[NSW] 25 Years Membership $25, Free Lunch/Dinner Birthday Voucher (Valued $23.80/$34.80) at Star Buffet @ Bankstown RSL Club

1260

For the folks in Sydney.

$25 for 25 years membership, expires 06/2048 not a typo. Recently changed, when I signed up it was $20 for 4 years.

You get a free voucher for lunch (Mon to Fri) or dinner (Mon to Thurs), worth $23.80 and $34.80 respectively, on the month of your birthday at the all you can eat Star Buffet. There are other birthday deals at Bankstown RSL, but this is the highlight deal.

To redeem on the month of your birthday, swipe your member card at the machines opposite the lift that takes you to the buffet (not the carpark) on the ground floor, it's just past reception. Select free birthday meal at star buffet. Collect printed voucher. Show buffet staff your member card and voucher. Enjoy your meal.

You get your money back in the first year of membership. Dinner is a better use of the voucher but lunch is still worth it. Then for the next 24 years you get a free lunch or dinner on the month of your birthday.

Food choices. Dinner has more choices than lunch including seafood eg prawns. Lunch has yumcha, sushi dishes, desserts, fruit, Chinese bbq, congee, soups, fried foods, salads, Asian dishes, roasted veggies and meat, ice cream. Pay extra for soft drink or just drink water, it's free and filtered. Unless you want the ambience of a yumcha or sushi restaurant, this is way better bang for your buck. Seating is good, not crowded and clean. Everytime I've been over the 10 years the foods been fresh and tasty.

Transport: can park onsite but you cannot leave the RSL club without your car. Otherwise you can park at Marion St carpark which is opposite. Lots of buses and the train is nearby

I think they need some form of ID for new signups so don't do the 'my birthday is tomorrow/next month' unless you got ID to prove it.

There is no judgement if you go by yourself, I see heaps of people by themselves eating. It's a good feed, especially when it's free.

Enjoy responsibly, only take what you can eat and eat to a healthy limit. No takeaway. No, I don't work for the RSL or the buffet, just appreciate their service.

They were from Granville, it's over 20 Min drive to bankstown , or you just being racist ?

      • -5

        Lmao wtf wdym racist?

        • +14

Yeah and one dude from Granville. Doesn't change the racist factor. Shame on you all

            • +6

@Price Hike: The funny thing if you guys talk big but would never come to bankstown and say it. Stay tough and racist behind your screen

              • -6

@Seinfeld everywhere: 100% correct. I have a direct fear of being attacked for my race in Bankstown

                • +7

@Price Hike: And there we have it. The racist shows without doubt. It was obvious to me, at least now it's obvious to everyone else.

                • +31

@Price Hike: If we're going to bring politics into Ozbargain, let me say this, Hamas should be eliminated as they are a terrorist organisation, but it's Israel committing textbook genocide as well as being a terrorist state.

Bombing civilian targets is both a warcrime and an act of terrorism. The idea that you can just bomb a bunch of civilians just because there might be a Hamas member hiding among them is ridiculous. The death toll of innocent Palestinians has far exceeded the death toll of Isreali civilians, it is not a proportional response.

Posters should never be torn down, as the hostages deserve to be freed, but suddenly bringing up a political topic when it's just a RSL deal is not a good look.

                  • +12

                    @boban: Agree 100%.

This is a bargain site. Not a propaganda site for either side.

@Price Hike, if you really are passionate about this, go protest, don't hide behind a keyboard.

                    • +10

@tightm8: Deadset those who support either of this groups and live in Australia and think hanging a flag is necessary and going to change things. Leave. Book your flights and go help whichever side your on.

                  • +5

@boban: Spot on! I'm definitely not for either side but if those posters were of Palestinian casualties, it would be considered littering/vandalism.

                • @Price Hike: good to hear that you fear

              • +2

@Seinfeld everywhere: i live at bankstown and i could t agree with what he’s saying any more most but not all are savages that live around here ..if you don’t agree with them which i don’t .i would get jumped by 20 ppl for simply having a different opinion and supporting israel

            • @Price Hike: It is a shame that people from Bankstown (and Granville) travel to Bondi to desecrate a memorial to victims of terrorism. That is quite racist

There I fixed it for you

            • @Price Hike: besides whinging like a little baby on “OzBargain”, what can you do about it

      • granville / bankstown same kinds of locals

    • +8

I did the Bankstown feed today, went Bondi yesterday, but did not do the tear down.

    • +1

You really triggered Seinfeld everywhere :D hilarious

    • -3

i live at bankstown and can’t agree with you more , they are savages ..i wouldn’t dare put up an israeli flag at my house but my dad does at cronulla …

      • Oh no! Doesn't feel safe putting up the flag of a genocidal apartheid state? Whatever shall be done!

        • i'd be reluctant to put up a swastika too…

  • +1

    Good deal.
Do they still serve decent selection of seafood?

    • +1

During dinner there is prawns and mussels from memory, but haven't been for dinner for a long time as Im a lunch person

      • Some people load up plates of prawns only, others do hot chips and pasta, variety is nice xD

        • +1

Yeah always smiling when see people eat rice at buffet

  • +1

I haven't been since Bankstown RSL renovated, is the Star Buffet still the same (sushi train, etc)?

