Will wait until it comes down to sub 400/-

  • Anyone know if JB price matches Bose?

I've got a GC there that I'd like to use

    • Can't see why they wouldn't, considering they do have physical stores.

    • +2

Yes they do, I jumped online and got them to price match,
      Just picked up in store

      • +1

hey can you do some quick bullet points on how to do that? I've never done price match at jb let alone online, thanks

        • +22

          Sure.
Basically jump on JB's website, you will see the "help" option in the bottom left of the screen,

Click on that and type in "live chat"

Once connected tell the person on chat you would like to price match the product and stick this link in the chat
          https://www.myer.com.au/p/bose--174-quietcomfort-ultra-headp…

They will then send you a link to purchase with the new price, the link expires at Mid Night.

          • +3

            @whipsy77: love it. thanks mate

          • @whipsy77: This worked for me. Matched it 1:1 and gave me a cart link for 24hrs to buy. Just bought it!
Reason I decided to get it matched was just for the click & collect and my nearest Myers sold out physical stock.
JB had it though - could've also just ordered/matched in person but less hassle to just go and collect.

    • You should be able to check on live chat on the JB site. A good call if you still have those 15% off ultimate gc's

  • This or Sony XM5?

    • I've have to try the Ultra for the NC whine, as I always felt the QC35 and 45 had it, but it does fold which is a major selling point for me.

      • +13

As much as I don't want to say this, the noise-cancelling whine could potentially be mild tinnitus.

        • While you're potentially not wrong with your comment, I have a QC45 and it does have a minor background white noise that I didn't feel with in ears Galaxy Buds 2 and Sony WF-1000XM3/4 and AKG N700NC M2. It is really quiet though, I only hear it when the volume is around 5-10% or when nothing is playing and the environment is already quiet

    • I just returned the xm5

Really not happy. It's a downgrade from the XM4, and I will die on the hill that those who don't realize it are just not very fussed about around sound quality and performance.

  • +9

Shut up and take my kidney

    • here you are sir, 40 pairs

      • Quietly, I want 45. Make sure they're comfy tho.

  • +2

How does the ultra compare to the NC700

  • +1

Interesting how they brought back the old design of the QC35. I always did prefer those over the 700s

    • +2

They never got rid of the design, they're just a different line from the 700s. The QC45 have the same design as the QC35. These Ultras are a little different, the part that connects the earcup to the headband is different from the previous two.

      • +2

These are the replacement for the 700s so it looks like they abandoned that design and went back to a QC35/45-style design.

        • The QC45 was released after the 700, so I think they abandonded that design long ago. Wasn't particularly well received either at the time.

          • @Mr Fusi0n: One would expect the QC45 to look like the QC35 since they're the same line though.

The 700 is their more premium line based on a new platform they developed because they said they had reached the limit of what they could do with the 2003-era platform that the QC35/45 is based on.

So it was a surprise when their new premium line went back to the old styling so quickly.

  • Got it PM with JBs. Thanks Op.

  • I imagine CashRewards 1.7% would apply. That's about $8.54 cashback.

  • +4

If you own a 45 or 700, consider skipping the ultra.

    something to read

    • +1

Yes it doesn't look like a huuuge upgrade, but also check out other reviews by people who didn't just try it in a store. :)

      If you're coming from a QC35 it's a much more compelling upgrade I think.

  • Hasn't these just been released?

  • +6

My QC35s II are indestructible. I reckon all these touch features are bound to break eventually. Give me buttons any day!

    • +1

Totally agree. Hope mine last forever. Wife just bought a used pair of qc35 on my recommendation which for barely $100 wins

    • +2

      Yeah, mine are going strong.

I actually reckon they're a near-perfect product - they completely nailed the brief. The only thing I was uncertain about was the audio quality (Bose have a pretty poor reputation in this area), but it turns out they actually sound great.

When mine die, I'd want to replace them with another pair but with two changes:

      • USB-C charging
      • Updated Bluetooth chipset
      • Can you elaborate? Have they updated the QC35s with those features, or are you going for something new?

Right now, I'm buying a new pair of QC35s the day my current ones break.

        • +1

That's just my wishlist if they ever released an updated version. Wouldn't change anything else.

        • problem is the connectivity is not great on the QC35s when compared to sony's or newer QCs (apparently) and they are microUSB. Everything else about them is perfect

    • Yeah same! Been using mine since 2017 and they are just not stopping, had to change the earpads a couple of times that's it!

  • +1

I have the Nc700.. I bought it with the transparent mode.. then they killed it, got rid of the whole department.
removed the functionality with a firmware upgrade without even asking (my fault for not checking before clicking the update button!)

now they come back with a new headphone with
    Aware Mode
Want the best of both worlds? Hear your music and surroundings with full transparency.

I'm not buying BOSE again… bring back transparency mode on NC700! … what the!

    • +1

      … what the!

      rove… is that you?

      • LOL

    • Andrew is that you ?

    • The 700s do have transparency (mine still does on 1.8.2). You just have to set the noise cancelling to 0.

  • +1

Are the QCs the QC 45s?

    • No, theyre the successors.

      From bose website

Bose QuietComfort Headphones are the successors to QuietComfort 45 Headphones. QuietComfort Ultra Headphones offer our most premium design and our most advanced technologies, for the best Bose listening experience in a headphone. • +1

There were no observable upgrades for the new QCs and Ultras. The Ultra uses the same driver as the NC700 and there is no bump in sound quality between the QC and QC45. Not even high res codecs, nothing. I love the comfort of the Bose QC45, but I the only good thing about Bose recently is their TikTok channel. Removing features through firmware, releasing what looks like it's literally the same product…

    • yupe… do not buy Bose.. unless they get their act together!..

