[NSW] OzBargain 17th Birthday - Croydon Meetup (Thursday 2 Nov, 6:30PM @ Wagyu House Croydon)

To celebrate OzBargain's 17th birthday

My suggestion is meetup at Wagyu House buffet in Croydon

Date: 2nd November 2023
Time: 6:30pm
Cap: 25

Date is tentative but must be on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday dinner. Let's see if enough people are interested in the event and availability.

This is a buffet restaurant so no over limit and make the money worth as spirit of Ozbargain site

The price is $40 pp unlimited time on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday dinner

Ozbargain / Scotty strict limit is $35 pp so each person will chip in $5 which would make it easier as deposit to hold reservation.

I called and talked to the owner. They can support up to 250 people but I want to limit the meetup around 25 people.

There are plenty of open spaces available.

Food is in one area and seatings are in a different area. We can walk around and socialise with other ozbargain members.

Last but not least, buffet choices are great for $40 pp unlimited time. Don't need to worry about what to order, who order what

About 20 different sushi : salmon sushi, Prawn sushi, crab meat sushi, Tofu sushi, fish egg sushi, tuna sushi…
About 30-40 different meat: goat, pork, chicken, lamb, beef.
About 10 different seafood: salmon fish, Octopus, Squid, crab, Prawn, mussels, bass fish…
About 20 Korean side dishes: kimchi, Seaweed, bean sprouts, radish…
About 10 fresh vegetables: eggplant, mushrooms, potatoes, pumpkin, tomatoes, broccoli, lemon…

Please vote if you can want to go :)

Update #1 (24/10/2023): Event is full. I received deposit from 25 members.
Scotty will send me some Tshirts but not enough for everyone. It will be first come first served.

Update #2 (25/10/2023): We may have some prizes and exclusive promo codes from @Creative Labs I'm waiting for more info from @CLPL

Meals have also "upgraded" from Nandos to Din Tai Fung & buffets, which I felt were out of character for an OzBargain meetup.

    As said by scotty

  • How are people meant to vote/RSVP if there's no date.

    • Haha bear with me. First time organising an event for 30 people

  • I can come on Monday or Thursday night, but not on Wednesday night. Which date?

    • Updated date to 2nd November 2023 for you. There is a different meetup on the 1st so it may be good to be on a different date

  • +1

i dont know why so many organisers decided to post the meetup today same as prime day.
would it be better wait till after prime day? so many deals, may not get proper attention 0 just my 2cent

  • +8

we can make it $35, I can ask the owner for you

    • Do it!

    • +4

That would be great. I asked the owner about discount for Ozbargain group. She only offered standard discount one free for group of 10 as they don't have staff to handle discount payment for individual person. The discount one free for group of 10 would bring cost that Ozbargain reimbursed down below $35 pp.

      • So the $5 deposit will be refunded to us on the spot if we come?

        • No it's non-refundable, regardless of you come or not

          • -1

@kctt: But it's only $35 to the restaurant as you explained above with group buy, and Scotty will cover full amount?

            • @CyberMurning: Clearly didn't read the post properly, did you?

                @kerfuffle: I read this
I could be wrong tho. Apologies

@CyberMurning: @ChiMot The discount from "10 people get one free" if possible goes to ozbargain reimbursement to lower Ozbargain/Scotty's expense, not user.
Even if you can group 10 people and pay together, it's not $35 after discount. $400/11 people = $36.3 pp
For 25 people if we can pay in group - 2 groups of 10, it would be $920/25 people = $36.8 pp

    • @sunnyc did you talk to the owner? Do you have any special connection with the owner?

      • +1

Can’t be done, 10 buy 1 free sorry

  • Voted in the poll only to realise that there's a cap. Let me know if I can make it!

  • +1

If they can support up to 250 people, maybe better increase the cap? Do we still need to chip in $5 as deposit for reservation?

  • Hi,

I have added this post as an "event" on OzBargain, with a cap of 25 people. So if you have previously indicated that you are coming, you might see you on the waitlist (and the number of people in front of you).

    • Thanks @scotty. Where can I see list of users registered for the event so I can ask them to send $5 non-refundable deposit?

      • You can see some doco on the OzBargain's event module in the wiki. Go to the event tab to manage the participants.

        • Awesome. It looks great. Thank you.

          • @kctt: I am on waitlist even though you change the date for me πŸ˜‚

            • @neoleo: There is probably a spot for you. My pm is currently blocked after sending many messages to people registered for the event

              • @kctt: Where can I send $5 deposit? Beem? PayID? This is the first time I'll come to this event if I am included. I'd like to know each other, make new friends.

