Acer 31.5" WQHD LED Monitor EB321HQU 60hz 4Ms FreeSync $297 + Delivery ($0 to Metro/ in-Store/ C&C) @ Officeworks

This group is a bad influence on me, since seeing the price of the LG 31.5" Prime deal I went looking around and found this price for an Acer at $297!
Looks like a similar model at Harvey Norman is selling for $499.
Tempted, but keen to see what other people think because is only 60Hz and 4Ms a negative?

  • 2K, HDMI 1.4 (so better to assume no HDR).

Photos and displayspecifications.com indicate it is HDMI + D-Sub (VGA) + DisplayPort. Probably doesn't matter since most people don't use DVI nowadays.

  • At least it’s IPS

      • If it was the same product you'd have a point, but that's the 1080p version.

Not sure if it's inflation/pandemic/shortage/WFH took place or monitor prices just tend to go nowhere but there were definitely better deals for $300 in the past and i remember Viewsonic/AOC 32" 1440p IPS being this price over 5 years ago.

Note pixel density for 1440p over 32" is not that great if you're sitting too close to it as you can see each pixel clearly with blocky edges.

    • Are you sure? I paid $250 for a 24 inch 1080p monitor in 2020 and if you look at price charts monitors are one of the few things to actually go down

      • I paid $250 for a 24 inch 1080p monitor in 2020

Understandable. 2020 people paying $100 for a used webcam that worth $30 new.

… and if you look at price charts monitors are one of the few things to actually go down

        From 2020 pandemic prices, yes.

But when you scroll down to over 5 years ago …

        • i think the reason these arent that cheap is that they are neither fish nor fowl

they arent 4k so obviously the techbros dont want it but they are more expensive than FHD so the cheapskates and Xbox Series X owners arent interested

like who wants a 2k unit right now? bit of a hard sell

I own a 2k 32" LCD… i like it but i can see why heaps of people dont

right now the FHD 24 crowd is about $120 lol… so this i what the 14" CRT used to be… ie. basic standard

  • Nowhere near the specs of the other one you're comparing it to though. For a 4ms 60hz id say this is relatively normal price

    Colour Gamut - NTSC 72%
    so bad

  • Philips 325E8 31.5" 75Hz QHD FreeSync IPS Monitor was $259 a year ago,
I refuse to pay anything more than that.

I'd rather get the Philips 32" 4K model that pops up for sale every now and then

  • I bought a dell g3223d 2k 165hz 32" for $350 2 months back. This is a terrirble deal in comparison.

  • Bought this today at OW for $197 - used my staff card but it didn't get any discount because the sales fella claimed it was "below cost". Anyway, used a gift voucher $100 which was 15% off and another 4% for the remaining $97 bringing it to $178.2 all up. Here's my layman's review, noting that I upgraded from a 27 inch LG monitor from 2012ish - so it was your 1080p, TN panel, very old!

    The Good:

32 inches of screen real estate - a bit of a step up from 27 inches.
    IPS panel rather than VA.
Dirt cheap price but time will tell whether it will last the Korean made LG.
2k resolution - so looks reasonably crisp, initially had to muck around with the settings and so forth and realised having it in 2k but had to magnify it to 150%.
Base is quite sturdy and made from some sort of steel or aluminium mix? Doesn't wobble.
Panel and bezel is quite thin.

    The Bad:

Controls not the most ergonomic position.
Missing some USB ports - would have found a downstream USB charging port a nice to have.
    No height adjustment, only tilt.
May be a tad too large for my liking but this is my own fault - I sit roughly about 70cm away from the desk so a tad too big for when watching movies in full screen. For everyday work, I find it OK.

  • This is now $197 but I can't post it as it says it's already been linked here
