Oh wow, I just ordered one from lenovo education store for 50$ more x.x

    • just

How long ago was "just" :(

It's so annoying when that happens lol

      • Literally on friday, so not even a week ago.

        • Rip. Ig it's too late to cancel the order right?

    • I did the same but with the cashback it works out cheaper no? I hope you did use cashback?

      • Nah no cashback.

    • I did the same, purchased Friday night though edu store, just called Lenovo and as it hadn't shipped took me 2 minutes to cancel. Very easy.

      1300 557 073 Option #3

      • I would cancel but they already took the funds out of my account. And I dont have enough to put towards the ebay one right now. So ill just end up paying 50$ extra I guess.

        • +1

Fair point, I think I maxed out this credit card with these 2 purchases. Will probably take me a week or so to get the funds back

          • @TThomas: You think I would be able to get a bonus off em, or my 50bucks back in that case? Probaly not.

            • @Nunubuffs: I mentioned I wanted to purchase through the ebay deal as it was cheaper, they didn't offer anything, they just cancelled the order. So can't comment unfortunately

Tried using the chat first to ask however they pushed me through to the post-sales number mentioned above. so sounds like the chat team can only help on sales

              • @TThomas: Yeah throught so, sucks that they just eff people over like that. When u ozbargain but get ozbargained in that case. Isnt the edu store supposed to be like the cheapest? Im so lost lol

    • Interesting a gaming laptop in education store.

  • Does this model have no wifi?

  • Good price ?

    • +14

      For this specs, absolutely.

A big point is how good the screen is over all the other lenovo/dell cheapies with 250nits while this one has 500nits and 100% sRGB.

The other is the GPU - 3070 TGP 140W. A lot of manufacturers nerf the power of graphics processor to reduce heat, slim bezel etc down to ~80W-100W. This has a massive 140W with superior cooling to boot.

You can take a look at previous deals and see what people are saying about this laptop here.

  • +8

For those wondering on Price - this is a great deal.
    - Most powerful RTX 3070 you can get (beats a 105w RTX 3080)
    - 8 core / 16 thread Zen 3 Processor
    - 1TB NVME M.2
    - 16" WQXGA scren (2560x1600) @ 165hz, 500 nits, HDR and G-Sync.

All for less than $2750. Won't find a better deal for the specs.

  • Low Hash Rate?

    • Of coz bro. There’s like no stock for Non LHR anymore

      • +1

is there anywhere that states that its LHR?

        • +1

I don't think any 3070 in a laptop is LHR, or at least I can't find any information saying that there's any LHR notebook GPUs.

          Anyone have confirmation?

          • @studentl0an: I have asked Lenovo but if more people could ask as well, we could get an answer quicker.

            • @Turbonetics: Have confirmed with chat that it is LHR

              • +1

@Niceone8: I would take anything chat support says with a massive grain of salt, especially after the debacle yesterday with what Amazon chat support had to say about the the 5700G/6700XT deal.

That is unless they can provide information stating it's LHR, besides their word.

      • Can confirm this is not LHR!

  • can I install additional SSD drives on top of the 1TB?

    • from the specs, there are 2 slots for NVME M2.

      https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/Legion/Lenovo_Legion_5_Pro_1…

    • +2

Yeah super easy to change out or add: 8 screws on the back and 1 screw for second NVME.

      • +1

you forgot the 3 screws on the shielding plate.

        • +1

^ what Azukay said, did it 4 months ago

          • +1

@JoeJoog: I just hate the shielding plate screws, have to have a magnetised screwdriver or nimble thin fingers.

    • +2

yes i have 2x 2TB installed, nightmare to remove bottom cover especially compared to previous gen legion

      • can we please have a hwinfo screenshot for the ssds if that is okay, thanks

any ssd heating issues with the 2tb ssds?

the official Lenovo page specifically states 2X1tb, though I suspect that might be a recommendation, rather than a limit.

