The Quest 3 is launching on October 10, 2023, but you can preorder it now from Meta’s website. The price is $799.99 for the 128GB model or $1049.99 for the 512GB model in Australia.

The Quest 3 is compatible with most of the Quest games and apps, as well as PC VR games via Link and Air Link. For more details, check out Meta’s page or some of the reviews and news articles that have been published online. • @plmko: don't know what you mean, quest 2 also has 2 controllers and the price was USD $100 less for the 256GB model.

          • @Hatter: Id prefer the quest 3 to a new phone.

        • 399 the quest 2 sold for in the early days. at the most 479

  • Disappointed that there's no eye tracking, hopefully their fake fovea cuts it.

Will need to come down $200 before people start taking it seriously.

    • even the PSRV 2 has eye tracking for 800 bucks :D

      • That is being sold at a loss, and it's also completely bereft of some sensor and passthrough tech, a battery, and its own SoC.

Meta probably ran behind making its own in-house tracking, and the only alternative is clearly asking too much right now.

        • yeah I was expecting to get the same controllers at the quest pro, or something close to them with the built in cameras in the quest 3, I only say this becaus I know how good they are. The new quest 3 controllers don't look much better than the quest 2 ones.

          • @kungfuman: They're definitely new though, and I'd imagine they bridge the gap well.

            • @jasswolf: I have the quest 2 currently with all the accessories I like, I think rather than getting a quest 3 I would rather just upgrade the controllers to the pro controllers

Prefer to wait for black friday, not far off

Quest 2 has a history of good black friday deals on Amazon e.g. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/664714
Which could be combined with referral credit, and Amazon cashback

Referrals seem to only be saying Quest 2 at the moment https://www.oculus.com/quest-2-referrals/
Interested to see if they open that up after a while or not, and wait for a few more reviews

    • yeah I would definatlly wait and see how much this drops.

    • …but that deal (2021) was a year after initial Oculus 2 was released in 2020. I can’t see this dropping by much if at all this Black Friday seeing as it is only new. Hope I am wrong.

  • yeah looks like they dont' have the elite strap with battery built in I get currently 4 to 5 hours of battery with my quest 2 with elite strap with battery. So its not appealing to me to have only 3 hours of battery.

  • Thought I'd ask here rather than going down a google rabbit hole since you guys seem to be well versed in VR.

I'm looking to get back into MS flight simulator and thought about getting a VR headset mainly so I can look around easier. Possibly thinking of also getting a Logitech G29 and get into a driving simulator too (which PC driving games support VR?).

As I won't be 'fully' gaming and trying out a bunch of titles etc, and my VR use will be limited to basic use like with the 2 games as above, should I invest in the newer Quest 3 if I won't take full advantage like other hardcore VR gamers would?

In regards to say the Quest 2 vs 3, how big a difference would the image quality be between the two? The last time I used VR was with the GearVR and I could see the pixels lol

    • +1

Quest 3 will have better wireless support if your router supports it, better comfort and 40% smaller size resulting in better weight distribution, better FOV (15% wider view), better blacks, higher resolution (2,064 x 2,208 pixels per eye vs1,832 x 1920 pixels per eye, fully variable IPD (important if your eye IPD doesn't falls between the 3 settings of the Quest 2), faster refresh rate but I'm not sure if that will apply to PC gaming. Pancake lenses vs the older Fresnel lenses also better for visual clarity and larger sweet spot. If you wear glasses, I think the lenses can now be adjusted in and out to make room.

Stuff like the full colour passthrough camera for AR gaming and processor speed bump is probably not going to be that important to you unless PC games somehow manage to access those features at some later stage (not out of the question I guess). Although pass through could be handy for you if you just want to have a quick look around your environment without having to take off the headset, Quest 2 also has black and white low res pass through though.

      • Where did you read about the better blacks? I'm trying to decide between Q3 and Pro, but the main thing I'm concerned about with the Q3 are the black levels.

    • I've used my Quest 2 with MS Flight Sim wirelessly and it's a great experience. Will be upgrading to the Quest 3 for better visuals. Be warned - need a chonky PC setup to get good frames.

    • +1

You're sort of in the same situation as me. I want a pcvr headset mostly for sims.

Unfortunately there are problems with all options:

Index - probably best option but Valve has abandoned Australia and pricing was/is ridiculous. Lighthouse sensors are massively inconvenient.

