'm looking at a screen close up.

      • what they did to those used returned headsets ?

    • Yes, FOV is the one holding back. And there aren't any new great games like alyx.

  • +15

Apologies if this post wasn't appropriate for the platform. I was genuinely excited about the release and wanted to share. Let me know if I should take it down

    • +6

I think even though it’s RRP, it constitutes as a deal because of the bonus game/subscription

    • +3

It's fine. If people don't think it's a bargain, they can neg the deal. People sometimes forget how this site works.

      • or lack of

    • Don’t worry and thanks for sharing. People can have different opinions and neg if they don’t like.

    • +1

I was super excited too ! and its nice to read what everyone thinks, you sir are a legend !

    • It's a deal… Just a pretty crappy one. Like how you buy a 2k GPU and, oh look, you also get a $90 game!

  • +1

Xbox Cloud Gaming comes to Meta Quest 3 with Mixed Reality this December:

    https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-cloud-gaming-comes-to…

Not sure if available in Australia at launch though?

    • Only on q3?

      • As far as has been announced, yes only on quest 3

  • Does anyone know if Asgards Wrath 2 comes included if you purchase the headset via Amazon? Not sure if it’s a direct purchase from Meta only deal

      • Oh yep, I just refreshed and they updated the listing! Previously it wasn’t there, and I was unsure. I think I’ll go with Amazon for shipping and gift card bonuses

  • I’ll preorder

  • Can someone help me with this. New to VR but recently went to an escape room VR and enjoyed it much:

Would a VR 2 or 3 be similar to that experience.
Can both be used as multiplayer…but given V3 is twice as as expensive..would it be better for me to get two VR2 …as VR3 doesn't seem that much better?
Or wait for the PICO next yr hmm?
Can I install many games on the 128gb version? Or better to go with 512gb because of the 2 free games- but I guess does anyone know how good these are?

    • You might find a lot of second hand Q2's for sale soon.
Also I believe a Q3 light version is coming out too, supposed to be on the cheap side, but no MR.

    • +1

From what I've seen, the new headsets should give you a vibe similar, if not better, to your VR Escape room experience. Hard to say for sure without knowing what gear they had there. The escape room may have more physical floor space though.

Looking at how things go, if you're not rushing to buy, might be worth holding off a bit. The buzz is that after the PICO launch around Q2 next year, we might see some cool deals pop up. Plus, wouldn't be surprised if the Metaquest 3 gets a price cut by then, unless there are some stock issues or something.

If I had to choose (And I did, I preordered Metaquest 3, sold my Metaquest 2 recently), I'd pick one solid Metaquest 3 over two Metaquest 2's any day. And as deals roll in, you can think about grabbing another MQ3.

Regarding multiplayer, both Quest 2 and 3 run on the same platform and they sync up well with PCs. If you're going wireless and want some crisp graphics (assuming your PC's up for it), I recommend purchasing a dedicated WiFi 6 router for AirLink with no other devices connected to that router. I've noticed there aren't many local (same room) multiplayer games right now, but that might change as time goes on.

Storage-wise, if you're mainly hooking up to your PC, 128gb should do the trick. But if you're only using headset standalone and stacking up on games, you might want to go for the 512gb. Even if you go the 128gb, you can always make space by uninstalling a game or two when needed.

      • Thanks how much gb is one game usually and how much roughly are these free games each?

        • +1

It varies, 1gb, 2gb, 4gb, some even 12gb. I guess you could average it and say 30 games on a 128gb and 120 or so on the 128gb.

  • +3

Waiting to see if it will be hackable like the quest 2

    • Hackable how? Links?

Sideloading and 3rd party launchers are a thing, but not jailbroken to the extent that would be considered a 'hack'

  • These are still LCD aren’t they? I’ll be waiting for OLED screens as LCD’s always look grey in dark scenes.

    • Probably wont be seeing OLED in lower budget portable vr for another two or more years.
OLED seems to be only really entering the "semi-budget" pcvr now.

    • The VR community seems to be sure that OLED with Foveated rendering and perfect lenses is months away. They've also been saying that for 7 years. I've had a few headsets and keep putting it all back away for a couple years at a time. Last had a G2 with a 2080ti. Clarity was there, but it was like looking through two toilet roll tubes, no immersion.

      • Weirdly enough OLED with foveated rendering is already available on the PSVR 2. And it's pretty cheap too. Obviously it's not exactly relevant to PCVR but I just find it strange that the PC hardware is so far behind.

        • Foveated rendering + DLSS type tech is going to change it all, and it's so close. So close.

I'll probably cry the first time I put on a proper OLED headset and sit in a plane / car cockpit, at "night", and you're just there. Been waiting on it my whole life.

Think it'll be 2025 before the next gen Nvidia cards come out that could handle a proper headset though. 2080ti's didn't cut it.

Just a bit more FOV. Just a bit more resolution. A card juuuuust a bit more that can hack it. We're that close.

  • +1

Fantastic. Pre-ordered on Amazon. Just remember that if you buy from Oculus, it's an AWFUL shipping experience. Happens EVERY time.

  • +1

Lack of 256GB model seems odd, would be a nice sweet spot in price.

Speaking of price, a little too much considering the Quest 2 is still a great little unit, even if the passthrough is infinitely better on the 3. I want a second headset for my partner, but will wait for deals. The sub is completely worthless to me, so it doesn't count as a deal.

  • -1

lol 120 Hz (experimental) still, RIP meta.
paid $400 for quest 2, this seems like a rip off.

  • +7

Barely an upgrade for steep price increase. Everyone is using mini oled and 4k plus screens and fb stuck it with 2.2k.

No deal here. The quest 2 is better for the price of like $350/400 you could get it for.

    • Who is doing wireless headsets with mini OLED and 4k+ screens that don't require a console/pc and cost 799 or less?

  • +1

So how important is storage for these? Likely anything that will ever go over the 128GB?

    • +1

For as long as the Quest 2 remains as cross platform with no dedicated Quest 3 apps, you are unlikely to use up 128gb unless you horde data for no reason. Apps are very small as they are Android games. You can also just plug in USB and re-upload from PC. I wouldn't waste money beyond the 128gb.

  • +1

Why is it so expensive? I thought this was meant to be a budget headset closer to $500?

Is it possible to use this 100% hooked up to a PC via the wire? I never plan to use the built in memory etc

    • The Quest 2 will continue to be sold alongside the Quest 3 for a while. If the Q3 was 500 then nobody would buy the Q2

      • +1

So best to wait till the Quest 2 vanishes and they have some sales?

        • It will take some time for the Q2 to vanish but I believe that Valve will also have its own competing product by then, and you'll have more options to consider.

Valve Deckard or something like that was the codename

          • @scrimshaw: Thanks for the info I wouldn't mind a cheaper Valve device. Ill stick with my ancient Lenovo Explorer for now I remember getting that for $199USD at launch lol. Wish MS had stuck with the platform as the value was so good.