    • There were no observable upgrades for the new QCs and Ultras.

Have you watched or read any reviews?

  • I just got jb chat to lower the price of the xm4s to 383 but now I'm tempted to get these ultras

Anyone recommend ultra over the xm4? I wasn't a fan of the xm5 fit

  • great deal for headphones just released; I ordered from JB will see if they can price match

  • If it ain't cleaning your earwax, it ain't worth it.

Edit: Just saw this after a quick google of the headphone. lol

Why anyone would get these over sony xm5 is beyond me.

    • +2

I've been using the QC35 for years. I bought the XM5 a few months ago and found them uncomfortable; my ears would get sweaty after extended use. I never experienced it to that extent with the QC35. When I have both of them on my desk I find that I reach for the old QC35 a lot more than the XM5.

That's why I decided to try these next. The XM5 didn't work for me.

Of course fit and comfort is subjective so what didn't work for me might be totally fine for others.

    • The XM5's don't allow you to set the level of noise cancelling, which can be a massive punish if you're a glasses wearer like me and the seal along the side of the cups don't completely seal!

I travel a lot for work, wear glasses, and fly on smaller planes with propeller engines, and the XM5's noise cancelling always tries to adjust itself from the highest level to the lowest.

In other words, I can hear the propellers for about a second, then the ANC kicks in and reduces the sound, but then adjusts to a lower level and I can hear them again!

Other than that, they're great… but that defeats the purpose for me and I'm seriously considering switching back to my XM3s or to Bose.

    • One word: comfort.

    • I sold my XM5. Headband didn't do a good job, very loose. And the cans are very long and I didn't like the touch controls. Plus the bag to store them in was huge, since they don't fold up.

  • I have tried on this at my local JB last weekend.. super amazingly comfy

    • which one, ultra or qc

      • Tried both, ultra is expensive but worth it I guess if you have got enough money to spend

  • No stock of either colour in QC Ultra

    • Hmm, it still lets me add either colour to cart and checkout.

      • I am in WA and its saying insufficient stock when checking out. Tested with a QLD address and works fine. Managed to get a price match with JB and picked them up anyway. Thanks op

  • Thanks for the post OP! which colour do you guys recommend? Black or white :/

    • +1

I recommend black for people who like black headphones.

On the other hand, I recommend white for people who like white headphones. :)

Black hides dirt but shows fingerprints. White hides fingerprints but shows dirt. I guess it depends on which you prefer.

      • LOL, good points purely for the premium look. I'm in two minds. Both have their pros and cons, but I guess black lasts longer with no colour-fading in-ear cushions on the other hand white looks premium to my eyes :'(

        • +2

Endedup getting the white one 😅.

  • Ah, how i wish i could upgrade my blue qc35ii's but now my hyperacusis and tinnitus makes music listening impossible. I'm envious of you all. Enjoy and cherish your hearing.

  • Conflicted, these or wait for the AirPods Max 2 next year. hmmm…

edit: 3.5mm connection might come in handy. Screw it, ordering! yolo!

    • That's the spirit! Just wondering what colour did you get?

      • I went with Smoke! I'm still stoked I picked up a pair before they sold out, that was a really good discount. Will arrive tomorrow!

  • Purchased from JB full price a couple of days ago, oops. Figured there wouldn't be a discount in a while as they are brand new.

    • Yeah same! No where else is selling them at that price, I wonder if I was a pricing error?

  • +1

JB Moore Park price matched Bose corporate discount (25% off). I got the Ultra from them yesterday for $486

    • +1

can you share how please? I will definately bite at that price

      • I inboxed you

    • Dearest wildmx, buddy pal 😅! May I also please request how you got that discount and price!? 🙏

      • let me know if you have any luck, I jsut tried wildmx's suggestion and it didn't work :(

      • Did you get my PM?

    • +1

Would you mind also sharing your process with me please?

    • Dear wildmx, would you mind sharing the receipt with me? I will definitely price match it at my local store : )

      • I can't inbox you

        • I think it’s working now

  • There's a 10% bonus on myer giftcards in woolworths.

  • +1

I'm still rocking my original QC35 pair. Is there anything that comes close to topping those these days? From the comparison tool on Rtings it seems like pretty much every modern pair is a downgrade in some capacity (sound, ANC, etc.).

I would be keen for some better battery life and getting rid of that micro USB though…

    • I have the same question. If these are still great is there any point looking further?

    • +1

I'm still rocking my original QC35 pair. Is there anything that comes close to topping those these days? From the comparison tool on Rtings it seems like pretty much every modern pair is a downgrade in some capacity (sound, ANC, etc.).

I've been using my original QC35 for years too. I recently tried the Sony WF1000XM5 and found the noise cancelling much better than the QC35, but found it less comfortable.

From the reviews I've read the QC45 has noticeably better ANC than the QC35, and the Ultras slightly better than the QC45. So the Ultras should be a good amount better than the aging QC35.

The QC35 was excellent for its time but it definitely has been topped by at least the QC45.

      • Yeah I dunno, maybe I'm overthinking the numbers a bit but the QC45 seems like diminished audio quality from the original QC35s in most categories according to
        https://www.rtings.com/headphones/tools/compare/bose-quietco…

Seems like the current equation is you get either better ANC and battery life from the new models, or better audio from the old models.

  • I am using qc35 ii and love it, the only complaint is no option to set no NC by default (so every time I turn them on I have to double click NC button)
so do these new models have that option ?

  • Oh shoot missed this one, Can anyone please share their JB Hi-Fi receipts for those who missed out, will try if they'll honour the price tomorrow, thanks?
