These Freshwater Dwarf Shrimp are a great addition to your clean-up crew.
The Neocaridina family being one of the hardiest dwarf shrimp out there, they can survive temperatures as low as 15C up to 30C but thrive and breed readily between 21 and 26 Degrees.

Dwarf Shrimp are scavengers. They eat algae, bacteria and other microorganisms around the tank, and will never attack other live animals. They have a minimum bio-load and are a great addition to almost any tank's ecosystem!
Don't forget to check out our plants for combined postage and keeping the shrimp happy in transit!

Keeping with fish:
The general rule for all aquatic life is "if it fits in their mouth they will eat it." Unless you have specifically passive or vegetarian fish, shrimp may be eaten by any fish which is large enough to swallow one hole. Adult shrimp grow to 2cm in length, with juveniles being at least 1cm. Conversely, any smaller fish will live with them very happily. They may eat the baby shrimp if they breed, but if you have enough plant cover, usually enough survive to keep the colony going.

If you have any questions or problems feel free to ask!

  • Can i bbq?

    • You sure can. But won't be very good bang for your bucks that way.

  • Will angelfish eat them?

    • +1

They might yes if they don't have enough cover.

  • Hi OP, will Yabbies eat the shrimp?

    • Yabbies devour full grown fish!!

    • Yeah possibly, I don't keem Yabbies so wouldn't know unfortunately.

  • My mystery snail was munching on some of my cherry reds! What is going on… Should I risk more?

    • @$14 Postage why not… you should order them individually though.

    • That usually only happens if they are dead already. Snails are scavengers like shrimp, they don't hunt them.

  • Suburb for pick up not easy to find - I think pyrmont or Ultimo according to Google?

    • Hey! So we are in the middle of moving into a shop, its address is 153/313 Harris St Pyrmont. That will be the new pickup address, it used to be on Jones St Ultimo.

So you can actually come in store if you like, though we haven't got opening hours yet but you can just msg me if I am not there at the time.

    • +10

    • you try posting a live shrimp mate

  • Almost any other tank mates eat these. Perhaps safe tank mates could include bristlenose catfish and small tetras if plenty of places to hide.
Plenty of moss, rocks or logs to hide in.

Had red cherry shrimp breed in a tank with small bn catfish. Although not many babies would survive with any other tank mates.

Ideal water conditions for Red Cherry Shrimp
    PH 6.5 to 7.5
    GH 6 to 8
    KH 1 to 4
    TDS 150 to 250
    Temp 21 to 24

    Tap Water
    Plants - Subwassertang
Slow flow filtration, and sponge filters

RCS stand out on a dark coloured soil

    • Uhu. Though most fish that stay small won't eat any but the babies. Any fish under 2cm is usually fine.

  • What do they eat and what are the ideal breeding conditions?

    • They will eat leftover fish food, bacteria film around the tank, but if you have a small tank without much else you probably need to feed them. Our full diet fish food should work. Just make sure to not over feed them.

      • Thanks all. Decent size tank with bit of everything I'd say so food should be ok I think.
        What about breeding?

        • If the water is warm with plenty of food and room they will just get on with it themselves.

    • They love algae wafers and blanched cucumbers

    • Soy bean husks are pretty good leave in food, bacteria forms on the shells

  • Do you get any harlequin rasboras?

    • We may in the future yes, keep an eye out.

  • Thanks just made an order 👍
