Return Airfare to Milan, Italy $999 (May 2013)

90

This deal isn't available online so you will need to call or visit STA. They also mention that it is ex SYD or MEL, so not sure what this means but I guess it could mean "excluding"?

I wonder what would be the best way to take advantage of this fair. eg. connect it to the start of a contiki tour or something.

Also travel is 1-30 May 2013.

I wonder how hard it would be to coordinate a trip from Milan to London in order to start many of their contiki tours. :/

Milan is one of the cheaper places to fly from in Europe; easyJet has flights in May 2013 for about AUD40 for Milan to London one way.

Wow, anyone care to explain why my comment deserved all those negs? Thanks for making me feel bad for offering what I thought was helpful advice.

  • Great price, but has anyone confirmed who the airline are? On the STA website, they only list "STA" as the carrier, so it could yet be a 40 hour flight with a 3rd rate airline via all corners of the globe…

    • Presumably not with any of the full-service airlines listed below STA on the same table. i.e. Cathay, SIA, Ethiad, Emerits, Virgin and Qatar.

    • I bought from STA earlier this year and flew with Ethihad and Emirates

I don't imagine it would be any different to one of these flights

Flights are "FROM" 999 - highly doubt this will be the final fare. All travel agents advertise like this but when you call to get an exact quote price are very different.

According to their website the advertised prices include all taxes and they don't charge a booking fee on international flights.

It's just "From" because they - no agent - can guarantee you will get a flight at that price on every date in that period, because there are only a limited number of tickets at that price on each flight.

If they advertised the fare was exactly $999 from 1-31/5 then people would complain as flights were sold out that they were overcharging, false or bait advertising. In reality they will offer the next fare class up… though sometimes the difference is small and other times it is large between fare classes.

Melbourne to KL on AirAsia, KL to Rome on Etihad.

    • You've done well - cheers. Do you know if KL to Rome is direct or via the Middle East?

I'm two emails into an exchange with one of their service reps after making a website submission requesting more details and they still haven't revealed so much as the carrier…

    • Yep, spoke to STA today and confirmed there is a leg of the flight on Air Asia

  • It is a bargain!!!! (for adult passengers only) …..
I spent nearly one hour on hold to find out more and spoke to a lovely agent that confirmed the first leg (Melb-KL) is with Air Asia and the second leg (KL-Milan) is with Etihad. So for adults flying it is actually $999- return. As Air Asia don't have children fares it turned out to not be a good deal for us (it would cost $999 each for our family of four which includes 2 adults, 1 child and 1 infant)

The agent gave me another option of flying emirates from Melb - KL and then Etihad to Milan Return

$Adult will cost you $1,200 per person
    Child - $890
    Infant - $250
A total of $3,500 for the whole family,
    (inclusive of taxes)
    A good price overall!!!

    • Great prices, but I suspect the KL-Milan leg would actually require a 2nd stopover somewhere as I don't believe Etihad fly direct between those two stops. Not great for anyone travelling with kids and looking to minimize travel time and time spent in airports…
