  • How does this compare to a crucial mx500? Not sure if Lexar is as reliable.

    • +2

Are you getting crucial mx500 closer to this price?

      • +4

Some people value reliability over price.

    • +4

I would only use this as a junk drive. Maybe for a stream game library or emulator + Roms… Everyone has heaps of 500gb SATA drives.. 1TB and 2TB are the ones people want.

      • +2

Need a larger SSD for ROM files. Trying to come up with other excuses to buy this toy, no luck so far.

        • +2

          Same.. i don't want anything under 1TB :)

      • Picked up the Kingston A400 (almost) 2TB for $81 and change, not sure I even want to use that for anything other a junk drive …

    • +2

Based on TechPowerUp's data recorded in 2018 for this SSD, it is more like BX500.

The big question mark is if BX500 has gone QLC, could this have also gone QLC?

  • +1

    Good price as gaming drive

  • Was hoping the larger variant had similar sale.

  • +1

Wonder how it compares to something like the Silicon Power Ace A55, which is $31.99 AU stock and available for next day delivery.

    512GB :(

    • +15

      $27 :)

    Lexar = Longsys = Micron/YMTC NAND.

Well YMTC based 8TB SATA 232L TLCs are coming and will be cheap enough - for the time being it's HODL for me :)

    • +1

YMTC based 8TB SATA 232L TLCs are coming and will be cheap enough

Find that hard to believe, considering there is a good chance NM790 2TB and 4TB are not using 232L NAND flash (according to flash utility). It's still the new version of the YMTC NAND though. NM790 never sets the record of $/GB if you factored in all the PCIe gen 3 and all time best deals. Come on, Lexar, make NM790 1TB $55 to match the previous 990 Pro 1TB deal.

Lexar YMTC QLC SSDs are also coming.

  • +2

The big question mark about this SSD is whether it had component swaps done to it. Kingston, for example, has done multiple swaps for its SATA SSDs. Review Web site says TLC NAND, but Kingston has been selling QLC version for more than 1 year now for one of their cheap SATA SSDs (and NV2 is lottery).

Not liking the NAND type for Amazon international purchase during the initial 30 days will attract return label shipping charge if you want to return it.

  • This shows as a prime exclusive deal. Please update description

      The title has [Prime]

  • got 1 for ext game drive on the xbox one S ! doesnt need to be a beast, cheap as! cheers

    • +1

So you can fit 2.5 games on it? Lol. So annoying the size of games.

      • lol yep i have 3 games on my 500g mx500 and cpl more for this one, dont play that many

  • Any point putting this into a ps4 pro?

    • +1

Yeah, last time i checked the PS4 media player can access 'any' drive to play your media.

    • Yes, putting an SSD in your PS4 (or with more hackery, an Xbox One) makes a massive difference in speed. Check out Digital Foundry's coverage from 2021 (they also did previous testing in 2016): https://www.eurogamer.net/digitalfoundry-2020-8tb-ps4-pro-st….

I've personally done it as well, and found it worth my time. Even the OS is much snappier and more responsive. You won't get the full benefit but it is a big upgrade.

  • Is it good for NAS? I want to put it as the main drive and use HDD as the second drive. Thank you.

    • +2

As a boot drive? That will be fine.

If you want some extra safety, over provision it; format it 10% smaller than its max :)

      • Thank you for your suggestion. :)

  • +1

Wow the commenters above are NAND supply chain pros. I'm still running just a 250GB Evo 850 lol

    • +1

Hello time traveler from 2015 :)

      • +2

I still have one if those 250GB intel ssds from 10 years back sealed in box.

Was going to use it but figured in its current condition would be worth a bit as a collector item

  • Is this good for portable ssd if I put an enclosure on it?

  • Need a larger one. Any 1TB or 2TB ssd deal? Thank you!

  • Thanks op bought one.
When you have a Xeon 2690 and 1660 super you aren't too fossed on SSD speed

  • +1

Damn, just missed it I think. Realised this would be good for seeding the high seas.
