If you are looking for a unique statement piece to brighten up your home or office, we have a great deal on the iconic Artemide Nesso table lamp, designed by Giancarlo Mattioli in the 1960s and featured in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

The Nesso lamp is a masterpiece of Italian design, with its expressive form inspired by nature and its innovative use of thermoplastic resin - an innovative technique when the lamp was first introduced in 1967. This is an authentic and original product from Artemide, one of the world's leading lighting brands.

Holy Hooly Dooly Batman! Very costly for a plastic lamp. I don't understand why this is so expensive. Can you please explain why?

    • +3

      It's "premium" plastic :-)

    • Artemide makes some nice designer lamps (I have a couple of their Tolomeo Micros as bedside lamps). However, as with all things 'designer', it's a game of 'think of a price tag and add a zero at the end'…

    • It's less about the materials - it's about the design.
This is a classic piece of mid century italian design.

If you don't value "design" that's ok, but know the cost comes in the value of "design".
Design here is Giancarlo Mattioli, mid century italian.

The "design" is available at 1/10 the price. Similar to what happens with pharmaceuticals when the copyright/patent expires.

    • Yup - although my experience in importing Artemide stuff is that you'll need an EU/AU plug adapter. Which costs $10.

      • I can confirm our lamps are supplied with AU plug :)

        • +1

Nice. The plug converter was the deal breaker for me. Thank O.P.

One tenth of the price from Aliexpress for something functionally the same. The specific branded one is cheaper elsewhere.

Won’t buy even at that price, if it’s $5 then maybe, can’t get the design either :/

    • This Nesso is an authentic and original product from Artemide and is not a cheap replica or knock-off, but a genuine and quality product that will last for years.

Hi @StylecraftOUTLET, The link that I have posted seems to be selling the "authentic" one. Why is your's pricier?

        • @croccer I can't comment on their authenticity or whether the item they are selling is new stock. I can see that they are located in Italy.

          • @StylecraftOUTLET: @StylecraftOUTLET Does your store have something to show the authenticity of the item? I am really interested. May be you should prove your authenticity instead of downvoting me.

        • -1

that aliexpress link is absolutely not "authentic".
Please comment when you actually understand something about design.
Instead you've just brought your hate boner to the comment section. I hope you sleep well at night.

If you're keeping this indoor lamp indoors, plastic is plastic.

Maybe, just maybe, the electrical components are better in the Artemide. But there's no way (I'm guessing) an LED socket is worth $450 more.

    • Are we trusting AliExpress quality today? I thought that was Sundays and Tuesdays.

  • +4

You're on the wrong website to advertise ugly, overpriced, plastic lamps mate

    • +1

A true original will cost a lot more: https://ebay.com.au/itm/125964890131

But if I were to buy a modern reproduction, I think I choose Aliexpress.

    • But how else with I get light exposure on my taint??

    • White seems to be available for $297 too. https://royaldesign.com/au/nessino-table-lamp?p=303871
Clearly much much cheaper. Seems authentic too. No more authentic than the one that's posted in the deal.

Royal Design is legit. Used it many times for Scandinavian designer stuff

        • Thanks @JutakuHome

This is the light which Gordon uses to call the Batman ? Why is it so expensive

  • +1

Seems like a good lamp. I'd buy it if it were a bit cheaper, maybe ~ $470 cheaper. Based on the comments, it looks like the price of the lamp is all over the place, too. I'll let the price settle down to $60 before purchasing.

The constant image of a nuclear mushroom cloud is not an ideal "statement piece" in the current state.

  • I agree that it's way too expensive, but if this was Channel clothes, Jimmy Choo shoes, a Rolex watch or any other pretentious brand, the downvoters would feel the wrath of Ozbargain.

So why is it allowed here, just because this brand isn't as well known?

Or perhaps the question should be: Why isn't it allowed for other brands that clearly can't justify their price either?

    • I can only talk about this post. I appreciate your perspective. Premium brands often carry price tags that seem hard to justify. In the case of more established luxury brands like Chanel or Rolex, their high prices stem from years of building prestige and exclusivity. This lamp, while iconic, simply doesn't have that kind of widespread brand recognition. For most people, the Artemide name doesn't conjure images of luxury in the same way as Chanel or Rolex. While the lamp's design is certainly good, without the cachet of an iconic luxury brand, the high price tag is harder to rationalize. Perhaps if Artemide wants to command these premium prices, they need to elevate their brand profile first. That said, for serious design aficionados who recognize the lamp's heritage, the price may be worthwhile. But for the average consumer, it's hard to justify spending so much when the brand lacks the prestige of the true luxury names.

  • Thanks OP, picked up 7

My first post. Didn't expect to comment, honestly. But this is a bargain site. We are frugal people. We won't buy a $500 lamp even though it's 40% discount. I'm sorry.

Edit: Too bad I can't neg the bargain.

  • bagel lamp

  • This lamp under discount costs more than my bed
