    • Nice, thanks for sharing this!

      5K Virgin points

    • thanks for the tip. My wife is currently on unpaid leave. Do they ask for employment contract or need payslips ?

      • Sorry, only just saw this. They asked for the 2 most recent payslips, no more than 45 days old

        • Thank you

    • +1

They just called me and didn't offer me the additional 5k points.

      • I did not even get a call lol.

  • Just submitted an application and received the application ID at the end but no email. Is that everyone's experience here ?

    • I submitted on the 6th and called three times since then, all three times they said wait for 2 business days

  • Submitted my application for the AMEX Platinum Card. Approved within minutes. No payslips required.

    • Which isn't a credit card?

  • Anybody received their card yet?

  • +1

Got declined by Virgin for the $6k limit card.
Applied for Westpac Black with 15k limit and got approved instantly.

    • UPDATE Just got a random SMS and email to say my application has been approved!!

      • +1

        same got it yesterday

        • +1

i wonder if i'll get the 30k top up bonus on both cards??

          • @wikiwiki: Keen to know this too. Couldn't find anywhere that says that you won't get the bonus for both.

      • You mean, you got approved after showing declined by Virgin?

      • weird.. so you got declined then approved??

    • +1

I got declined for Virgin, I kicked up a stink then they approved straight away.

      • Congrats.. what did you do?

        • +2

I called, they said some BS about rejection being based on a combination of factors.

I said I wanted reassessment or I'd go to AFCA. They gave me an email address to send a statement to, which I did.

A couple of days later I received an email saying my card was approved.

          • @fivespice: Do you mind sharing the number to call them on?

          • @fivespice: Good on you for getting approved but what would the AFCA do? Aren’t banks free to give their business to whom they think

After the royal commission I doubt AFCA are going to force banks to hand out credit to anyone who argues back 😂

            • @Brick50: I mean AFCA would probably do nothing but it's my go to threat 😂

I just felt like with my financial position, it was absurd to get rejected. I believe they rejected due to churning.

              • +1

@fivespice: Same here. Suncorp literally told me it was due to churning, which I disputed and got the decline overturned.

                • @wikiwiki: how often do you guys churn?

                  • @OzFrugie: Between my partner and I we normally have 1-2 churn cards at a time. I keep a Bankwest card for international travel and use between churns

Usually wait for previous churn card to show as closed on credit report and get the next card, sometimes we will have 2 at once if we will meet minimum spend.

Probably churn 4-6ish cards a year each but you could probably churn more yourself if you can meet minimum spend quicker or have multiple churn cards open if your situation allows

                  • @OzFrugie: I churn about every 1-3 months, about 8 cards a year. My wife churns about 4-5 cards a year.

  • For Virgin money cc how do you like your velocity details to the card?

    • You can link VFF to your CC during signup, or using the online banking portal.

  • What are the communities' thoughts on applying for 2 cards at the same time? I'm thinking of applying for the virgin money card and the amex velocity platinum card. Will hopefully get +30,000 on each card, therefore a total of 180,000 points. Id then close the virgin money card and keep the amex as my daily driver.

Not sure if its possible to apply for both at the same time? Or should I apply for one and wait as long as possible (before +30,000 bonus finishes) to apply for the second?

    • Do you have any existing cards?

      • An ANZ card that I will close before applying for the new ones. And a latitude travel card ($5000 credit limit).

I thought I'd close the ANZ, then apply for the other two saying that I currently only have the latitude card.

        Keen to hear your thoughts.

  • It will take time for the ANZ ones to drop off your credit report (they will still show as open). Usually for a month or two once closed.

  • +1

What a joke virgin money is. Absolutely no issues with my credit rating and good income and they rejected my application. You cant even find out whats their rational and u have to wait 6 months to re-apply. Is it going to be an issue if i try to apply to westpac now?

    • Raise a complaint. I did and I got approved - annoying as hell but worth it for the 90k velocity.

  • Looking at the Velocity Flyer Card - but I've had one in the past 12 months. Doesn't say anything specifically about having to wait 12 months, just: "Up to 60,000 bonus Velocity Points offer is available to new and approved Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card account holders who apply by 31 January 2024."

Anyone know if there's a period of wait, or can I just reapply?

    • +1

      No waiting period.

  • I literally just cancelled my Virgin Flyer Card yesterday (got it start of 2023), to sign up for a new card with bonuses etc. I was thinking of waiting a few months, is it too soon to apply for the Westpac card with this offer?

  • Conditionally approved for virgin money card after initial submission.. Will await outcome

  • between 12:01am (AEST) 6 November 2023 and 11:59pm (AEST) 17 December 2023,

Funny, I applied for my westpac credit card on 20th October, but they gave me the 30k anyway.

    • When did you reach the minimum spend to get the bonus points? And when did you receive the bonus points from westpac and the 30k points from virgin?

      • +1

made spend late October, first statement issued few days ago and got all the points at the same time 70k + a separate 30k

        • Thanks

        • yeah a friend of mine got bonus 30k.

        • hey mate, is the statement generated on a fixed date or is it 30 days from the opening date ?

          • @SydOzber:

30 days from the opening date

            this

            • @bohn: oh thanks for the response.
I contacted their support earlier and was told their billing cycle is fixed mid month(for every 30 days) i.e. between 14th-16th of every month irrespective of when the card was applied/activated.

