Ridiculously cheap price for a great setup

How much would you have to pay to get this installed? I'm a pretty hands-on guy, but this possibly seems beyond my grasp.

    • As long as you are happy crawling around in your roof, possibly pulling some tiles and plugging in Ethernet cables, you should be right. Probably half a day's work for a sparky assuming you have good access.

    • I'm paying $155 per camera (including Cat6 cable) in Canberra.

  • Excellent setup, with excellent clarity. Down side is that that you will need a lot of cables run and the detection/lack of detection is really annoying to view through. Eufy is much better in every aspect except for image quality, Reolink smashes it out of the park as they allow high bitrate recording/streaming. Can't have it all…

    • +1

don't forget about Eufys ignoring their own security policies!

i do wish Reolink made the mounts stainless steel though

    • can you elaborate on the detection issues please?

      • I'd argue that it is a lack of proper configuration. Reolink offers very detailed options to set up your detection settings. Then, using the app the right way it's actually very handy to choose the type of detection you want to review and it jumps though the recording easily.

        • I absolutely agree. Person and vehicle detection has been absolutely marvellous, and I'd happily rate these cameras well above anything from Eufy.

  • 800 cameras are very old, this is not a great deal. Reolink is 20/22% off on ebay ATM.

  • Any idea how good is ubiquiti unifi stuff compared to more popular systems? I'm new into this and thinking of setting up security cams for the house.

Ubiquiti cameras don't make any sense at all unless you are already heavily invested in Unifi network products, where at least you get some interoperability bonuses. Their camera products are mostly mid-tier, and when you consider their performance against their very high prices, they represent poor value for money. They're basically using their good reputation in networking to justify a high mark up on utterly unremarkable camera products.

Reolink is pretty much the king of price vs performance. They are almost as good as cameras twice the price and usually have fairly equivalent features.

      • sweet, thanks mate; any idea between Reolink and Hikvision:

        • +1

I don't have a lot of experience with Hikvision products, but I know they have a reputation for excellent night vision in particular.

I understand that the HiLook range are intended to be a more budget sub-brand, which don't get the latest sensors and firmware that the flagship products do.

Without delving too deeply, I couldn't say which one was "better." They appear to have a similar feature set and pricing for equivalent packages.
