Yes, a headphone amp. I mixed up DAC and headphone amp.
Depends on the audio source. For many of us these days it would definitely be a DAC.
I tested them with the Sennheiser DAC but thought the combo was to strident. They rocked with the old Oppo.

I don’t make the rules, youth allowance rate is neigh unliveable for most younger folks unless they have a steady part time job or parents support.
Focal Clear for $799 was the real deal
Hard to recommend focal when they have the worst after sales support in the market, especially after their local distributor is gone (a2a)
I nabbed the clear at 799 and sold them, I personally actually prefer the HD600 over this and the clear for vocal timbre etc, the Focals are a bit metallic sounding.
HD800S disregard tuning for technical performance and extremely wide soundstage, so its a completely different experience - the Clears feel like (better tuned) closed backs in comparison.
The one point where you would get the clears is if you were a basshead - some of the best over ear bass you can get.
Also, these are significnatly more comfortable - I couldn't wear the clears for more than an hour or two, can wear these forever.

Sennheiser eBay has this advertised for $1799, which is roughly the price before it got crazily jacked up to $3100.
I got $120 discount from a voucher.I can't seem to get the coupon to stick. It goes down to 1439 but then reverts back to 1599 after the honey extension finishes. Quite a bit perplexed.
Happened for me too. Got around that problem somehow by starting a private browser session, opening the Sennheiser store first, adding any random item (doesn't matter, you'll be removing it from the cart anyway), click checkout, add the honey coupon, and after all that, follow the UNiDAYS link. I then added the HD 800S to the cart, removed the earlier item, and the coupon stuck this time. Can confirm that the order went through, and I've been charged the correct amount.

That's the correct base price, you then need to use the Honey hack to force the website to apply the 10% coupon into the cart to make it $1439.10. However it's quite temperamental so might need to follow this comment to get it to apply correctly.
@seerious: Alright I figured out how to do it, but need to use the Inspect Element tool on desktop to be able to change the properties and allow the coupon as it's set as hidden in the code, it's probably not achievable on mobile unless you can Inspect Element on the website.
- In the student website, add the headphones to cart and go to the checkout page.
- Right click on the page and go Inspect / Inspect Elements and the elements page will pop-up.
- Search for "order-summary__section—discount" in here and it will find it in the code.
- Replace display: none with display: all
The coupon code section will appear and can then apply the coupon for 10% off :)
@doweyy: How the hell do I actually edit it, I've tried several browsers and can't change the values.
@Mael5trom: Just double click on the "none" value and it should be modifiable, then just delete it and type all. That should work correctly.

That's true like 20 years ago. Back then the HD600/650 was Sennheiser's flagship. Paying $5k for a headphone back then would have been unthinkable, yet that's the norm these days.
They give you an option to test it for 30 days money back guarantee, I am thinking to compare HD800 and HD800s and then make a decision. What do you guys think?