  • +1

Legitimate top-of-the-line specs for your typical ozbargainer.

It's a shame that tech moves so fast now that getting parts and building a PC is always the better value choice because of component reuse and resale.

    Have an updoot.

    • +1

If you are after a game machine, PS5/XBOX is always the better value choice. Otherwise it's just a hobby you are feeding ;-)
Either way, you are buying a laptop for portability, which a PC can't compare at all.

      • In the PS4/PS3 era you could build comparable performance gaming PCs for the price of a console, and easily justify a small premium due to the cheaper games. Only with recent price premiums on PC components and the new console generation with great performance has such a build been basically impossible.

        • +3

Haha yep prices have changed these days!

I bought my PS4 Pro new for $490. Came with a controller, and I hooked it up to my existing TV. Lasted me 4 years - sold it for $400. There is no way you could build a PC for that.

          • @onlinepred: Lol, same with me, except I got $100 back from Amex deal and sold the PS4 pro 2 years later for $420.

            Good investment :)

        • Yep, I’d say if one were to wait a few years till the middle of the current gen consoles’ product life, a similar value proposition could be made

      • PS5/Xbox Series S/X may be better value initially if your only metric is the amount of performance per dollar spent, however consoles quickly become less of a good deal once you factor in the ~$60 or more per year for PS Plus or Xbox Live Gold/Gamepass, plus you can usually get PC games at a lower price than console games.

        • Event so, you would need to keep that PC for at least 5-7 years to match price, and you won't be able to make the money back selling it, and you won't be able to play new games on max after a year after purchase anyway. I mean realistically unless you buy that many games that you save $1500 in games alone, PC will always be more expensive, unless all you play is 2d games - then you can build very cheap PCs

    • That's never really changed. If we ignore portability (the whole point of getting a laptop) it always was and is better value to build your own PC but with crypto/COVID impacting GPU prices in recent times the laptop deals have probably compared more favourably now more than they ever did.

  • Can I use the coupon and gift cards simultaneously on eBay?

    • Yes you can, I believe it is 1 coupon/voucher (a code like LNVO20) and then up to 7 gift cards. However YMMV if you try for more GC.

    • also maximum of $1500 in giftcard per transaction so keep that in mind.

  • +2

Don't need one now, do you think there would be a price drop end of the year?

    • More likely the price will go up by the end of the year

      • Why so?

        • Very high demand due to COVID, supply shortages due to COVID

      • +2

tech normally goes down in price?

        • Eventually, but it will be another year before the supply shortages are resolved. Meanwhile demand it continuing to rise

      • +2

I think this is unfortunately true, this same laptop was released back in Apr 2021 for ~ $2400.
I still struggle to understand how a tech item can go up up in price after 4 months from release but we seems to be in such silly situation..

  • How does this gpu compare to a mid tier desktop gpu? I have a 2k gigabyte 144hz monitor which id like to connect, would the card be able to give me 144 frames on gta 5?

    • +2

It's about equivalent to a 2070 super, so probably wont push 144 at 2k res.

Should do 60 fps at least, though.

      • A bit better than that based off some comparisons I just looked at. Seems to be more like a 2080 and even slightly better in some instances.

  • This is a superlative deal.

  • +3

this is a great Laptop and I almost went for this last week
I cannot find the specs with higher quality screen and 3070 for this price for any other laptop

been looking at the legion Laptops closely and from what I can gather
Legion 7 has slightly better build quality, vapor chamber cooling and glass trackpad

both the legion 5 and Legion 7 come in AMD and Intel 11th gen variants

with AMD 5800H, slightly better battery time and better in RAR file compressions
and gives better performance per watt at lower wattages like 45w
this gives access to USB 3 Gen 2x2 == 20gbps theoretical bandwidth
again I am not sure if there are OTC available drives that can take
    advantage of this.

