The 2023 Palestinian Film Festival Australia has been postponed, and two documentaries from previous years have been made free to stream.

From their website:

The continuing crisis in Occupied Palestine is heartbreaking. Our thoughts, prayers and love are with the innocent and vulnerable people caught up in this latest war. This is not the time to hold a film festival. It is time to mourn the dead, pay our respects to those suffering and work together to bring an immediate end to the ongoing atrocities against innocent civilians. It is for these reasons, we have decided to postpone the 2023 Palestinian Film Festival Australia.

In an effort to promote an increased understanding of what is happening in Occupied Palestine, the Palestinian Film Festival Australia is making two documentaries, 1948: Creation & Catastrophe and Gaza, screened at previous Palestinian film festivals freely available for all Australians to see.

1948: Creation and Catastrophe by Andy Trimlett and Ahlam Muhtaseb.

Through moving personal recollections of both Palestinians and Israelis, 1948: Creation and Catastrophe reveals the shocking events of the most pivotal year in the most controversial conflict in the world.

Gaza by Garry Keane and Andrew McConnell.

A portrait of a people attempting to lead meaningful lives against the rubble of perennial conflict and going beyond the reach of television news reports to reveal a world rich with eloquent and resilient characters.

      I watched each to the end. 7/10.

      I went in with a slightly closed mind, hoping to learn, but expecting that they would probably be propaganda and I'd stop watching fairly quickly.

      I learned interesting history from the 1948 film and I saw a lot of regular people in the Gaza film. It was from the Palestinian "side" so most people were trying to live good lives and improve themselves. But not all.

      These films are not for everyone and thankfully in this free country of Australia no-one is forced to watch.

      "1948" is watchable but I found "Gaza" quite interesting. This is of course just my opinion. YMMV

    I'm very much pro-palestine and anti-israeli occupation. But I fail to see how this qualifies as a bargain.

    I'm siding with the Palestinian people on this one (not the hummus terrorists), but I can't believe the number of NPCs calling for mods to ban this topic for discussion and are pro-censorship.

    Without freedom of speech, we risk becoming a police state like communist China/North Korea. Or are those pro-censorship sheeples also in favour of jailing fellow Aussie whistle-blower Julian Assange simply for exposing the war crimes of the US military in Iraq and Afghanistan? The US stopped being a member of the International Criminal Court to save itself from being called a war criminal after being exposed by Julian Assange.

      First of all, this is a privately owned public space. So site owners and maintainers reserve the right to limit any content by whatever rules they desire to apply here as long as the content isn't illegal by Australian laws.

      Secondly, it is not against freedom of speech to ask to ban a certain topic of discussion in a privately owned public space and the actual action of doing so is exercising the right for freedom of speech.

    I wonder how many people who attended the recent pro Palestine protests would have protested the deaths of the Israelis in the initial attack, had Israel not retaliated?

    These people say they are deeply concerned about innocents being killed.

      The other side will be saying the same about you and they'd have the exact same "betting" odds. "I wonder how many people who rallied in support of the Israeli civilians after the attack would have also showed support for the Palestinian civilians who are now also being murdered by their thousands."
