[NSW] 25 Years Membership $25, Free Lunch/Dinner Birthday Voucher (Valued $23.80/$34.80) at Star Buffet @ Bankstown RSL Club

1260

For the folks in Sydney.

$25 for 25 years membership, expires 06/2048 not a typo. Recently changed, when I signed up it was $20 for 4 years.

You get a free voucher for lunch (Mon to Fri) or dinner (Mon to Thurs), worth $23.80 and $34.80 respectively, on the month of your birthday at the all you can eat Star Buffet. There are other birthday deals at Bankstown RSL, but this is the highlight deal.

To redeem on the month of your birthday, swipe your member card at the machines opposite the lift that takes you to the buffet (not the carpark) on the ground floor, it's just past reception. Select free birthday meal at star buffet. Collect printed voucher. Show buffet staff your member card and voucher. Enjoy your meal.

You get your money back in the first year of membership. Dinner is a better use of the voucher but lunch is still worth it. Then for the next 24 years you get a free lunch or dinner on the month of your birthday.

Food choices. Dinner has more choices than lunch including seafood eg prawns. Lunch has yumcha, sushi dishes, desserts, fruit, Chinese bbq, congee, soups, fried foods, salads, Asian dishes, roasted veggies and meat, ice cream. Pay extra for soft drink or just drink water, it's free and filtered. Unless you want the ambience of a yumcha or sushi restaurant, this is way better bang for your buck. Seating is good, not crowded and clean. Everytime I've been over the 10 years the foods been fresh and tasty.

Transport: can park onsite but you cannot leave the RSL club without your car. Otherwise you can park at Marion St carpark which is opposite. Lots of buses and the train is nearby

I think they need some form of ID for new signups so don't do the 'my birthday is tomorrow/next month' unless you got ID to prove it.

There is no judgement if you go by yourself, I see heaps of people by themselves eating. It's a good feed, especially when it's free.

Enjoy responsibly, only take what you can eat and eat to a healthy limit. No takeaway. No, I don't work for the RSL or the buffet, just appreciate their service.

Man I really wish we had RSLs here in Perth like they do over East. The discounted foods and stuff are awesome memories.

    • Come visit with one of the numerous beat that flight deals that pop up!

    • I wonder why there arent any? Soldiers returned to there too.

These RSL clubs are mini casino dens preying on problem gamblers, mascarading as community clubs. Perth doesn’t have the pokie scurge (besides casino) so can’t offer freebies like this that are subsidised by the problem gamblers

      • -1

Totally agree. NSW has the second biggest number of pokies per head in the world, only second to Las Vegas. Be thankful WA is caring for the vulnerable and not allowing these sorts of clubs

    • Heh never knew RSL clubs doesn't exist in WA. Thought they were nation wide

  • Is that rsl membership for all RSLs, or just the bankstown one?

  • Dont you need to be Bankstown residents or live in the area?

    • +3

No anyone can join. I think even people interstate can. I live in the Sutherland shire and am a member

The common rule is that if you live within a certain distance of an RSL club you have to join unless your a member of another club already.

      • if you’re in the shire you would be further then 10km so u wouldn’t need to join , unless u do it for the members benefits or less hassles signing in ..

        • +1

Exactly, but the membership benefit aka free birthday lunch/dinner voucher is too good of a value to pass up. Esp now it's $25 for 25 yrs instead of $20 for 4 yrs

    • -2

They are open to problem gamblers from all areas!

    • As any RSL, no but have to bring an ID like a driver's license. If you're within a specific radius then you need to become a member which should not cost that much especially if you plan to return.

  • Can you sign up online? What ID/personal data is collected?

I smell a data collection scheme

    • Don't know, but any club in NSW requires a photo ID such as a driver's licence to enter. I assume to get the members card which forgoes the need to show ID requires ID to obtain the members card

I have membership with bankstown and it is free.

    • how ? my son always has to pay to join

      • +1

He’s confused and talking about a different club - Bankstown Sports.

        • Or you could spin it another way, they are saying they have a membership and when they refer to 'it' is free, the 'it' is the lunch/dinner voucher.

          😄

        • is the sporties free to join now ?

  • Food not good. Scallops made of flour and seasoning to taste like scallops.. I can unroll it. I went a few years ago, since then never again.

Scallops made of flour and seasoning to taste like scallops..

      seriously?

      • They are imitation scallops, just like the crab stick in Sushi. They supposed to be made of fish.

        • Whats crab stick made of?

          • +1

@bargain huntress: Crab sticks, krab sticks, snow legs, imitation crab, or seafood sticks are a type of seafood made of starch and finely pulverized white fish that has been shaped and cured to resemble the leg meat of snow crab or Japanese spider crab. It is a product that uses fish meat to imitate shellfish meat.

  • The Canberra one was epic… Can anyone say this one is just as good?

    • Yep I went to Canberra, I think they both the same in terms of quality. But Bankstown is way closer to my place😂

this is my stomping ground …my 24 year old son goes to eat at the all you can eat by himself and he doesn’t care as he’s only there to eat ..

    • +1

No judgement, I see heaps of people eating by em selves. Sometimes I question myself if I have a $21 bowl of pho when I can get this

      • +1

It's quite relaxing in a way

Used to have a Star Buffet here in Wollongong which closed down about a year before Covid hit, majority of the times we visited the food was pretty darn good for what you pay (the chocolate fountain was fantastic).

    • +1

Yea it was tough, many restaurants esp all you can eat buffets had to shut down due to covid

  • I presume you can only sign up at the place itself? Not online? Is there a time limit to this?

    • I believe so, definitely in person, dunno bout online. The receptionist said to me this membership offer should be here to stay, at least I'm hoping so because I can't renew my current membership as it still has two years.

      • +2

Hopefully it is here to stay as I honestly don't know when I'll be in the area to redeem this but you never know in 25 years if you use twice you are ahead

  • Is there such a place in Melbourne?

  • So anyone actually got the bday voucher yet and is the food any good?
