Ryobi 18V 4Ah ONE+ Hammer Drill Kit $98.49 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store/ OnePass) @ Bunnings

1940

Just spotted this. Guessing it's a price match for a Bosch kit as part of Prime deals, and would expect it to expire soon.

funny how Bunnings want $149 for the battery & charger on their own

    • +2

Yep got one of these previously just because I needed a new battery ! Get a free drill !

    • Not trying to justify the difference, but it's a different charger - ryobi makes like probably 4 different speed chargers in addition to some of the multi battery chargers. For DIY use, I reckon you won't even notice the difference.

      • +8

Unless you need to continuously drain them multiple times in a day; Slower the better :)

    • Should I buy two then? Why would want mor than one battery?

      • +3

There's never enough batteries. I need at least 3. One on the drill, one on the driver, one on charge.

Of course you can compensate with time. Spend time moving the battery from on tool to the other, and take a break when it needs charging.

        • +1

I have 12. Trust me you need many.

Bought every ryobi tool on special or clearance.

Everything from mowing the lawn to cutting stuff all on the same system and charge it via solar, it's awesome.

        • Okay I’ll buy two then. I’ll use them for 6.5 minutes each.

    • Lol tell me about it :-)

I had to buy some batteries because the 10 year old one just wasnt cutting the mustard any-more.

Bought 2 of the 5aH for an ridiculous price.
The silver lining was when one of the batteries was faulty, they had no 5ah units left, so upgraded me to the even more ridiculously priced 6ah for no extra charge.

The 6ah are flipping good - I can do an entire job without needing to change.

  • thanks OP. bought one!

    Hammer Drill Kit $98.47

    Can't touch this…

  • Thanks op got one too

      • +2

How else do you think he got it off the shelf and into his garage. Not everything you pick up has to be heavy.

      • His wallet? Doubt it after his shopping spree.

  • Would this be good for just installing cameras, hooks or doorbells onto brick walls? Or brackets for TVs? Just general household stuff really.

    • absolutely

    • Yep, should be good for all that.

    • +4

      Would this be good for

It's good for drilling holes in many, many things. It doesn't matter what you use the hole for, if you need a hole, this is the tool for the job.

      • +6

Couldn't agree more. 10/10 would use it to make a hole again.

      • +1

It also does a pretty good job at screwing things up

      • What if you wanted a big hole?

        • Might need a hole stretcher. I think Bad Dragon make some…

    • Yeah, I have this. Solid unit, and compact. Perfect for all housework. I am in Perth with a brick house, and it makes short work of drilling into masonry.

  • +1

waitimg for deals on ozito pxc one.

  • Cheers OP, good deal.

  • Didn't really need the drill, but have been looking for another battery & charger - this will do, thanks!

  • THanks OP. just purchased it

  • Cool. Now I can get rid of my Ozito drill.

  • I purchased one last month for full price and haven't opened it yet. Does anyone know if I can go back to bunnings and ask for a refund because its available for less now?

    • +1

Best to buy this, and then take the old one back once the price goes up.

    • yes no issues, just take it back for a refund, then go re-purchase.
you can just say you didn't need it .

    • +2

Just buy this one now and go back and return the other one. As long as it's unopened and you have the receipt…they won't care

    • +1

yes they've got a money back no questions asked policy just need the receipt

    • +1

I've returned unopened items after a year with no issue.

On one occasion i didnt have the receipt and returned but price had gone up. I started explaining i was getting more back than i purchased for, but the store persn said dont worry about it.

    • +2

I once bought some laminate flooring from them and the next day they reduced the price. So I went to the service desk and asked if I could return it and buy it again for a cheaper price and they just refunded me the difference.

  • Was on the look out for a new battery. This cost less plus I get a free drill!

  • Needed a battery.
This is a great deal. Will gift the drill to my father :-)

  • I’ll buy. I’m old enough for a big boy drill now I think.

  • How does this compare to the brushless model?

    • +6

well main thing this has a brush and the brushless model doesn't

      • Care to elaborate? :)

        • -5

          Google it 😉

          • +1

@boomramada: lol Brushed motors have coils in their center rotating around magnets while brushless motors have magnets in the center that rotate around the coils.

AFAIK Brushless are more power efficient, hence will last longer on batteries.

            • @corremn: Or ask @corremn, people are pure slack lately. Plus brushless last longer, less overheat.

      • I found the brushless model kit with impact driver and 2 batteries to be a better deal at around 200 (when they go on sale).

  • Is 4.0Ah battery going to be too heavy for home DIY use of the drill?

  • Bought one, hopefully it’s good enough to install my cam on brick wall thanks

  • -1

I have a couple of Ozito 4mah batteries lying around, are they good to use with this Ryobi drill?

    • +2

Only if those batteries has a label, Ryobi 18V ONE+

  • +1

I was picking one off the shelf at nunawading when the staff came to take one for presumably another ozb from over the phone.

    "Two left said the staff".

You'll know who you are ozb member.

    • Might have been my click and collect order :D

  • +6

the real bargain is borrowing one. The avg drill is only used for 13 minutes of its life
    https://www.1millionwomen.com.au/blog/i-dont-need-power-dril…

    • Interesting statistic but definitely doesnt apply in my case. Have drilled tens of thousands of holes in the last decade alone. Used to install aircons, lol. Still have 6 drills, if you include the drill press and rotary hammer, and they all still get used.

