[iOS] $100 Signup Bonus ($50 on Activation, $50 First Purchase with Citro Card) @ Citro ($49 Annual Fee, $0 for The First Year)

140

So this is a new product, apparently backed by AMP. It's aimed at over 50's but my 22 year old signed up successfully.
No credit checks, just a debit card so needs the KYC check (ID & photo).
Seems like they also offer 'exclusive' deals and cashback for other purchases with specific retailers.

Citro offers a cash back payment to New to Citro Eligible Cardholders of up to $100.00 AUD who apply, are approved for a Citro card and transact with a Citro Partner Merchant within the Promotional Period.

2.1. $50 cash back will be applied to the Eligible Cardholders Citro card as Stored Value upon successfully completing the sign up process for a Citro Card within the Promotional Period.

2.3. An additional $50 cash back will be applied the Eligible Cardholders Citro card as Cash Back Credit upon complete your first purchase at a participating Citro Partner Merchant.

Edit: Couple of things from t&C's:

  • It does say you have to be over 50 to be eligible for the cash back.
  • The second $50 is reliant on using the card with a participating retailer, which seems to mean one they've got deals advertised with.

  • Strange that the seller name isn't the company, but just .. "Dennis Leon"

    • +2

The reason behind "Dennis Leon" being used as the seller name instead of a company name is a peculiar tribute to an eccentric 18th-century explorer named Dennis Leon. Legend has it that this enigmatic figure was known for his unorthodox business tactics and would often disguise his trade ventures under his personal name rather than a formal company title. To honor his unorthodox yet successful methods, contemporary sellers have adopted the pseudonym "Dennis Leon" as a nod to this mysterious and cunning historical figure.

  • No android app there yet

    • Apple users spend more than Android users, so it makes sense to target them first if you're running a scam.

      • That Dennis Leon is one smart cookie

    • This is targeted offer, it's only for the incestuous Apple users

      • and over 50

        • A deadly combination

  • is it a bank, or just a cashback provider with prepaid cards?

    • seems to be different, from a brief read on the steps, seems they only provided card (for cashback purpose) that need to be link to our existing bank acc

    • I don't think it's a bank, but it is a Visa debit card:

Citro Card means Citro branded rewards membership Visa debit card issued by Hay Limited ABN 34 629 037 403 (Hay), with Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) No. 515459. Citro is authorised by Hay to provide customer service support for the Account and Card. This authority is provided under Corporate Authorised Representative No. 001305395.

      • I didn't think Hay was still around? They offer(ed) prepaid debit cards from memory.

    • Copy paste error they forgot to replace that one

Looks like you’ve gotta be over 50 to be eligible for any of these bonuses.

  • Hi OP, could your son’s application still be rejected?

    • +1

Only if it gets processed within the next 28 years

      • I was asking OP bruh

        • Sorry about that. I forgot that I was logged into one of my other accounts

    • +2

My 22 year old daughter was approved for the card, but I'll be interested if the sign-up bonus comes through.

      • I think there’s a good chance it will. Do you get a cut?

  • So this is a new product, apparently backed by AMP. It's aimed at over 50's but my 22 year old signed up successfully.

Yeh Citro lets anyone over 18 sign up but did they receive the bonus? If not then this line may mislead/confuse some people.

    From https://www.joincitro.com.au/support

Who can apply for Citro card?
Any Australian resident over the age of 18 can apply for a Citro card. However, the benefits of a Citro card are generally most applicable to people nearing, or over 50.

    • +2

Highly doubt the $50 bonus would come through if we sign up. It has been clearly called out in T&C

  • +3

Note that it is free for one year only
"Enjoy $0 Annual Fee on your Citro membership in the first year - thereafter, continue enjoying all of its perks and benefits at only $99 per year"

    • +1

Pretty vague what all these “perks and benefits” are. And theres no list of the participating retailers you need to spend at to get the other $50?

