ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 15.6" 165hz QHD, R9 6900HS, 32GB DDR5, 1TB RTX 3080 $2599 + Delivery ($0 SYD C&C) @ Mwave

280

Seems like a decent deal on a well reviewed RTX 3080 laptop from last year. It’s only a 120W tgp so you won’t get full performance but thats the comprise to get a thinner lighter machine.

typing on one right now, great laptop (if you replace the wifi card 🙄)

Atleast you can do this. Some companies such as Lenovo have started to solder the wifi card along with the memory onto the motherboard.

yea thats terrible, framework laptop is next for me 😂

Which Lenovo models? My Legion Slim 5 14" has a socketed card.

        • I checked online and it only seems to be ThinkPads which I feel like is strange as they are more oriented to customers who would actually replace the cards. Also seems to only be Intel cards which could explain why it affects mostly ThinkPads. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000… Still doesn't make sense why they would solder it down instead of using the modular versions of these cards (except for greed ofc).

@iPodVideo: Speaking to reps over the past year or so about it, expect to see this implemented over most their models.

Lenovo claim they solder the memory and Wifi down to save space and slim the device more but this is nonsense in my opinion. It’s the best way they can stop you purchasing lower spec devices and ordering upgrades elsewhere. It also forces you to only go through them for warranty after the 12 month period has ended. Its greed for sure.

            • @siggy213: Probably gonna be an issue in most laptops not just cheaper Lenovos in the near future sadly :(
Hopefully Framework can garner some more mainstream attention and right to repair laws can come in place to prevent companies from doing anti-consumer things like this.

  • How does that compare to the legion lenovo?

    • Less performance and runs hotter and louder. Fantastic battery life and you're really paying for the form factor as it's really portable and aesthetically more professional.

      • Thank you. I know that aesthetics matter but if performance sucks the laptop is only a fancy paperweight

  • Booked my Zephyrus bought from Amazon for a warranty call, was shocked to find out that a laptop at this price tag only has a 2yr warranty which I'm 6 months over. Something to keep in mind.
Edit - gave my serial to Asus support who conifrmed the GA520 only has a 1 yr warranty (for a $2500 laptop)

I had a similar case with Acer. It took ages to resolve but I said under ACL I'd expect a machine worth >$2000 to last over 2 years (though the problem my laptop had started developing prior to that)

only has a 1 yr warranty (for a $2500 laptop)

Higher price ≠ longer warranty period

Consumer laptops typically come with a standard 1 or 2-year warranty. Extended warranties of 3 years or longer are available for an additional cost.

In addition to the manufacturer's warranty, you have the option to make a claim under the ACL, falling under the 'Consumer Guarantees' category. This can extend beyond the manufacturer's warranty. The duration is not clearly defined and, instead, depends on what would be considered reasonable, taking into account the cost and quality of the item.

    • it is usually 1 year

  • I got the intel version of this with 4070 recently from JBs, they do run really hot with the gaming laptops. I am getting this cooler hopefully it will improve the thermals https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JGmkgOetnw

    • Probably due to Intel H Series not being very good IMO. Intel doesn't really make sense on Slimmer laptops like this one.

  • Worth getting the newer g16 with a 4070 for $400 more?

    • +2

      $3,000 for a 8GB RTX 4070 is pushing it a bit imo…

      • +1

Yeah i do agree with that, really think 8gb vram will be very limiting

  • Clicked the link and its not the price….

    • Think they just sold out

  • Well its gone now but i have this laptop its great, its light enough and has the power to run all games

the screen look really good imo as well, gets bright enough.

  • I got the Zephyrus G15 15.6" 5800H 2060 240Hz screen. Its a nice light laptop with a nice screen.
I did have issue with the screen a few months later, screen went black and won't turn on. Had a screen replacement. Asus support is alright.
