  • Hi Dan1983, i'll be the first to admit i'm not an expert on knives. However, I can walk into any Harris Scarfe and pick up 30 different knife block sets - all of them cheaper than $349 - and some of them appearing to be "even better" on paper and also looking better aesthetically. What makes these ones so good?

Global is generally considered one of the best knife brands available. It's like the ferrari of the knife world.

      • +2

I think "best" might be stretching it…

Shun/Wustorf/Henckel are much better then Global…

        • -2

I disagree.. Global are much better than Shun/Wustorf.. IMO. Also i have this exact set and paid $250 when House had a sale.. Dont buy cheap sharpening tools! Look after them they will last a very long time..

        • Much better? Than which Shun/Wustorf knives? Shun's Pro2/Elite range is leagues ahead of Global's offering…

    • What makes these ones so good? They look cool.

Global are the knife equivalent of Apple. They look good, are well known, decent rep, and being on trend seem to hold their value.

Disclaimer: I own the Synergy set. Price at my supplier has jumped from $279 to $395 recently. Tip: don't buy these without also buying a quality sharpener. Shop around.

well if they look Cool and are the "Apple" of the knife world then I had better buy a set straight away!

        • +1

Get on it! Extra cool factor if you camp overnight at the post office the day before your knives arrive.

Global Knives are da shiz, I have this exact set.

The knives cut easily and are easy to retain their sharpness with a few strokes on the global sharpener.

However I bought these in PERTH at a STORE for $295.

The world has gone to he11 when Perth stores beat internet prices.

  • There is small bargain here but you have misrepresented actual price. You can purchase this or other Global blocks for roughly this price from any store, including DJs etc and have been able to do so for years. There may be an RRP, but $350-$450 is very much ARP (actual retail price).

    eg: Harvey norman for 399 - http://www.harveynormankitchenware.com.au/m/251/global?gclid…

your home depot for 399 + free shipping - http://www.yourhomedepot.com.au/products/global-knives/globa…

    • There is small bargain here

$50 is better than a poke in the eye….

  • Global knives are amazing - we have this set at home (diff block though) and they are really really good.

However - $350 doesnt feel like a bargain as i am 99% sure that when we got ours it was for $299.

Not going to neg the deal (as after a super uick look it is around $50 cheaper atm) - just making people aware that they can drop to cheaper prices if you are lucky.

  • you can get this sort of special at most knife stores, any day of the week … knives are often sold 50% off and anyone who pays the RRP for a knife block is foolish …

as for global, they're one of the better brands that are always on special, they take a bit of getting use to due to the handle and weighting, but are a decent brand with a good blade … more of a Honda than a Ferrari …

  • ok price for great knives, buy these and they will last you 30+ years with proper care and maintenance.

  • Ive also got Global knifes and have had them for over 5 years. They are very good knifes, the price of this set is about average to high and not a bargain, looks like advertising
