Great price. I've got a 5600X and don't need the extra cores (and associated heat given I've got an ITX case) but anyone on a 2000 series who have been holding out should jump on this!

If the motherboard vrms can take it

      • B450 gaming pro carbon bebbeh!

  • Wow. Prices on Zen3 have droped heaps

  • This or second hand 5950x

    • +1

5950x will use less power and run cooler

      • Really good to know that

        • +1

According to Tom's Hardware, 5900X uses less power.

          Idle Power
          Stress Test

However, if you are considering those 2, I would probably choose 5950X. I don't think power consumption is a key factor when you are considering either one of the CPUs.

          • @netsurfer: That's when stressing all cores which would mean it would complete the work faster then go to idle meaning the end result of less power used.

      • 5950x will use less power

        What about performances?
I'll install a proper cooler anyways so 5950 or 5900X?

        • +2

5950X performs better of course. However, you need to make sure you have usages which benefit a lot from high core count (i.e. video rendering). Otherwise, it will be a FOMO purchase.

      • I think you mean 7950x will use less power?

    • depends on price and what cha gonna do with those extra four cores anyway? I think all games going forward will be built expecting 8 cores, playstation 4 and 5 and xbox 1 and ss sx all have 8, so having an extra 4 just for windoze and chrome and whatever else you got going on…

Amazon price matching Scorptec who have had this price for weeks

Anyone shopping Zen 3 should wait for the pre Black Friday sales as the real clearance deals will be happening this year

    Package Weight: 10.0 pounds

which is ~4.5kg. Packaging seems excessive for shipping a 79g CPU chip without a heatsink. Then again,

    ‎1 A batteries required

    which is hard to find.

    • +1

Amazon needs to put in some bricks to make it 4.5Kg.

  • This or 5800x3d?

    • Depends. Do you just game? Or do you need productivity performance?

      • Most demanding thing would be gaming, I don’t do any compiling etc,

        • +2

If you want to utilise existing AM4 setup and gaming is the top priority, then 5800X3D.

    • Similar question, for Counter-Strike 2 is the 5900X better because higher clock speed?
