What did you pay for your Legion 5 Pro?

  • +2

    I paid $2.3k for legion 5 pro 3070 in 2021

This seems like a better deal though

    • +2

you'd hope so, two years later… but not really. While the desktop 4070 is a standard upgrade from the desktop 3070, the mobile 4070 is basically a 3070 with frame-gen software added in. 13900HX is the bulk of the upgrade, but it chews power vs Ryzen.

      • 4070 mobile is able to perform quite while using much less power

        • +2

Yeah but you don’t buy a high end gpu laptop for its power efficiency. Raw performance and performance per $ are the main considerations (apart from features specific to each model of laptop of course)

  • +1

RAM says 32gb in title but 16bg in item description? (on the Ebay listing).

Great price though! still waiting for cash rewards :(

    • yes… 16 * 2 = 32..

      lol..

    Weight

    Chonky baby.

  • OOS…wow, killer deal.

I have this machine highly recommended. Don't expect to use it on a plane tho the 330W power supply gets rejected by the in seat power and there is no software airplane low power draw mode.

    • +2

YouTube and other users online suggest you can charge this up to 140W using USB-C. Using a standard usb c charger, you could use this on the plane instead? At least it’ll keep it from going down as fast.

      • Does it still do the thing where the gpu caps at 40W when on battery or USB-C power?

Also plane seat power sometimes trips out if you use more than 100W

        • No idea, I converted to using a Rog ally for all my portable gaming.

  • OOS. Dammit!

  • Yeah wow that went OOS fast

  • +1

It’s a good bargain if thermal can hold for long time use.

  • +1

Screens on these are joy. Once you go 500nits… it's hard to go back.

  • wow just missed out. sold out

  • +2

Had a 3060 5800 for a year, excellent laptop. Sturdy, beautiful screen and performing.
Chunky and noisy tho, but not a deal breaker.

    • How were the thermals?

I have a thin metabox from a few years ago and it gets up to "melting plastic" hot.

      • +1

76/80 for gpu and similar for cpu with a laptop stand and fans 100%. On the edge but not bad at all 👍

      • 13900HX brings a whole different level of challenge compares to 5800

        • Fair point. It's a real downside to all of these 'thin-ish' laptop form factors.

  • Not bad

  • oof excellent deal but OOS so fast. Have my eyes on a similar model with similar price on the main lenovo site but waiting for good cashback offer before pulling the trigger, otherwise this would have been an upsetting one to miss

    • Waiting for cashback so the tax invoice reflects a higher amount. Nice.

    • What similar models would you recommend?

  • bargain!

8GB GPU. Good for casual gaming.

    • +2

It's pretty decent for "serious" gaming as well

      • can't say anything bad about 8GB these days

  • If you go to the Lenovo AU site you can still ask the sales persons on Chat if they can do the same price to see what they say.

Or if you create an account on the site, add it to your cart, then chat with them and send them your cart number of the unit your buying and then lay it on them that eBay was sold out and if they could match the price and or extend the warranty to make it a 3yr and see what they say.

I have a rtx 4080 version of this unit which cost me another grand compared to this ones price but also got it 3yr ext warranty and w11pro included :)

See how it goes, imo if your into these. This was my first Legion and so far so good!

    • I tried through the Lenovo live chat and best they could do is a $50 discount from the $2899. Apparently they can't match eBay deals.

  • +4

If you're not upgrading to the 4080, you can consider the Legion 7i Slim.

The 4070 caps out at 100W so thermals aren't a problem.

    Why the slim?
    - exact same specs as above possible
    - Fingerprint reader
    - Per key RGB
    - SD card reader
    - smaller power brick
    - lighter
    - slimmer
    - higher resolution screen (can be downside for some)
After cashback through Lenovo I got the Slim for $2750.

    Link to Build

Upgrade to i9 CPU will upgrade to 4070 automatically.
    Upgrade to 32gb Ram

    Price $3,086
Wait for a cashback offer around 15% and your around the same price as this deal.

  • How do these laptops compare with metabox for thermal