  • +1

Keen to go to Wagyu House. Still on the waitlist so hopefully someone drops out.

  • +2

I've sent message to members registered for the event with details to send $5 non-refundable deposit
One user account was registered after event was created so i think it's better to give the spot for an active long time member.
Some users do not have messaging enabled. Please message me @floriankaye @Lellec @wednesdayfaye

      • +2

You went to three events last year and have only made one comment, being the one above this one? :/ Maybe start contributing to the community more?

        • +2

Were they in the same state? There's a member that organised 8 meetups last year in both Vic & NSW. Going for 5 this year, so far.

          • +1

@Winterbloom: Yeah and my point is that you seem to be freeloading without making any contributions. You haven't posted a deal, you haven't commented prior to today, you haven't even voted or downvoted on any deals in the year you've been a member, yet you went to three meet-ups last year …

            • @kerfuffle: Wow, It does seem like this account was created purely to jump on the subsidised meetups.

            • +2

@kerfuffle: and poof now theres a deal lol

              • +1

@Serathis: And some votes! So hopefully over the next year we'll see some solid contributions :)

                • @kerfuffle: πŸ˜‚, actually got me thinking. Are there people who just create accounts to come for these subsidised events without actually being an active member on here and hence actually taking a spot from an actual active member. I had never thought people would be doing that but I can see now that some people would.

                  • +1
                    • +1

@kerfuffle: Wow 17.7% that's actually higher than I thought. That's a decent amount of spots taken from active members.

                  • +2

@lonewolf: Last year on one of the event I started a conversation about one of the recent biggest deal posted, and everyone on the table had no idea. Means they are not regularly visiting ozb and checking the deals

        • wow you could see that info (went to 3 last year??) wow no more privacy in ozb :(
oh yeah from the badges… cool

    • Just paid to your PayID. Thanks for organizing.

    • Last reminder @Lellec @wednesdayfaye

      • Messages enabled now, could you please share where to send deposit?

  • I was no.1 on the waitlist but it doesnt state that anymore, does that mean i am included in the event now?

    • Yes you are registered for the event. It should show on this page "You have registered for this event"
Somehow I miss you when sending out pm. I will send you a pm

  • Keen to come if any spots open up. Currently on the waitlist

  • +2

Event is full. I received deposit from 25 members.
Scotty will send me some Tshirts but not enough for everyone. It will be first come first served.

  • Bummer I missed out. The message was sent to me Friday night but I am not online much on weekends and didn't see the notification till today. :(πŸ˜•πŸ˜”.

Can I still be on the waitlist if someone cancels?

    • You were in waitlist in the first batch of messages. I sent you message after some people in first batch said they cannot come. Now everyone paid deposit. It's unlikely someone will cancel

  • +2

We may have some prizes and exclusive promo codes from @Creative Labs
I'm waiting for more info from @CLPL
Other sponsors please feel free to message me if you have something to offer :-)

    • +1

Creative Labs did not proceed with sponsoring because there is limited time to the event

  • +4

I will be at the event from 6:15pm tomorrow. I will wear ozbargain tshirt so you can recognise me.
See you there. Don't be late. Restaurant requires payment upfront not at the end. @everyone

  • Any last minute spots open up ? :p

  • Who would I ask if arriving few mins late? Still on the bus from central. If I mentioned ozbargain will they know?

  • I'm at the restaurant now. A few users already show up.

  • +3

Thank you for the Ozbargain T-shirt and shopping bag. Good chat with some Ozbargainers and got inspiration too. I forget about the photos together. How can I get the photos? Good memories :)

    • +1

And thanks to Ben the organiser!

    Thanks Ben πŸ™‚

Thanks Ben, awesome time with the peeps and I’m sure we hot more than we bargained for (food wise)

  • +3

Thanks everyone for coming. It is a pleasure to meet other ozbargainers. We had great time eat, drink, talk and laugh.
I hope everyone enjoy the event.
Thank you @scotty and ozbargain for sponsoring the meetup event :)
I think this is a great event to kick start Ozbargain 17th birthday parties

Thanks for hosting! Nice to meet most of you!

    • +1

Thanks for organising! Great meeting most of you. And thanks to Scotty and OZB team for sponsoring. Happy Birthday!

  • +1

Thanks Ben. was awesome meeting everyone and making some new friends.
I feel like this kind of meetup shouldn't just be an annual thing but maybe monthly. of course, minus the free food, we dont want @scotty to go broke lol