Reverb G2 - headset sounds pretty good, controllers not, overpriced/unavailable, old

PSVR2 - probably the best mass market hardware but not PC compatible and Sony apparently doesn't care about having good sims on the PS5 other than one decent driving game

Quest 2/3 - good value but crap FOV, too focused on wireless, no high quality tethered option, have to associate with meta

Misc Chinese brands - none big enough to guarantee a good community/long term support/spare parts

I'm holding out for the Index 2 at this stage.

    • Check out the bigscreen Beyond if you mainly want flight sim, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyz-G27bfEQ

  • +2

Wait for PICO 5, meta will drop the price like a bag of bricks

  • Wake me if Alyx 2 comes out… I haven't touched the Oculus since I finished that game… 2-3yrs ago.

  • Pre ordered one from Amazon despite only just recently getting a quest 2. The airlink works so well for iracing and other pcvr games, no noticeable latency and standalone works great for exercise games.
I personally think the airlink is underated. The freedom of having no cables with pcvr is just so good.

The increased fov and pancake lenses will be amazing.

(Going to return the quest 2 under the 30 days return policy Amazon has)

Given how the Aussie dollar has performed last couple of years was expecting this one to be at least around the AUD $850-$900 range so not a bad deal for mine with the free game and all. Also if you sign up with a referral that should give you $50 in store credits plus you can use Amazon GCs to shave a few $$ off as well.

    Quest 3 prices:

    US $500 = $785 AUD
    UK £480 = $915 AUD
    Europe €550 = $907 AUD

    • +2

Don't forget the us price doesn't include sales tax. So with sales tax we are probably getting a better price then them.

    • +2

Referral fine print says "purchase Meta Quest 2 headset"
      https://www.meta.com/en-gb/help/orders-and-returns/articles/…

and from reddit, referrals don't work for Quest Pro. So may not work for Quest 3 either, at least not initially.

One of the reasons I think pre-ordering is jumping the gun, better to wait and see. If there is a slow uptake they may update the referral system to include it.

      • Ah ok cheers for the info wasn't aware of the actual device being a factor when it came to referrals.

  • pre-ordered.

  • Does anyone with gaming motion sickness have experience with VR? I get pretty sick even playing FPS’s, I don’t know how this is going to be

    • +3

The only game I had issues with is wolfeinstein.

Everything else was totally fine. If you get sick easy consider using teleport locomotion.

    • +2

Yeah it's very common, and depends on the game as well. I'm hoping the increased resolution, pancake lens and increased refresh rate will help reduce motion sickness even further. You can also take ginger tablets to help

      • Thanks for the tips, don't want to fork out close to 1k just to get dizzy

        • +3

Main thing is to switch off if you start feeling at all queasy and not be tempted to play through it.
Over time you get used to it. It's only certain games and every person is different.

Wolfenstein was the only game that got me and perhaps due to frame rate? I was fine after a few days of 45mins play each day.

        • +1

If you want to borrow my Quest 2 to try it out, just drop me a line.

    • +2

Standing up when playing and moving your body rather than using controller when looking around can also help.

      • +1

Yep… for roller coaster VR sims in particular, if you lean into the corners the and lean back/forward in the loops then motion sickness is greatly reduced.

        • What……while standing up :-)
Mind you, that's my favourite way to ride the roller coaster and get my friends to do it that way first time around. Hilarious watching them.

    • With Skyrim it was insta puke for me. Had to get Natural Locomotion to combat that.

      • Skyrim is my worst nightmare, I played it for max 20 hours and it was painfully dizzy

  • +1

    Not a deal

  • It's just pre order. not a deal.

  • so to get all the stuff I want to replace the current quest 2 setup I have I would need to buy

    Quest 3 128gb - 799
elite scrap with battery - 219
Meta Quest 3 silicone facial interface - 69

for a grand total of 1087 bucks.

not sure how much my quest 2 would sell for with VR cover interface and elite strap with battery lol.
when I bought it back then it was 399 + 199 + 50 so about 650 bucks total for the quest 2 and accessories.

I had no idea the quest 2 is now 500 bucks!! wow its gone up.

  • Had quest2. Used it for a few months and never touched again. The weight of the headset is an issue plus the graphics is not that good.

    • +1

Quest 2 is a good as ur going to get, u need a 3rd party headstrap for the weight.
and PC VR games for the graphics, u and only do so much with a mobile GPU.

    • Quest 3 with a good headstrap will definitely help in overcoming those issues

      • I believe the default headstrap isn't too bad on the OC3 compared to the OC2 which wasn't comfortable. Added to this, the OC3 being slimmer isn't as front heavy hence the main body doesn't protrude out so far thus more comfie?

        • Yeah I was wondering that, I even held out on purchasing the elite strap. I might purchase a KIWI headstrap when they have developed it for Quest 3 and it's available for purchase.

