I have a buffalo ricer cooker thats still chugging along after a decade of use. Only rice cooker I found that doesnt use aluminum but is stainless steel.

      • I agree, from that review it seems like he is using this as a multi cooker and comparing it to an InstaPot. I think first and foremost this is a rice cooker.

      • The biggest issue at this price point is lack of custom cooking time.
It’s a huge price to pay for a steel pot if you are only going to use it to cook rice.

        • +2

I paid $200 for my buffalo rice cooker a decade ago.

Happy with the purchase and worth the premium to avoid aluminum IMO

          • @Bid Sniper: I bought it 5 years ago and only use it when my 2x Instapots with steel pots are in use. They have a bigger footprint but they do everything that this cooker does and then some more but still are soo much easier to clean.

          • @Bid Sniper: and Telflon

      • With stainless steel, is there a lot of rice stuck/burnt at the bottom? I know for stainless steel pans we have to heat them up correctly to get them to become non-stick. How about these?

        • +1

add some oil before, some will stick, soak with water and leave for few hours. no big deal

        • +1

Rice does get stuck at the bottom. And the vapour causes rice water to accumulate above the vent. The whole thing including the seal needs to come off and wash properly else the vent would close and cooker would become a hazard.

To stop rice stuck at the bottum. Once rice is cooked, turn off the power and let it sit for 5-10 mins before opening the lid. It lets bottum rice to absorb steam and moisture.

          • @windwai: And also pouring in 100 to 200ml of water as you turn it off too. Close the lid, let rest. Voila.

        • Never any burnt rice with our one - perfect rice very time and easy to clean

    • Whoever wrote that review has a pretty weird take on things. The top lid and silicon seal just pop off for cleaning.
Maybe he never worked that out?

Tatung is also a stainless steel rice cooker that is pretty well known. https://www.ejoy.com.au/search?type=product&options%5Bprefix…

Does it have temperature control? Can the cook time be controlled? Can it slow cook? Why are Australian product websites so braindead and fail to include basic information about the things they're trying to sell?

    • +1

So true, Bunnings are the worst offender of this in my mind.

    • No to all three of your questions. It doesn’t have temp controls, can’t customise cool time and it can’t slow cook.

      It’s a rice cooker with a timer.

  • 3 cups of rice? How smar…err small is this thing?

Half the size of a microwave

  • Bought a bigger Buffalo stainless steel pot rixe cooker many years ago. Just for rice. Still kicking strong. And would definitely buy another one. Non stick and aluminium can go EABOD in imo.

We have this exact model and love it.
Perfect 'el dente' rice every time and just the right size for a couple. Well and truly worth the price to avoid Teflon coating which are standard nearly everywhere,
Quality is very good and Buffalo are a very well known brand in Korea.
Basically 100% happy with it and would buy the same model again if we had a house fire or whatever.
Also bought it from the same shop - Uncle Buffalo

This works perfectly for me, but I did have to start on medium high as it bubbled over almost immediately. It'll be a bit of trial and error depending on your microwave power settings. I use a plastic microwave bowl. It produces the nicest, fluffiest rice I've had in a while.