  • Any recommendations for a decent enough drill but set to go with this?

    • +1

Personally I like Milwaukee drill bits and have a a couple of sets, one is about ten years old, the other about 5. But anything from Sutton, Bosch Professional, P&N etc is very good.

  • Is this better or Bosch one?

    • Bosch has different lines of products that vary in quality and price. If you didn't know that much, you should be ok with either.

  • Ordered, thanks OP

  • Thanks OP

  • Thanks heaps OP

  • +1

The battery itself (model RB1840C) is worth $149 on its own. So you are getting a free drill and a charger too :)

  • Any recommendations for a cheap lightweight drill used to polish cars with those cleaning attachments?

    Ozito 16 Piece Drill Brush Set $14.89 + Delivery ($0 C&C/in-Store) @ Bunnings
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/788750

    • +1

Do you have experience polishing a car with rotary drill attachments? If not, then it's absolutely not recommended as it's really easy to mess up and leave holograms in the paint. Instead I'd suggest looking at a dual action machine eg. https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/toolpro-toolpro-car-poli…

      • Good point mate, no I haven't and was just trying to get away with some light car polishing + shower glass cleaning with a cheap multipurpose drill. I might keep to hand polishing the car then thanks.

What cheapie lightweight drill would you suggest for shower glass cleaning? Would this Ozito Home 12V Drill Driver work? Cheers

  • Which one is the Bosch kit on amazon?

  • -1

Hey boys, will the battery compatible with Bosch drill?

    • No different brand

    • No it wont. They are completely different. These have a stem type attachment and both Bosch green and blue use a slide style battery.

  • thanks, now I am in their ecosystem.

  • +2

Random Orbital Sander is a great deal too. From $119 to $68.99.

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-18v-one-random-orbital-san…

Bought the drill driver + battery/charger with the sander.

  • Thanks OP, bought one!

  • +1

I found out the hard way for masonry, having a good quality drill bit matters more than the actual brand or type (brushless/brushed) hammer drill. You can also drill into masonry using a normal drill if the drill bit is good (albeit slower and need some pushing).

  • Haven't bought a drill before - does this include some drill bits or do I need to buy it as well? Is there any disadvantage to buying this over a normal rotary drill I.e. Non-hammer

    • This is a good starter. Has a hammer function too.
      But no drill bits.

  • hey OZB fam - Would this be too powerful with Plasterboards?

  • The ryobi drill is decent but if you are planning on drilling into metal then it wont be good enough. I mean, it may be able to drill into very thin metal but any thicker than it would be nearly impossible. I tried it with various drill metal drill bit and it never manage to pierce through. Which is why I upgraded to the Makita and it drilled through metal like butter. But the price difference between the two is huge.

    • I think Ryobi is more for the home handyman and DYI type of jobs.

      • Is Ryobi a Bunnings homebrand? When you search Ryobi you get only Bunnings results, except for the odd eBay and Amazon marketplace listing.

        • They seem to have the national retail contract - just a guess as it's a world wide brand

    • +1

Man, I have to call you out on that. You are so wrong.

Drilling through steel has absolutely nothing to do with the torque of a drill, or even the drill bit. It has more to do with rotational speed and technique. There is so much B/S here about using drills it near blows my mind. So little knowledge and so many uninformed opinions.

You want to drill through something like 3-6mm or even 8mm steel? Start with a 3mm drill bit as a pilot hole. Then go to a 4mm or 5mm and slowly step up.

. I mostly use Makita 12v tools and they have less grunt than most 18v tools and I have never have an issue,

      • I did tried with different speed setting, starting from smaller holes etc and the drill you have plays a factor. I have own ryobi for many years, it is good, but when you want to drill metal, then it isnt up for the job. I said this based on my experience. Since switching to Makita 40v, the same problem with drilling metal no longer exist.

I had an older model of the ryobi drill, so this newer ryobi drill may be better.

    • Whaaaaat? I'm a professional, on the tools nearly every day. Have 6-7 cordless drills and several corded. I have this particular model drill and I can assure you it will drill metal just fine. This drill has more than satisfactory power but if you think drilling metal requires power, you're simply wrong. Your drill bits, temperature management and technique are far, FAR more important than the model drill you use.

      • This is my experience using ryobi drill. They aint good enough for ME when drilling into metal. Same thing happen when drilling into brick using masonry drill bit. I use a drill everyday and have tons of experience drilling into metal and various type of materials. I understand when to go fast or slow, temperature management, which techniques to apply etc.

Like I said before as well, the ryobi drill I had was an older model so that may play a part.

I had success drilling metal and masonary ( using the correct bit ) using various type of drill ( corded and cordless ) and different model maker but only the ryobi drill was the one that had difficulty drilling into those materials.

  • Also been looking for battery replacements, good timing thanks OP!

  • +1

Any suggestions for a cheap wirebrush kit addon for these drills?

  • +4

    Thanks OP just got one.

FYI Bunning staffs told me today is the last day for this deal if its not mentioned anywhere here.

  • +2

Bought one, don't need one, thanks ozbargain.