    • +2

The layout is changed slightly to be a bit more spacious. The selection is mostly still the same including the chinese bbq, sushi train and ice cream machine. I don't remember if they had this before renovation but there is a chocolate fountain.

    • +1

It looks more upmarket than before. Food is the same but has more Asian dishes

  • -1

Imaging paying to go to bankstown

    • -2

You dont pay, you survive !!

      • +2

I quite like their Banh Mi

        • don't forget Pho An

      • +3

        i survive it daily , - just

    • +4

Bankstown has the best pho in NSW. An resturant

      • An resturant

        Which one

      • -1

Only if you like your pho getting doused in msg. I prefer the gigs over in Cabramatta but they’ve all gone up in price

        • Which one would you recommend in Cabramatta? Hows pho Viet? I had the most awesome pho in cairns and the store was also called pho viet

          • @aka nioh: Pho tau bau is my fav in cabra. I used to go there as a kid and it's still going strong

If you want a different type of pho, go to 2foodies at mount Pritchard. Broth here is not clear like other places but jam packed with flavour

            https://youtu.be/wzl3vaoymq8

        • If you don't like salt in your food, I have bad news about the food you get in restaurants everywhere.

  • +3

Definitely one of the better buffet among the RSL I've visited. Although the price drastically went up and can't avail the free lunch on Saturday unlike before.

    • I don't remember the Saturday free lunch, you must be a veteran

  • IS there any waiting period? My birthday is coming up :)

    • +1

Prob activates at the earliest next month. Ask staff upon signup

      • +1

Can we sign up online or only in person?

        Great post nioh. Thanks

        • Not sure, when I signed up 10 yrs ago it was only in person. It's pretty quick, about 5 mins in person (if you fill the form quickly) and they give you the member card straightaway

    • probably sign up now before december starts

  • +4

Not a great buffet. Food was very bland.

    • i agree.

  • +2

Meanwhile in Victoria the RSL's aren't doing too great…

Something Something misuse of taxpayer grants?

    • +4

I hate supporting places that have pokies and prey on vulnerable people

  • Transport: can park onsite but you cannot leave the RSL club without your car.

    What does this mean?

    • Park in the underground or upstairs parking. Only way to exit carpark is to take the lift which enters reception. If you leave the building (only 1 exit) staff will ask you to take your car with you. Fair is fair, plenty of parking around bankstown

      • +1

i wouldn’t say plenty of parking around bankstown , it honestly depends on the day and time you need parking …everytime i go to aldi at lunchtime i can’t even find a spot to park cos everyone parks in aldi for free and unlimited hours , they need to install boom gates again

      🥳

This seems like a great deal until you get to the word 'Bankstown'

    • haha , yes bankstown does turn a lot of people off

      • I live in ctown and travel to blacktown quite a bit for uni. Bankstown pretty good in comparison haha

        • Half your luck.

Campbelltown and Bankstown are seved by a couple of great value and very well furnished licensed clubs. The Catholic Club and Wests Leagues at Campbelltown, and the Sports and RSL at Bankstown.

          • +1

@UncleRico: Ha, yeah, I'm not really a clubs sort of guy so I was more talking about general vibes. Bankstown certainly appears a lot more gentrified than either area I frequent haha.

            • @DarkWorld: yes i walk around bankstown after dark and wouldn’t even think twice about anything happening but if u are driving n someone don’t like your driving that’s a different story or if they don’t like the look of you then there could be an issue

  • Can you sign up online?

If not you reckon this will expire before end of next week?

    • I was trying to renew my membership with this offer but was unable to as it still has 2 years left on it. The receptionist said the membership fees recently changed and should be here to stay, so in 2 years time hopefully I'll still get the deal. If not $20 for 4 years (what I paid last time) is still good enough for me

      • I see. Thanks

Are they losing money on this?

        • +1

Probably, but loss leader strategy perhaps

        • They are confident that people will come in for a cheap feed and then lose a lot more money on the pokies

    • it won’t expire i’m pretty sure it’s ongoing

      • I see thanks

Do you reckon they can remove the birthday voucher offer later on?

Or is it guaranteed to stay for the 25 years?

        • it definitely would say in the terms n conditions …they may keep it for a few years but i can’t see 25 years unless that food business has a 25 year lease

      • I see thanks

  • +1

From memory if you're a member of 1 RSL you can get into any RSL without becoming a member, right?

So if you live in the area for an RSL that forces you to get membership you can save on membership by getting this? Or have things changed?

    • +1

      From OP's link:

A visitor can enter a club that allows temporary membership if they:
      - live more than 10 km away from the club or other distance a club has set are a member of another club of an RSL or Bankstown Sports Club.

Pretty sure these are the rules of all RSL clubs, otherwise should be available to check on their site.

  • Any vegetarian options?

    • +1

Yes, they have bean curd, salads, roasted veggies, desserts and sushi. Vegan might be a bit harder though as some salads have creamy dressings

  • +1

Awesome club and awesome deal. Thanks OP!

    • +1

Cheers, see you there one day🥳

  • +1

    Thanks for sharing OP.

    • Hope to see you there one day