  • +1

Had both 128gb and 512gb on order at Amazon, and couldn't decide between them, so cancelled both. Cheers Meta for the too-little/too-much storage approach.

    • +3

Totally agree and it stopped me from even considering on at those prices. 256GB is the sweet spot I reckon. Stupid that they want $250 more for the extra 250GB. The $799 one should have been 256GB in this day and age. Games are getting larger in size with better spec devices.

    • If using Airlink with a PC, 128GB should suffice. For standalone use with many games, choose 512GB. Remember, 128GB still holds many games, and you can delete as needed.

      • I have the original OG Oculus branded quest 2 64gb and its has been so good for airlink and even light mobile gaming which I have very few to no games on lol.

      • Like many Oculus owners, I don't have a fancy gaming PC hence use the Oculus as standalone. Space isn’t always about just games, I record a lot of stuff which also uses it up. My 128gb is 80% full with half played games that I return to etc. Regardless, being a new device it just seems strange that they didn’t just have 256gb over 128gb.

  • i just realized that the elite strap with battery this time doesnt; come with the oculus case they bundled with the quest 2 back in the day, its now a separage item the quest 3 case.

  • +1

o wow I am shocked the preorders didn't sell out for the quest 3 :D I think Meta is shocked there isn't alot of demand for the quest 3 like the quest 2 was. They don't seem to understand it was all about the price being 400 bucks!! and not 800!!

  • Not a deal, the is RRP.

  • Why does this seem like its the same price as the Pro when you add all the accessories.

    PRO A$1,729
    - With better headstrap
    - Charging dock
    - Better Controllers
    - Better Screen (local dimming)
    - 4Gb more RAM
    - 256gb size
    - Face and Eye tracking

    Quest 3 ($1716)
    - $799 base 126gb
    - $219 for Elite Strap
    - $219 for Dock
    - $479 for Pro controllers

    • The Quest 3 has a more powerful CPU/GPU, higher resolution, a wider FOV, and better mixed reality. While the Pro does have its benefits, overall, the Quest 3 stands out as a superior headset. You are better off with a Quest 3 and purchasing those accessories separately, and potentially cheaper from premium brands like KIWI design.

      • true, but the Pro was terrible value over the quest 2, just disappointed of the price and specs a full 1yr after the pro.

  • +1

Just got a shipped email from amazon. Arriving tomorrow.

    • yep Amazon suck at preorders they always have they ship it always on the day its released they never ship it before, so you get it on the day.

  • Have they droped the price yet? :D

  • Can't guarantee that it's going to work but if anyone wants to take a punt I was able to stack all 4 codes from here whilst purchasing a $1000 Amazon gift card this morning and received $100 in Amazon credits a bit later (credit to xlynx).

So applied the $100 credit and purchased the Quest 3 for $700.

    • +1

well done. that may have got me off the fence if i saw it before expiry.

      • Yeah wasn't planning on purchasing one tbh but thought why not haha. The code stacking might have still worked but I think it was posted as a deal here and you know how that goes.

        • +1

there are reports referral credit works for Q3 even though the fine print says only Q2
          https://reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/s/5XVtvkrtYi

not sure if thats another mistake that will get fixed or not

          • +1

@toniyellow: Yeah I noticed that when you google Quest 3 referral it shows a link from Meta store mentioning the Quest 3.

Purchase your Meta Quest 2, Quest 3, or Quest Pro from any retailer. You and your friend who referred you will receive $30 in Meta Quest Store Credit once you …

However once you click on the link can't find that anywhere haha.

Now, how do I redeem Asgard Wrath 2?
Edit, nvm, moving around in the app has shown the Redeem button.

  • +1

first time quest user, any recommendation for apps and games.

    • +2

Comes down to what type of games you like. Here are some decent ones.
      - Pistol Whip
      - Puzzling Places.
      - Red Matter (and 2)
      - Resident Evil 4
      - Superhot VR
      - I Expect You To Die (& 2),
      - Ultra Wings 2
…………….the list goes on and on.

Classics and via Sidequest. Perhaps look at these once settled in and have included one link below to Sidequest!
      - Return to Castle Wolfenstein
      - Doom

I'd recommend that you just Google Oculus 2 games and check reviews out in advance to see what games are your cuppa!

FYI: Buying via VPN through Canada is a tad cheaper.

      • Is Quest+ cheaper in other country? Turkey?

