House Slippers - Do You Wear Them and Where Did You Get Yours?

Do you wear slippers around the home?

Been trying to find some in the shops but besides a couple of different styles of UGGs and Tommy Hilfinger ones it seems it's slim pickings.

Looking for mens here.

Some Ralph lauren ones from myer when they were on sale for cheap, were actually really comfy and well made, cats chewing on them + using daily and after a year or so they were done

Now i just buy kmart cheapies

  • Temu

  • For winter, I wear ASICS Gel Kayano running shoes around the house.
They are only for inside use.
They give great support especially for standing desk setup.

    For summer I wear Crocs.

I have tried Uggs, but find that they don't offer much support.

  • Emu, with daylight to whatever is the next best.

  • LongBay brand slippers on Amazon are pretty good.

I’m SE Asian and wearing outdoor shoes inside just feels wrong.

    • Why is that? I remember going to my Asian friend's house when I was little and seeing the shelves of shoes at the door and wondered why (whilst taking my own shoes off to show respect for the house, of course)

      • Think on this:
Do you wear shoes into public toilets? Do you wear those same shoes into your house?

The reasons vary depending on culture. Some reasons originate from religious practices about not wearing ‘impure’ footwear in sacred places, so this extended to homes. Some might believe you’re bringing in ‘spirits’ from outside or whatever.

The basic gist of it all is really just to not tarnish living spaces with dirty shoes.

    • It’s not just an Asian thing. Scandanvians also do not wear shoes inside their houses

      • Yeah I didn’t mean to imply it was exclusively an Asian thing - it’s the social norm in plenty of places.

  • UGG slippers. Buy them when they are so sale - under $35 a pair. Very comfy and warm in the winter. Not very durable though and would be very hard to clean, so I bin them after two years.

In summer, I wear Teva Mush II thongs around the house. I have a pair just for indoors. I've found them to be the best thongs on the market.

  • By these, then tell me what they're like

  • Daiso. Prob the cheapest. Bought heaps for guest ones as well.

  • When it's cold I wear UGG boots, otherwise I wear these: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/704726

I bought these off Amazon earlier this year. Super comfy, can be easily washed in the washing machine and dried. Highly recommended!

  • Husband likes Uggs (slip on or boots). I wear similar to this https://www.bigw.com.au/product/wave-zone-women-s-buckle-pla…
I have plantar fasciitis so I must either wear shoes with orthotics or not very flat slippers (ideally I should wear shoes with orthotics all the time, but works pretty well with these slippers).
Also I get backache at times and Physio suggested I avoid very flat shoes

  • As 'house-shoes' I wear a good quality pair of German, leather slip-on sandals, slightly over-sized. They are adjustable so I can wear them with socks in winter. I have been doing this since the first time I went to Germany in 1983. I've never liked Birkenstock, they don't feel comfortable and are overpriced even in Gemany. I get something on-special in that style of sandal. I haven't kept notes but they seem to last about 10 years. My current pair I bought in 2017. When they get tatty I leave them near the back-door to wear as 'backyard shoes'.

  • Vionic in cold weather, Archies thongs in warm weather. I have to have arch-support at all times but everyone should anyway.

  • whatever it is, i prefer open-toe slippons/slides around

  • Gets to -3 here in winter, got some Chinese ones from eBay they do the job

  • 'House Slippers - Do You Wear Them'

no - because we have carpet everywhere - carpet tiles in the kitchen, mats in the bathroom, and rubber mats in the laundry - so don't need slippers for that comfortable soft footfall feeling

  • Adidas comfort slides. Very comfy for indoor use especially on floorboards.

Not worth RRP but definitely when they're on discount.

  • I've been wearing crocs for the past decade. They're like steel-toe boots for home since I haven't stubbed my toe on anything.

  • I do but only in the colder months. For the next 5 or so months I'll be going barefoot.

I did buy some RockDove slippers from Amazon in the middle of winter. They're pretty good. I paid less than $20 at the time.

    • I second these. Bought a pair many months back cause big w slippers for 5$/10$ wasn't cutting it. They have memory foam but like all slippers they go flat eventually. Sole is excellent in terms of durability. These were good for daily use 10+ hours 2xmonths.

If your constantly on your feet get new sneakers and wear them in house! Better long term support and prob cheaper. And air them out occasionally and use bosisto tea tray spray :)

  • Why. Just go barefoot.

  • Crocs are good year round. Add some socks in winter. Though I think they do sell fleece lined crocs…

  • I love open-toe slippons/slides as well for wearing around the house, but I've found they they are really hard to find in a size US 16.

I haven't found any at all in my size since coming back to Australia.

In case you need a health and safety reason.

    • just have some "indoor shoes" that never get worn outside.

      That is the key.

  • In colder months I wear socks (currently Explorer socks I purchases on sale) around inside, and generally soft booties, with a zipper, that just cover the ankle, that I found in the woman's section at BigW. They cost $29 but I have started preferring them to slippers.

My feet are my body's thermometer. When the temperature drops I feel it first in my feet.

  • Got some 'cleaning slippers' from Daiso

Actually really comfortable and great on tiles.

  • sheepskin slippers in winter, slides or barefoot in summer

Lot of options in this thread would be nightmare on Summer days + those with sweety foot like me.
I have something similar to those in the link, my mom bought them from asian store I think (we are from SEA), good for summer and after shower. In winter, I just wear socks on top.

  • Yes

    -Got free from hotels

  • If you have foot odor or problems.

    1. Don't wear synthetic socks. Use breathable cotton, clean pair daily and bi-daily for 10+ hours.

    2. Dry your shoes out. Shoes should never be damp, otherwise shit starts growing.

    3. Don't keep old shoes like forever. Replace them when needed.

*If your shoes ever do get really wet from rain or water, either wash em and dry em or dry them as quickly as possible - within 24-48hrs

  • Yes when it's cold. Kmart have a large selection

  • I have 2 pairs of ugg slippers, but the sole is clunky and heavy. Also feels like a waste as the fur lining inside gets worn and trodden and dirty over time, so I opt for cheap+comfy+light kmart/bigw/aldi fluffy slippers and chuck out when they get old. In summer or when it's warm, I use adidas slides, and other 'slide' type slippers bought from aliexpress (a lot of them are knockoff brand designs), which are durable and washable, and have a few pairs extra for guests. Also have some of those socks with grips/a surface on the bottom, and the cleaning socks from Daiso!

  • adidas

  • Yes.

    House thongs.

Summer is coming you dont need slippers.

  • Mortels best uggs / slippers around

  • I bought a pair of Birkenstock slippers from Icon Footwear in Hobart. They were on special as a 'last pair' so probably around $50 or so. Had them for nearly two years now and they get constant use, and they've held up really well. I fully expect to get another year or two out of them. Previously, I'd buy whatever is cheap at Target or Kmart and they'd be lucky to last a single winter. I lashed out once and bought an expensive pair at Myer, and they started falling apart within weeks - total rubbish.

One good feature of the Birks is the sides are low and they're a woollen felt so they breathe well; I get hot feet that exude a lot of moisture so synthetics can start to pong easily. I often leave the Birks near a sunny window for an afternoon and it helps to freshen them up nicely.
