The 2023 Palestinian Film Festival Australia has been postponed, and two documentaries from previous years have been made free to stream.

From their website:

The continuing crisis in Occupied Palestine is heartbreaking. Our thoughts, prayers and love are with the innocent and vulnerable people caught up in this latest war. This is not the time to hold a film festival. It is time to mourn the dead, pay our respects to those suffering and work together to bring an immediate end to the ongoing atrocities against innocent civilians. It is for these reasons, we have decided to postpone the 2023 Palestinian Film Festival Australia.

In an effort to promote an increased understanding of what is happening in Occupied Palestine, the Palestinian Film Festival Australia is making two documentaries, 1948: Creation & Catastrophe and Gaza, screened at previous Palestinian film festivals freely available for all Australians to see.

1948: Creation and Catastrophe by Andy Trimlett and Ahlam Muhtaseb.

Through moving personal recollections of both Palestinians and Israelis, 1948: Creation and Catastrophe reveals the shocking events of the most pivotal year in the most controversial conflict in the world.

Gaza by Garry Keane and Andrew McConnell.

A portrait of a people attempting to lead meaningful lives against the rubble of perennial conflict and going beyond the reach of television news reports to reveal a world rich with eloquent and resilient characters.

      In 1948 when UN said you should create 2 countries - Israel and Palestine.
      Israel said ok and been created, Palestine said - NO, we dont agree, and refused to create a country within provided borders.
      There are no internationally recognized borders for Palestine, yet they somehow claim its jews fault…

      Only in 1988 - 40 years later - some countries started to recognize Palestine and UN proposed borders of 1967 (why not 1948 ?); however, after a number of wars, Israel refused saying those borders could not be protected.

      FYI, Palestine is not recognized by Australia, USA, Canada, most of EU. Shall Australia recognize itself as a terrorist then? Technically its against UN decision…

      You can't really stop politics being discussed in a forum with so many people and different opinions. The definition of politics is hazy at best and would be too hard to enforce (or it'd end up like Whirlpool where anything mods disagree with is taken down). Having the mods' unwritten biases favouring one group of views over another would create more division or a hivemind, neither of which would be good in my opinion

    Few facts (putting my point of view in public):

    • Hamas is a terrorist organisation
    • IDF is a terrorist organisation
    • Arabs are naturally aggressive and can't bear a jew nation in Middle East
    • In response to that, Jews has also gone aggressive and believe every Arab is terrorist

    They both will keep fighting until the end.

    EDIT: I feel sorry for all the innocent people dying in this conflict. Perhaps, they should move on to their neighboring countries and start their life again. That's what I would do.

      Facts? Every Israeli is forced to join IDF at 18 years old. They are not terrorists, they are just normal people like you and me. My brother got called up to fight in this conflict, he has a wife, 4 young kids and just finished building a house. He is not a terrorist. Also not every jew thinks arabs are terrorists, their views are just as varied as those on this site. Stop talking shit mate.

          Hamas initially started as an activist group supported by the Israeli government for its perceived moderation. In their last election in 2006, Palestinians voted for Hamas due to its social services and resistance efforts, as they saw their opposition (Fatah) as corrupt and ineffective.

          While desperation can lead to unexpected government choices (as also seen in the Philippines with Duterte), a country's politics shouldn't justify harm against its citizens. That way of thinking is what caused this latest incident in the first place.

    Stop spreading their propaganda and lies for them. They weren't "occupied" and Israel would like nothing better than to wash their hands of them.