With intel 11800H, slightly better multicore performance specially with higher wattages
    like 70-80watts
this gives access to thunderbolt 4 port ( theoretical 40gbps ) but
Im not sure how many will use this for that
kind of transport in real world

with lenovo edu store, the legion 7 with intel 11800 16gb, 1tb pcie 4 and 3070 available for around 2970 with shipping end of this month

this Deal is good for AMD with higher ram of 32gb but 1tb pcie 3 for 2623 - X% off ebay gc upto $800

not advocating anything but just so everyone can make up their own minds !!

    thanks

    • +1

The Intel also has one PCIe 4.0 M.2 slot so the SSD can go up to twice as fast depending on which SSD it includes or which you buy and install yourself.

      • absolutely, forgot to mention in the midpart description though i mentioned that with the lenovo store lappy availble. thanks!

what I cant understand is why lenovo puts 1 ssd with a pcie4 lane and 1 ssd with pcie 3 lane.
with intel 11th gen processors, there are 16 pcie4 lanes available.

        • +1

All Intel 11th gen laptops appear to have one of each. I think the rest of the PCIe 4.0 lanes go to the GPU.

      • Do U think with PCI 4 it will make a massive difference combined with this 3070 in gaming?

If so then I shall wait for that to come down in price instead of jumping on this 🙏

        • +2

No. PCIe 3.0 is plenty fast.

          • @Guybrush57: I think I should add to my comment. An M.2 SSD that maxes out PCIe 3.0 will be incredibly fast and an M.2 SSD that maxes out PCIe 4.0 will be twice as fast again but you will never notice it at this point in time.

Microsoft will be releasing a new technology called DirectStorage as part of Windows 11 (and supposedly Windows 10) that will allow GPUs to read directly from a storage device. I have no idea if PCIe 4.0 will make substantial differences with this tech and apparently games have to be written to support the technology. It perhaps is best to wait but if you bought a PC without PCIe 4.0 then I am sure you will still get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Worst case scenario is your load times will be a little longer in future compared to other PCs.

    • In terms of a competitor - I've been holding my breath for HP Omen 17 with similar spec, released in US but not yet here:

      https://www.omen.com/us/en/laptops/2021-omen-17-intel/specif…

    • Make sure to check on the delivery though. I ordered a Legion 7 with an RTX3080 in June and it's not arriving until December 9th.

  • +2

A Lenovo worth buying, as it has the ctrl key on the left, rather than the fn key lol.

    • You can switch that in settings (and it's saved in the firmware). First thing I do on any new Lenovo laptop

      • +3

Work laptop, so no can do :(

    • +1

You could also say the FN Fn key :)

But as mentioned, easily switchable in the BIOS

  • +1

Thanks for posting this. I've cancelled my L7 order which was due in December. This is cheaper by $200 and has double the memory. I couldn't handle waiting another 4 months for a small upgrade.

  • How long to deliver to regional QLD?

  • +1

How is the noise on this model? Seems perfect in most respects

  • good deal

  • +2

Bing Lee cancelled my nitro 5 order, so now I'm spending twice as much on this. Thanks OP.

  • Why can't they have a fingerprint scanner?

  • This thing is a beast. Wish it had a 17" screen, if so I'd be tempted to replace my Dell G7.

  • -2

I would recommend the version below this one, which has 3060 ti, 16gb RAM & 500gb SSD for better savings. You can always upgrade RAM & SSD with a better, cheaper alternative found on Ozb. You could easily save about 4-600$ on this.

    • +1

The 3060ti with 4gb of RAM is crap at $4-600 cheaper.

      • -1

3060 ti should have minimum 6gb vram just like 2060.

        https://www.nvidia.com/en-in/geforce/gaming-laptops/

I don’t know where you got that 4gb figure from, but it is incorrect.

        • Do you have a link to the laptop with 3060TI?

          • @CodeXD: Might have confused it with a 3060 or seen it on international site, not sure. But it is definitely not there on the Australian site when checked today.

        • +1

My mistake. I was thinking of the 3050 series.
