What’s the peak brightness on this?

It’s worth noting that the TCL C745 98” is cheaper at $5668 -$1000 cashback. It was $5200 early last week, too.

    • 2" smaller

Peak brightness not listed on the Hisense web site

    • +4

What is this? A TV for ants? It must be at least 2" bigger.

    • +7

Isn't it effectively $3710 ($4710 minus $1000 cashback when using code EXTRA20, plus bonus local delivery & wall mount installation)?

      https://www.harveynorman.com.au/tcl-98-inch-c745-4k-premium-…

Mate that’s a kicker deal. You should post that. I’ll grab one.

        • +1

Feel free to post it up - I'm too busy doing the sums to justify it lol ;)

        • +1

          Isn't this 1k visa + 1k cashback +20% discount? Or 1k visa is 1k cashback?

          • +2

@MrHouseMD: it looks to me like the $1000 visa is the TCL cash back

"Bonus $1000 Digital Visa Gift Card Via Redemption + Bonus Local Delivery & Wall Mount Installation"

            T's and C's:
"Offer is valid from 1 October 2023 to 11:59pm AEDT 31 October 2023. Bonus is via redemption from the supplier. Terms and Conditions apply. See details at: www.tclpromotions.com.au"

      • Might be able to lose wall installation but save $500 and get effective price down to $3210 on the TCL 98C745 if you price match HN's 20% off at Appliances Online who have $500 instant cash off which might stack (in a deal on another model wolfjay was able to stack price match with instant cash off)

    • The TCL isn't Quantum Dot or Mini-LED either….

But it does have Google OS

      • The C745 is quantum dot.
        https://www.tcl.com/au/en/tvs/98c745

        • Yes - I stand corrected.

But not mini LED and half the peak brightness…

          • @TheCandyMan2020: What’s the peak brightness of this Hisense? I can’t find it?

            • @Broos: 1000 nits - but actual performance likely to be less

              https://cybershack.com.au/reviews/hisense-u7kau-2023-mini-le…

              • @TheCandyMan2020: You must be a huge Hisense fan to mess up the TCL specs so much. The C745 has 1000 nits.

                • @Broos: I am only going on TCL's own web site which you linked to:

                  https://www.tcl.com/au/en/tvs/98c745

                  Brightness = 500 nits….

The brightness for the TCL varies on the size of the unit you are buying - some are as low as 450 nits, others 550 - but none close to 1000 according to your own link…

I am a fan of Hisense due to having owned 2 of their TV's and having been super happy with them both for the price paid. My current TV is a top end Sony and it isnt as good as my last Hisense as far as brightness and picture quality are concerned - the Sony cost twice as much for the same size.

The only time I had to deal with Hisense warranty wise they were absolutely fantastic. I wish my experience with Lenovo PC warranty was the same…..

  • The main problem I see with this TV is VIDAA OS….

    • +9

Apple TV, Fire TV, Nvidia Shield etc…

      • I know, but if I'm spending $5k on a TV I would want it to work without having to use another product to input into it….

        • +6

Regardless I would bypass the OS and just use the best streaming box/dongle because they get the best support.

      • Even if you aren't using the in-built apps the buggy OS still finds its way in to make your life worse. My U8G constantly needs to have motion smoothing toggled off because it keeps turning itself back on every time the TV is turned on

Dropping this much on a hisense tv just doesnt make sense to me. Even for a 100 inch.

    • +1

Have you ever owned one of their top range sets?

I have and absolutely no complaints.

I'd rather drop this amount on a Hisense than a TCL….

      • +7

TCL is (normally) better bang for the buck imo. Their c845 is reviewed much better than this model Hisense

      • +7

The AU Hisense models have typically been the lesser-reviewed, worse-performing variants compared to the US lines

      • +4

Their track record of dishonest model number labelling means they have lost trust with a lot of people in Aus.

      • What's wrong with TCL? Why shilling for Hisense?

        • +1

Good experiences with Hisense in the past.

          TCL not so good.

  • Yep avoid hisense tvs if possible. Either go for smaller tv from big brand OR go for laser short throw projector if you want screens 85" or more

    • +1

Exactly what I was thinking about short throw projector.
I wish I could justify buying one now, but unfortunately I have to wait for my current one to bust first.

But whenever that may be, when I'm in need of another TV, it certainly won't be a monster size box on the wall but a short throw projector instead sitting on a small stand and my soundbar connected to it.
Much, much tidier look abd the picture quality is still really good.

      • Especially if you buy a good projector screen, most people find good sellers on AliExpress selling the special light refracting ones that cost like $700 or more. Expensive but required if you want a good image. Some half decent short throws even from Hisense go on special for $2k mark.

Just look into distance from wall it needs to be as not suitable for everyone being like 30cm out from the wall (and the unit itself being deeeeep)

Goodguys has pricematched and has cash rewards:

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/hisense-100-inches-u7kau-4k-u…

Just bought one, amazing price for a 100" miniled.

    • 7% cash rewards sweetens the deal.

For a 100" mini LED this is a very cheap price.

  • +1

In terms of the specs of this model, I think it's this:
    https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/77633522
Same weight and dimensions as our model.
I asked Hisense au support and they also said it was 1600+ dimming zones and 1500+ nits brightness, which matches.

I've purchased one for a new house so will have to delay delivery till December. Would be great if someone could confirm the specs when they receive it, quite easy to do a dimming zone test via YouTube.
