+1 from me if for no other reason than the description!

  • They've actually got OK casual shoes (if they're half-priced).

  • doubt it will be on the horse polo's. selected styles only

    • Polos are almost always included in the sales (probably because they are a #1 seller and they sell even better whenever they get discounted + they are highly overpriced in Oz - 2x the price of the US so they still have a big profit margin even at 50% off).

Black Label is usually an exclusion

Selected Styles?? Not wanting to be a killjoy but I'll save my enthusiasm until we see what is actually on discount.

  • Ralph Lauren at DFO Sydney has (had?) 70% off all items (excluding childrens) on Sunday.
I picked up a polo shirt RRP $109 for $32.70

So much wrongness in a polo shirt being $109 (as RRP).

      • +7

        In Australia, its possible

        • +1

Yeah… The same sort of wrongness that lets some stores coughharrisscarfecough sell pots for $39 with an RRP of $399 (no exaggeration, I bought one :P).

      • Well, I take it back (kind of!). I visited David Jones, out of curiosity, and yes, they have the deal. Most of the polos were down to around $109 from around 160-170 RRP! OMG! I don't care if they were hand woven by Tibetan monks whilst on a lunar walk, that’s just plain BS! Don’t get me wrong, $30-50 sure, but 170? For something that probably cost around $2-3 to make, I don’t think so. I wonder if people would pay so much, if they were called "Ralph Lifschitz" (his real name!)

    • As far as I know, Ralph Lauren at DFO Sydney has had 70% off all items (excluding children's) for the past half a year.

Cheap Polo is always good. I am still wearing one from 1978. Over priced? Hell no!

problem is, quality is inversely related to production quantity. Logically, when production is localised in one place, quality control is much easier.

Nowadays these 'luxury' items are produced all over the place and half of them don't even have decent quality checks.

    Had this in my mailbox
    http://www.shoppingsquare.com.au/product.php?id=401920&n=220…

    It's also a Polo with a horse on it…
Note the picture, with the "right" detail carefully adjusted so when you zoom in, you can kind of see something that looks like "Ralp Hanren"…

    • do they have the small horse version lol ?

    • "Ralp Hanren"

      LOL!! gold!!

    • That's probably a centaur.

    • LOL, can't say I am surprised coming from SS.
Maybe it will be a collectors item in the future!

well, im not a polo fan boy here. but if you compare the prices from RPL to brands like roger david, YD, sportsgirl, country road, marcs etc (your local aussie brands). they are equally overpriced as well for the quality they provide. generic made-in-china materials, with similar constructions to RPL. and consider that the price we pay for them, $80-$160 for a shirt from these brands, arent we all getting ripped off as well?

  • +1

thought i share this with everyone.

be careful about special, as sometimes they just increase original the price and do a big discount.

    cheers

    • that's terrible! Which is why i rarely buy anything 'on sale' without knowing the actual RRP first. And i'm not talking about the australian 'RRP'.

    • Ralph Lauren have set RRP's that are the same across all of their stores in Aus apart from the DFO stores so it would be pretty obvious if they ever marked something up.

If you wear RL, chances are that you already know the RRPs of the stuff you like anyway because similar clothes/designs are all priced the same.

nahh when i say actual RRP, i mean RRP in its country of origin. The big ponies that sell for $140 here sells for $98 in the states.

Since 98/140 = 70% of the australian RRP, i don't buy them unless the discount is more than 30% (since '30% off' = normal US price).

        • haha yup

i never believe the brandname price was that cheap till i went to US, so if i'll spend 1500+ on clothes+shoes stuff over maybe a yr, with current XE its worth while just go to Vegas for shopping

  • Actually a pony but anyways..

Is it a voucher i need to print out? Are the Paramatta David Jones gonna have sale?

    • According to fine print on voucher: "valid in…selected Myer and David Jones stores - contact 1800 501 201 for participating stores".

No mention of whether you actually need to bring the voucher, so I assumed no. If they did need it then I'm sure an electronic copy would suffice.

  • Ill wait to see how this ends up going before I vote. Why you ask because DFO polo outlet almost always has 70% off RRP and even then their 'Sarah Jessica Parker' shirts are pretty pricey. If this stacks with whatever offer myer or DJ's has then it has the potential to be a solid bargain. just my $0.02.

  • +1

considering how cheap these things are in north america, paying anything more than 50 bucks for the polo is a rip off

Dont think i've seen anyone wear polos anymore, people have become less superficial

      Guess they haven't hahah losers

Why not buy an Air Asia sale flight to Malaysia and buy them for $5 at the markets and get to see a beautiful Asian country while you are there. Yeah they are rip offs but its some cotton stitched together with a horse on the front, we aren't talking about the construction of a rocket. And then Australian Retail wonders why it is going down the drain.

    Nice deal all the same.

    • You can buy rip offs from iOffer.com without having to go to Petaling Street.

If you want original Ralph Laurens or Tommy Hilfigers for cheap, go to Colombo.

Polos are great, DFO is well worth it. geeeeed for this

  • I bought some of the pocket tshirts from Myer last time they had this sale. Think I might try scoop a few more up, been wearing one a lot and it's still as soft as when I bought it and it's a great fit for me

  • So did anyone check out the sales today? What's the word on selection/pricing/availability etc?

    • pretty standard RL sale. Hardly anything at 50% off, mostly 30%, which as i have mentioned before puts it to parity with US prices. Then again, might be different at RL flagship stores. We only have a myer and dj here in adelaide, and they run the same promotion simultaneously at the same price.
