Excellent price for a great PS5 storage drive when bundled with something else from the promotional items. I bundled with the cheapest item I could find and it came down to 196.87

Happy days.

o wow thats the cheapest I remember paying like 450 when it first got released for teh 2tb.

  • 990 pro samsung better than it…?

Hopefully, all current stocked 990 Pro have latest (or new enough) firmware. Technically SN850X owners should upgrade firmware too, but at least the issue isn't severe as the initial 990 Pro.

990 Pro does really well in a lot of benchmark test, but isn't very impressive in gaming test (still good, but just not as impressive). SN850X does recover SLC cache fast so if you have a need to re-write a lot of data often then SN850X is better.

      • Surely the differences between the two are very negligible though, right? The numbers are so similar that we shouldn't be able to tell the difference in performance.

Use this in my ps5 and it's great would recommend

    • Was it plug and play straight from the box, or did it need to be updated first?

      • I believe there was no update - just plug in and good to go

  • This or NM790 4tb as my Win 11 drive? I currently have a silicon power 512GB

    • I have the NM790, but for Win 10. Runs fast and great for my very ordinary use case. No complain.

    • +2

      this over NM790 any day

    • This drive is only second to the 990 pro by a little

  • Hmm buy or hodl???
Seems like the non heatsink version has been $147 before

You + voted it so you feel it is good enough to buy. FOMO buy now, it's your credit card, not mine.

Joking aside, unless you always miss out on those super duper, or potentially pricing error but honoured by Amazon deals, might as well wait. Not a big fan of needing to buy another useless item to get extra discount. Also, all these flagship class PCIe gen 4 x4 are overkill for most of us.

      • Just dont get one with bad heatsinks your ps5 once they unlock and get new updates will run hotter in future and a ssd witha bad heatsink or heat management wont be good

        • +1

Not really, SSD writes generate heat so unless you love copying games to and from internal SSD to the m.2 SSD constantly, the heatsink is mainly there is stop you from thinking about not having heatsink in PS5.

Based on Tom's Hardware's test, the fastest performance is not having heatsink on the SSD but with the PS5 plastic cover plate not installed. Also, even with cover plate installed, there is no significant performance difference between having the SSD without heatsink and with heatsink.
