my feeling is so hot like a fire

  • +6

I have a few of Heymix products, I've been waiting for the fire to claim $$$$$$ from my property insurance company… however Heymix upsets me deeply.

    • If an uncertified device is found to actually burn your house down, your insurance company will most likely reject the claim.

      • +1

“I certify this device is likely to burn your house down.” There, all sorted.

Not a bad deal. I’m waiting for this one to return for $10. Comes with nice pouch and small LED torch

        • lol we all just buy and never open it

          • @WwDesi: it gave us illusion of scoring a good bargain but the reality is wasting money (and time). and the result is high inflation. and RBA increase. and living cost stresses.

  • +2

So what is the real capacity on this one? The size is a clear indicator it is not 10,000MAH…. Ozfakebatterybanks these days.

    • +12

It expands when you use it

    • The 10K is 15 x 6.8 x 1.6 cm, 240 grams. (measured),

So larger than shown on the listing, but normal 10K power bank size.

I have a weird idea of fun, so recently grabbed the three HEYMIX models to capacity test.

Based on reputation for poor QC, I don't recommend them. But all three meet the voltage and wattage specs listed, and have a pretty normal efficiency for the price. Longevity is unknown.

Basically just average power banks, backed up by the HEYMIX reputation. So prob not worth it, unless very cheap, and not used with expensive gear.

Efficiency in this case is the percentage of the nominal cell capacity, available in real world use. The below numbers are not terrible, but not good either. Again, pretty much normal for these sort of power banks and the cheap sale prices. At full price they are slightly below average.

      Tested capacity / efficiency.

      10K = 73.5%

      20K = 76.9%

      20K 100W = 79.6%

  • My Roof, My Roof, My Roof is on FIRE!!!!

  • Hmm not sure if I need this, so I bought two.

    • lol

    • +1

I bought 2 as well, 1 is a gift and 1 is for my power bank collection

      • +1

Yep exactly my thought as well for Christmas gifts. 👍

        • christmas light you mean?

      • 1 is for my power bank collection

Now that sounds like a fire hazard!

  • +6

Is it really a fire hazard? I think I got one 6 months ago and it's been great.

I think it was this, looks identical

    • +1

Just to be clear, totally happy to believe it. Just want more info.

Maybe there's a very similar one available in looks that I got?

Edit, nope. Just checked email. I'm very bad at time!

Was only Sept 4 and yes, it was this brand….

What do I avoid and look out for?

  • coupon not valid for me.

  • +1

Just in time for my flight on Firefly Airways.

  • Slightly weird question, but if I get a USB to 12v socket converter, does this have enough Watts to be able to power a 12v fridge?

Not really sure how to calculate as I can only find info on draw (amps) and battery capacity (Ah).

    • +1

Well, this one is rated 22.5W @5V. That translates to 4.5A @5V or 1.8A @12V, assuming lossless conversion. Realistically you'd be looking at 1.5A max @12V.

How much does your fridge need?

The next issue: it will only run for about 2 hours at maximum power, then it's empty. Maybe ok for a picnic, not ok for a camping trip. Well, you could get a dozen and swap them out every 2 hours to get you through a day…

      Or you get a 100Ah 12V battery for ~$300. 66 hours @1.5A.

      • Yeah I guess I was thinking multiple. 10 X 10Ah each would be $150.

But I think the fridge needs up to 5amps so I guess I need a higher wattage.

Can I ask how you did the calcs in your first para? Thanks a lot.

        • +1

          Current = Power / Voltage
          A = W / V

    • Do it properly and get a Battery Box with a battery. Even an AGM for the odd use would be fine.

Here is a bit of an explanation on another situation.

      • Legend thanks yeah was trying to avoid spending a few hundred but you're right I should just do it properly. That battery box looks like a good deal too.

    • I like the way you think! Have a battery but it’s really heavy. Realistically, we just need to have enough power to help the fridge run a few hours overnight to keep it cold, during the day there’s solar plus engine if needed.

      • Yeah likewise. Maybe not this one but a chunkier one might be the middle ground

        • I have run a small 12V fridge from the Baseus 65W, 30,000mAh power bank.

          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/313665937864

          $62 or so currently.

It depends on the fridge though, because the start up current of the compressor may trigger the power bank auto shut down.

On a small fridge, I found it was ok if I used the 20V output on the power bank. The fridge in my case could run on 12 or 24V, so higher voltage meant lower current.

I used a USB-C PD trigger to get the 12V and made a custom cable. But IIRC you can get USB-C to cigarette lighter style plugs that will do 20V. Many do 15V though and others do 12V. The chances of it working correctly are better if using higher voltage, provided your fridge can run up to 24V. You can also get USB-C to laptop plug (20V) triggers, but you would still need to adapt that to the fridge plug.

On the small fridge, the 30,000 mAh was good for about 6 hours.

On a larger fridge, the compressor start up current tripped the power bank. The larger fridge (mostly) worked with a 100W Baseus power bank though. The code from the below deal still works, so that is a 100W, 25,000 mAh power bank for $68.

I have tested the 65W version and it seems great. But have not tested the 100W version, and can't speak to if it would work in this case.

Even with 100W it tripped occasionally, and I wanted to try using pass through charging for car use, so one thing I experimented with was using a DC to DC constant current module like this from eBay, for about $15 or less shipped from China.

I set it for minimal voltage increase to limit efficiency losses, and limited the current to under what the power bank could handle without tripping the overload. That way the compressor start up current spike was not an issue.

In the end though I went another way, and used drill batteries. Ozito had a 3x 4Ah batteries for $99, and I modified a mount for the batteries that could attach to the fridge, and ran them in parallel. I couldn't charge them while connected, but the drill batteries got double the run time, and had no issues with the start up current spike. The fridge would run from just one as well, for a few hours.

          • @Prong: Wow master, please show me the ways! I’m not working on this particular project at the moment, but really appreciate your input, that means at least it’s doable. I have a couple years until I need to make it work to go off grid maybe, this is very valuable <3

  • Grabbed one thanks

  • This is a 🔥🔥🔥 deal

  • Haha,….comments did'nt disappoint.

  • +2

    Why all the 🔥 comments?
Do we have news reports of Heymix catching fire?

  • Isnt heymix a bad brand? Is this reliable?

  • +1

What’s the back story ? Was there someone here that had one catch on fire or this is standard meme stock

    • Nah we just like shitposting this brand

  • Coupon only showing 30% for me now

    • I think its over, it was 50% in morning when i posted

  • Is this better or worse than the INIU brand one?

    • They all probably come from same factories in china

    • INIU have a 3 year warranty, vs 1 year for HEYMIX.

Having not tried to claim either, I can't say beyond that.

But generally I think INIU appears to be a better brand.

  • The savings coupon has changed from 50% to 30%.

Very fast shipping and very beautiful design and light to carry with 🙏