    • +2

      My favourites
Active - Pistol Whip, Beat Saber
Escape Room / puzzle - I Expect You To Die series, Red Matter, and The Room VR

I received mine today, having ordered directly through Meta. Interestingly, I still got the complimentary game, Asgard's Wrath 2. They seem to have updated the offer to include "Asgard's Wrath 2 with any Quest 3 purchase." I remember earlier it was only for the 512mb versions. Loving the passthrough!!

Fired up Thrill of the fight, worked perfectly in passthrough

  • You can get referral $47 credit for Quest3.

Already activated your new Quest 2 but still want the store credit?

    • Factory reset the device or wipe it remotely by unlinking it here https://secure.oculus.com/my/devices/

    • Accept the referral from clicking above in REFERRAL LINKS section.

    • Re-activate the device by pairing it to your mobile oculus app that’s signed in with your Facebook account.

    • Can confirm this worked. Forgot to use a referral originally. Thanks!

  • I feel weighing up the costs, and the fact quest lacks eyetracking, and I have to buy all the accessories like the elitestrap wtih battery, a vr cover interface, and grips and such, the cost is more closer to a quest pro which has eye tracking longer battery and way better tracking overall, already comes iwth a good strap and is more powerful overall.

It almost seems better to just go a quest pro over a quest 3 but there a cons and there are pros quest 3 can do passthrough a lot better, and has a higher resolution and a higher field of view.

both have there pros and cons and if you sack them up it can be very hard to make that decision. On the bright side if your a noob that has never don't VR then you dont' know all this stuff and a quest 3 would be an easy choice out of the 2.

  • +1

Device referral for Quest 3 is now available. Both parties get AU$47 each.

  • ’m thinking of getting the quest 3 for daughters Xmas, been watching you tube vids and seems quest 3 is better all round apart from it’s price and worst part only 128gb and 512gb. Where are quest 2 had one in between.

It’s also mentioned these games can soon add up in gb and more and more games will get bigger more so the power of day quest 3.
People say you can delete them but once you delete them are they lost or stored somewhere to use again?
What are prices of games I have no idea? I believe there is some free games and ones to try but what is average costs?
Also I believe there is a subscription what does this cost per month or year?

I’m also lead to believe that if you have games pass on Xbox you can use this from September it seems there is an app third part that allows you to do it now but official one available december.
Does it work on Xbox one as don’t have the Xbox x.

It’s mentioned on here cheaper games with referral is this still active?

My daughter is 11 yrs old has has mentioned of a vr set in past recently and I’m tempted to get the quest 2 but the 3 has the edge by what I see and I think can’t remember what it’s called this other type of reality where game is within there own world.
The quest 2 is I believe 3 years old now but got very very popular during covid as being locked inside and lack of stocks of ps5 and Xbox x.
So the quest 2 was a big seller and they reckon it will be here for a few years yet.
Where as first one got killed off quickly due to the release of 2 so soon after and it’s popularity and otter reasons.

But I have compared the quest 3 vs 2 and on what’s I see quest 3 wins, me personally if got myself I always want the best so quest 3 would be my pick and more likely the 500gb edition.
But this ain’t for me and I’m sure the quest 2 has poor the reality where it’s within your own world ie surrounds, which i am sure would appeal to my daughter.
Sometimes it’s always better getting the new and best tech but price??

I’m hoping to see a deal on Black Friday for quest 2 and 3 your thoughts?

After seeing this myself I’m tempted to own one myself but not at this time, but it is something daughter has mentioned she would love and would be a great surprise, she talks about wanting silly stuff stuff I reckon she is getting to old for and stuff that will only clutter up her room.

But I feel she will love a be set but it is pricey.

  • I'm going to take advantage of there being experienced Quest users here in the comments!!!
I have been looking for a VR headset for the guided meditation app Soundself: A Technodelic

Would the quest 3 be complete overkill for something like this? Are there better options for people like me that just want to play what is basically an interactive video? Not interested in VR gaming with the hand tracking controllers and stuff, or even social apps like VR chat/Meta; but I don't know the market or what's available and compatible with my Steam library…

    • +2

Seems to have been designed for Oculus Rift - no longer sold but pop up on ebay or marketplace. There's one cheap on marketplace in Sydney at the moment, would be the most cost effective route to try.

I assume you already own the app or are comfortable finding a way to get it? Its delisted on Steam, and the Rift store listing also doesnt show it available to purchase.

Quest 3 would definitely be overkill and a big gamble for an app that looks abandoned.

If you buy a Rift or an older model oculus at least you can probably resell for a similar price that you paid if it doesn't work.

      • Yes I purchased the game on steam before they delisted… seems they've changed directions with the project and are offering packages for people to use hardware they're selling, or something.

Thank you though, really great info!