              • +1

@SydOzber: my statement was 16th, which was also 30 days.. so they might be right I guess

I've had a few westpac cards though, and I can't ever remember having a very short statement but I might be wrong.

  • How's everyone's efforts with racking up the monthly spend?

Can't be too hard with BFD sales.

My card came just in time for me to use to get a S23 Ultra before the cashback offer expired. Along with a few meals and groceries, it'll tip me over $1500.

Just need to figure out what essential spends I got for next month.

    • Can’t find if government bill payments such as council, ASIC fees will be counted towards eligible spend

      • They don't. See my post on first page with a copy and paste of eligible transactions.

I was recommended to pay these via zippay to make them count though… haven't tried as I've had no bills this month.

        • Thank you very much

  • +1

How do the months work? If I sign up at the end of the month, do I have to spend $1.5k by the end of it to get the points? Or is it 30 days after you activate the card?

    • Nevermind - seems to me 30 days from the opening date.

      • +1

The first month starts from the date your card is approved. Took about a week for my card to get to me so you have 2.5 weeks to rack up the first month's spend (factoring in time for the purchases to clear).

One reason I spent almost $1100 on an S23 Ultra the day after getting the card.

        • +1

But do you get a digital card? Or card details you can use to add to a wallet app to begin use straight away?

          • +1

            @txb: Nope.

The first time you see your card number is when you look at the physical card.

And you need it to activate your card/account/sign up to the app and web banking.

  • Does anyone know if we receive an email or an update on the app once we meet the $1500 eligible spend ? worried as i don't want to wait till the first statement is generated and miss out on the points.

    • No email, if you are unsure better try to exceed $1500.
I missed 20k points last time cos Perth mint was considered government transaction by virgin

      • Ouch!

  • +1

Conditionally approved for the Velocity Flyer card a week ago after uploading payslips and heard nothing since.

    • +1

My wife was conditionally approved for the Velocity Flyer card a week ago and emailed them payslips yesterday

  • For those with the virgin money velocity flyer - does anyone know if the points earned during the statement period appear in online banking? I’ve had a few transactions settle but it says reward balance is 0… or do we only know how many points earned once the statement is generated? Just want to make sure my zip payments are counted towards eligible spend so I don’t miss out on hitting the $1.5k spend requirement for first two months. Thanks!

    • +1

Only once the statement is generated. Maybe call them to double check about your ZIP enquiry.

    • Can you pls post the update here on how you go with the zip payments

      • +1

I’m only two weeks into first statement so will be couple of weeks at least until I find out. I’ve successfully obtained points for paying zip balance with Citi prestige, NAb and St. George amplify CC earlier this year so assume virgin money should be the same.. (I hope at least)

        • So you just pay bills via Zip Pay ? New to this.. could you please explain a bit more. I have utilities, ASIC and council fees to pay

          • @SydOzber: Yep - use zip to BPay bills and link your credit card to pay your zip balance. It’ll appear as Zip on your Cc statement and you’ll be eligible to get rewards points (despite using BPay with zip)

            • @Crowing: Ok thanks for that.

            • @Crowing: Just looking into the BPay option on Zip pay and it looks like there is a $2.50 charge per payment and is not free. Am I missing something ?

Was wondering if I can pay my Amex card bill with Zip pay and then use velocity card to pay Zip

              • @SydOzber: You need a higher credit limit above $1000 on Zip and it will be free. I have the same problem and had it for 6 months now without them offering to increase it.

I had a previous Zip account and they always contacted me to take up a higher credit limit, but had to close it when applying for home loan.

                • @JHoliday: Ah I see… Under the credit limit, they dont offer higher limit at this stage even though I hardly used it and always paid the balance almost immediately.

Do you know if we can dot this via Afterpay i.e to Bpay the bills and then use Velocity card to pay Afterpay

              • +1

@SydOzber: Zip removed the BPay fee since July 23. This includes for those with credit limit of less than 1k (my limit is only 1k). I haven’t tried paying CC balance with zip, it’ll depend on whether Amex accepts credit BPay payments - I think you can check on the BPay website by entering the BPay code

                • @Crowing: Is there a credit check involved when applying for Zip (same as applying for a credit card, seeing they have a “credit limit”)?

                  • +1

@powerhead: I don’t believe so - I just needed to give them a copy of my bank statement as part of the sign up process if I recall correctly.

                  • +1

@powerhead: Can confirm that normal zip account will not do credit check but zipmoney does, and payment to zip is considered as retail purchase. I use zip for bills and oversea payments (airline ticket, 1% fee), so far it works great.

                    • @daoddv: Do you mean you use zip pay for bills and then use credit card to pay to zip ?

                      • @SydOzber: Exactly, I use zip to pay for all bills, inc water and rego (my ANZ cc does not give point for these two)

                    • @daoddv: @daoddv @Crowing cheers, will get onto it after I sort out my virginmoney approval. Hope zip pay are not stingy with their limits.

    • Thinking of doing super contribution via Bpay. Have you tried it?

    • @Crowing have your Zip payments counted towards as eligible purchases for hitting the $1.5k spend? Thanks

      • +2

yep - confirmed mate. Have received the 30k points for each of first two months after using the CC to pay off my zip balance

  • +1

Best one to get for those just into points hacking?

  • +1

New to credit card churning. Is there any disadvantage to getting this, getting the points, then cancelling the card immediately? Would that negatively impact credit?
