  • Are they having financial problems?

    • +5

Yes. They have been posting annual losses after taking a huge hit during COVID.
$190m the company was worth, took out $300m in loans and its coming to bite them in the rear. Took 737s from Virgin under a clear image that they went under during admin.
$35m loss this year alone, with more and more financial obligations coming online each year. Rex has many 737 services, but load factors are poor, really poor.

And what does Rex does? Blames Qantas for "pillaging" new pilots into their on pilot cadetship program. Why? Because Rex only has a FO Salary at $78k p.a in comparison to Qantas Australia which is $120k p.a + allowances + extensive ST.

This new loyalty program is really below global average, especially for status.
    $1,500 spend to get a VA/QF "Silver" Equiv…
    $3,000 spend to get a VA/QF "Gold" Equiv…
$6,000 spend to get a VA/QF "Platinum" Equiv..

Virgin Australia can easily get Silver in $700, Gold in $1400 and Platinum in $2900 through MEL-OOL Business w/ DSC.
Qantas can easily get Silver in $1000, Gold for $1900 and Platinum for $3,400 through Trans-Tasman Business w/ DSC + AU Domestic Stop w/ International Sector

And only the top tier status holders can access their bottom quality tiered lounges, lacks international status partners and reward partners, lacks alliance recognition and lacks credit card reward offerings.
