USB-C International Travel Adapter

Just after OzBargain’s recommendations on a decent option to take on overseas travel. Preferably a GaN charger with 3 USB-C ports and one USB-A. Inundated with Heymix, lencent and the likes but can’t ignore the numerous reports of issues with them.

Grab something with a figure 8 connector and buy cables for it.

eg: Belkin BoostCharge Pro, Satechi 165W 4 port

Or just a pack of travel adapters (assuming the charger can handle either 120 or 240V).

No, GPs idea is much better. More secure, convenient, and less chance of leaving it behind in the hotel room because it was hidden.

        • Not really sure how it is more convenient, but others are fair points. They are also bulkier, heavier, more expensive, and more difficult to obtain.

Just putting another option out there.

  • I have a Zendure travel adapter. It was on the pricier side but have no complaints.

Buy one powerboard and a single AU -> <Country of Choice> adapter.

Then just plug all your existing stuff into that.

This is what I do, I just use the same powerboard and chargers from home, with the relevant $8 adapter. Maybe a second adapter if I have a stopover.

    • What stuff? I assume the idea is to travel light. Everything I travel with is powered/charged from USB.

    • Have done this for years works great.

  • I have both the 65W lencent travel GaN and the 140W Toocki. Both work great for me.

  • Have the Heymix 75 Watt (purchased for $35 on sale)
Been putting it through its paces this week.
Runs cooler than the 65 hemix (non travel)
USB & USBC voltages are independent
Maxed it out with macbook, tablet & phone all charging at once. then put in usb headtorch via USB.
only downside so far is no earth pin.

    • I have that one as well. It has been working like a champ so far maxing out the ports with macbook, ipad, phone, battery packs, watch, etc. It has been in Aus (handy when travelling to only use one socket for so many ports, plus another higher power GaN through the AC socket), NZ, Europe for a few weeks, and a month of continous use powering things 24/7 while I was in Namibia (needed a plug converter as they use a special plug nobody else does) and all the stopovers along the way.

The 'no earth pin' is a downside, but then again, none of the things such as chargers (heynix 100W and Zyron 65W) or other devices I'd plug into it have earth pins on their AC plugs, so it isn't much of a loss there.

Only downside is that it is heavier than a plain multi-lug converter, or multi with a few USB ports.

  • In addition to a Lencent GaN 65w I also have one of these https://www.amazon.com.au/LENCENT-International-Charging-Wor… for my carry on - nice and compact for quick top up when on plane or in airport.

I use the Lencent https://www.amazon.com.au/LENCENT-Charger-Charging-Station-O… on a travel plug adaptor since I like the extension cord and powerboard functionality. This goes in my suitcase and the smaller one in carry on. Having two means I also have redundancy if one of them doesn't work (dodgy overseas power supplies can sometimes blow chargers).

Looks like Lencent has sale pricing now on Amazon

I got a Zyron 65W charger last year, which has been indispensable for my travels. It comes with various plugs suited for different countries so no adapter needed.

Per @freefall101, this Prime Day deal may be worth considering @$20 as long as you're fine with slow overnight charging: https://www.amazon.com.au/Outlets-Protection-Powerboard-Exte…
