    this or Sony x90L / Bravia 3?

    • +8

The X90L specs/tech is really outdated compared to last year's C855, let alone this 2025 model.

I'd encourage you to look in store and come to your own conclusion. To me, the TCL 2024 was clearly superior, and I expect the 2025 to be just as good, if not better.

      • I went to Good Guys and even the Sony Mini LEDs looked horrible, thay mustn't have had them calibrated properly

    • lol TCL by a mile

    • between Sony x90L / Bravia 3 TCL C7k is way better. looking at some reviews c7k seem to have little more issue with quality than c6k.

is this the C855 or C755 successor?

    • Thought C8K would be the 8 series successor? So this would be for the 7?

    • +2

      C755

    • 755 successor

    Is it a bargain but?

  • I need a deal on the c8k!

  • +1

Bought the 85C755 from JB Hi-fi for $2150 including delivery over the weekend. Any reason why I should bought this over that? Native 144Hz, newer matte panel and more dimming zones seem to be the upgrades.

    • +1

      Higher peak brightness
      B&O speakers

    • -1

How about enjoy the tv you just bought instead of comparing it to this and that. What's the point

      • +2

The only reason is it's not delivered yet and no idea when it's going to be delivered as well.

    • How did you get that price? Care to share your receipt?

      • There was a one day offer for that. Can share the receipt later.

      • Here is the link
        Try your luck :)

        • Thanks 👍

Does this seem right to you?
      from AI
The TCL 85C755 and the TCL 85" C7K Premium QD-MiniLED TV are both 85-inch TVs from TCL, but the C7K utilizes a QD-MiniLED display, which is a newer and generally more advanced technology. The C7K offers improved brightness, contrast, and color accuracy compared to the standard 85C755.
      Here's a more detailed comparison:
      TCL 85C755:

Display Technology: Likely a standard QLED or LED display.
Expected Features: Might offer features like a full-array backlight, HDR support, and good color accuracy.
Strengths: Potentially a more affordable option with a good balance of features.

      TCL 85" C7K Premium QD-MiniLED TV:

      Display Technology:
Uses QD-MiniLED technology, which combines Quantum Dot (QLED) technology with Mini LED backlighting.

      Expected Features:
Offers improved brightness, contrast, and color accuracy due to the QD-MiniLED display. It also likely has features like HDR, VRR, and gaming modes.
      Strengths:
Better picture quality, especially in bright environments, due to the QD-MiniLED technology. It's also likely to have better gaming features like lower input lag and support for VRR.

      In Summary:
The C7K is generally considered a higher-end model due to its QD-MiniLED display, offering a better picture quality overall, especially in brightness and contrast, but it might come at a higher price point. The 85C755 might be a more budget-friendly option with good picture quality, but it may not have the same level of brightness and contrast as the C7K

I would not use AI for that at all because it got its entire crux of its argument wrong.

They are both QD-MiniLED displays. Primary difference is peak brightness and maybe dimming zones.

The 85C755 has 880 local dimming zones / 1500 nits peak brightness. I can't find the dimming zones on the C7K (Just says the max for the range), but 3000 nits of peak brightness.

        • +1

          Not sure if for Aus

          C7K "miniLED zone dimming (336, 720, 1008, 1248, 1568, 2048, 2880 zones in 50, 55, 65, 75, 85, 98, 115"), up to 3000 nits"

          • +1

@tm8ate: Looking at it, the Aussie page says up to 2048 Zones until you get to the 115" where it goes to 2880, meaning this is likely accurate. Means this TV has basically twice the dimming zones which is going to help HDR a lot.

      • Did the same. But as the other commenter said, can't really trust a generative AI to give me an accurate answer.

        • AI can definitely do comparisons like this incorporating correct sources but you need to use the right tools. Free ChatGPT is pretty useless for this kind of thing.

Something like Deep Research - I would recommend the Google Gemini 2.5 Pro version, alas these are trapped behind paywalls.