  • cant seem to see button to click on my old Iphone SE small screen to link the citro card to my other bank. not sure how to get pass this step.

    • Do you have the card yet? There's no digital option so I don't think it will work until you have activated it.

      • no i have received it yet. has anyone been able to link their bank account or activate their card before receiving the card? if they dont extend the deadline i think many like myself will miss out on both $50 bonuses.

  • Has anyone received the card? I applied successfully today but I need to allow 5-7 days to receive it. Promotional period ends in 6 days so may not be eligible for anything if the card doesn't turn up.

    • Make that 5-7 business days. What are the odds you'll receive by next Wednesday? Pretty low I'd say…

      • Mine came today, applied in the PM of the 7th Nov

Edit - Was showing as $50 pending cashback, used it for a coffee and it's now showing as $100 pending and a total of $95.80 (which is less the cost of the coffee)

        • 'Used it for a coffee' where can you use the card to satisfy the sign up requirements? And where can you spend the credit?

          • +1

@Sweet3st: Just walked to my local and tapped it like a normal debit card.
It's now (2 hrs later) showing $45.80 'Available Cashback' and the icon says "You can use this anywhere for your next shop, congrats"

        • Is it only for those over 50 ?

          • @SydOzber: Was speaking to a mate who just applied today and they called him to confirm he was aware it was for over 50s which sounds super weird

  • Interesting that T&C has conflicting definitions about what you need to do within promotion period
1.d "You apply and are approved for a Citro Card within the Promotional Period"
2.a "… activated their Citro Card within the Promotional Period"

    And it is finance company!

  • Thanks OP. Received today.

  • looks extended

    Offer valid until 30 November

  • thanks OP for the post. i was a bit worried at first as i was prompted to do a selfie and scan of ID? i sent them an email as i was worried i wouldn't get the card in time they said they would give 1 week grace so we could meet the terms. but my card arrived today and it looks as if its been extended to 30 November. make sure the bank you link is PayTo ready. I had to contact them to delete the attempted link to anz plus as its not ready yet and linked another account from the big 4. did 1 cent purchase got $50 cashback available and another $50 is now pending. does anyone know when the second $50 bonus becomes available?

    • Are they checking age > 50 ?

    • Mine is already $100 available just added pay to agreement today and $100 is available without any purchase. A bit strange

      • was there any checks on age > 50 ?

        • Nothing im 32

          • @kay007: thats good to know. was it a straight forward sign up does it take days to signup and activate ?

  • Everything is prompt, except for the card delivery, rest is piece of cake easiest $100 bucks i guess

    • so we wouldn't get the $50 if we don't do the first spend and if I apply now there's only 8 more days to receive the card(I'm Sydney based). Do you know how long it took for you to get the card ? Shame we cant use virtual card for purchase

  • Thanks OP

Got the card. Activated it and linked my bank account.

I think they change their t and c’s. Got the 100 cashback without doing a partner purchase.

Great offer, similar to citi’s offers.

    • Got the card in the mail today, activated and showing $100 pending too. How do we use/withdraw that $100 though? I'm guessing that $100 pending will move to available cashback and we just tick the "use cashback" when using the card or am I wrong?

      • +1

        You are correct!

        • Thanks, so we just go to Citro app, tick that "use cashback" and just use the card normally to purchase something to use that $100?

  • +1

Rejected applications for both my wife and I sighting age requirements. :(
Called support and was advised their age requirements is now being implemented for new applications.

I got 200 bucks this has to be the easiest 200 bucks ever

    • Actually same. I don’t know how but 1 day it became 200

      • Damn! I only got $100… not complaining but…

    • I got 200 as well a few weeks ago and clicked use cashback. I’ve used it all for mainly shopping.
      Froze the card.

Only one page of comments !!!!! wow I guess there’s not many of us over 50 on ozb. Otherwise this would’ve been hammered to absolute death. lol

Are there any more benefits using the card ? Rewards, cashbacks , etc ?