    • 85c755 was going for 1870 with delivery several weeks ago at appliances central

      • Yeah, that was open box, from memory. Was waiting for 85C855 to on sale. But missed it.

    • That's a $680 difference. I wouldn't even entertain the idea of purchasing this instead of the C755.

      • I intend to use this for 8-10 years if it lasts. So, can make up my mind if this is significantly better. Seems not. Have been using this TV from Target for 6.5 years now.

  • I have the 55" version of this. It's fantastic.

  • is the C8K coming to Australia? Cant see it at any retailers here

  • Grandfather paid $3400 at TGG a week or two ago. Probably shit out of luck price matching now.

    • Credit card price protection

    • You can't price match after you've purchased an item. The only way around this is to return the unused item and repurchase at the cheaper price. Unfortunately, it's not that easy with an 85" TV. In any event, I'm assuming it's already been setup.

  • Can anyone with experience with mini LED (namely C855 or C7K, C8K) and OLED (C4, G4, G5) share their thoughts?
I’m in the market for a 75” or 77”, TV will mostly be used in a dark room for physical media and some PS5.
I’m looking at the C4 for ~$3800 but the new G5 is tempting with tandem and 5 yrs panel warranty, albeit at a huge premium (say $5700 if it comes back to that price at some point). Any input welcomed.
P/s: upgrading from 11yo edge-lit Samsung and probably won’t be upgrading for a while so hoping to future proof within reasons as well.

    • +2

Anything you get is going to be miles better than your current TV. So you need to decide on whether you want picture quality or value.

You can't beat OLED in a dark room for picture quality and gaming features. If you're considering a G5, then budget doesnt sound like an issue to you - so prob just get the G5 (or C4 if it pops up again on special). If you're not a videophile and you just want a great picture at a good price, get a C855 (if you still can) or the C7K/C8K for 2025.

    • +1

I’m an owner of a 98” c755 and 55” LG C1. Not quite the models you listed.

But if you hunting for a 75/77 inch tv then the LG G5 is your top choice going by your 11 year old Samsung tv history. You get the best quality picture and the drawbacks of oled has been mostly fixed with great software.

      • Once I got the 85c755, I got rid of my 65c1. The size advantage far outweighs the slight improvement in pq, unless you have them side by side I don’t think the pq difference is a big deal.

        • Don’t know how the tcl c8k improve as I haven’t seen one in person but nothing beat oled at 70’s inch size. In a dark room oled is fine to use.

On my mini led c755 I still see crushed grey black and small blooming on whites next to dark colours. Still enjoyable due to the immersive big display.

    • +3

I have both Mini LED and OLED in my house. The one thing I have learned is that not matter how bright an LED can get, it has nothing on the infinite contrast ratio of an OLED panel. Considering it'll be in a dark room, don't even bother with Mini LED. Yes, it has come a long way with an abundance of dimming zones however blooming is still evident, no matter how many they throw at it. Mini LED is better in a bright viewing environment. The day Micro LED enters the consumer market, that'll be the real threat to OLED.

    • +1

Fwiw I saw the C4 and C5 and c855 in person and the c4 looked the best like I couldn't tell any difference between the c4 and c5 if anything the c5 looked worse for some reason

This was in two JB Hi-Fi stores super bright environment

Similarly the c745 looked better than the c755 for some reason

The c855 looked a tiny bit better than the c755 c745 but the main difference was it was more brighter which made it come across more clearer and easier to see because it was more illuminated

I want to see the c7k and c8k in person but no idea which stores in Sydney are displaying it

  • Thanks for sharing!

That's a very light (kg) TV considering it's size. Only 34kgs!!!!

  • What's the Hisense equivalent here and how does it stack up?

    • There is none

    • None they all bad and not even price competitive

    • U7QAU. It's a lot more expensive so not even worth comparing.

  • Does Hisense use the same panels for aus market than overseas market now?

Wasn't the case for a while

    • No. There was a big issue over this so they changed all Australian models to read AU at the end to stop people comparing them with RTINGS review models.
