Would there be an option to upgrade to 6000MHZ ram? And does this motherboard support a 2nd M2 slot?

    • +1

one of the optional adds is a 2nd M.2, if that's useful info?

      • +1

        Yea that makes sense.

        • Yep, B650 boards are generally pretty feature rich and while we use a few models, a second NVME drive would be supported.

    • +1

Sorry missed the RAM question - short answer is no, longer answer is 6000Mhz can be tricky to get, and pair in certain board/kit combos, so we don’t offer it

  • Damn that is a good price for the 7800X3D upgrade haha.

Edit: @luketechfast: Any chance I could swap out the 7900 in my prebuild from you last month for the 7800X3D?

    • I have actually edited the price as it was setup incorrectly. We couldn't swap out a CPU from an existing build that had been completed though - I think that's what you're asking?

      • Yeah that's what I was asking. No drama, my 7900 runs well so probably wait till 8000 series then to upgrade then.

        • X3D is good tech no doubt about it! 7900 kicks ass too

        • Id honestly stick with the 97900. Unless you care about the difference between 220 fps & 250fps at 1080p gaming your not going to notice a difference. You are more likely to notice a decrease in performance for every day tasks where extra 3d cache isnt remotely useful.
Its also not really that great a price at all for the x3d considering that aus retails it at a lower price than the 9 7900 & the upgrade is costing you 50$ more.
If your running with a 4070ti or 4080 upgrading your cpu is just future proofing something that is already more future proof than the gpu. Essentially your wasting money on something that isnt remotely going to improve performance.

  • Got my version of this from TechFast a couple of weeks ago, very happy so far. Had a problem getting rid of preinstalled Linux - the support team helped solve the problem in 24 hrs.

Very cheap given it has RTX 4080. Whats the catch?

    • +4

There isn't one. We have years of doing this type of spec pricing behind us :)

    • +1

Techfast can buy PC parts for cheaper than you can. This is the new reality of PC building.

    • +3

We provide detailed instructions to switch to Windows with every PC, and haven't had much in the way of negative feedback. A few issues we're happy to help with but overall it has been a smooth transition.

      • -4

Its just an unnecessary step to do and you know more than 99% of buyers will use windows. Whats the reason for installing linux over window's??

        • +6

If I understand right, Microsoft doesn't want retailers installing unactivated windows on machines anymore

        • +7

Windows Activation adds a major cost which some users prefer to avoid. Shipping with Linux gives people the choice to load an OS of their choosing. Windows Activation is available as an upgrade. We do not ship PCs with Unactivated Windows.

        • +1

Legally they are not allowed to unless you buy a copy. Microsoft partners, it would be against their TOS.

          • -4

@Austrian Oak: Probably easiest thing for customers would be a $3 16gb usb with windows ready to go chucked in.

            • +2

@DiGz: That is definitely not allowed from legitimate sellers. Linux Mint which we use has the best compatibility we've seen for online game services like Steam etc.

@luketechfast: Im not saying its hard to create a bootable drive with the os, boot into the bios & set up windows yourself.
But there has literally been a reddit topic asking if “windows is free” in which a windows dev replied “yes, but it has a watermark until activation”. Which is why it makes no sense me that it can’t be installed unnactivated.
Windows literally provide you with the OS & software to create a bootable drive.
Just for the record it doesnt bother me in the least that systems come with linux mint, Im honestly more surprised that going the other way breaks any TOCS or legal boundries all things considered.

                • @Sirloin: This isn't the only company to do that. Nebula don't nor do BPC.
It's quite common to see this now

                • @Sirloin: what you read on reddit vs reality can be very different.
If you've ever had to deal with Microsoft on anything licensing related from an IT company perspective you'd want to throw yourself off a tall building daily

      • Agree with DiGz
It would be much better to have preinstalled keyless win10 or 11(or ready USB stick) than spend time downloading win, run to a post office to get cheapest 16gb usb stick, than google the ways make a bootable usb on that linux, do not be scare format your SSD.. It is ok for someone familiar with those things, but for a mum with a teenager son, who dreamed turn it on and play COD with friends tonight…;)

        • +1

It is honestly so easy you dont really need google either, im just more surprised that they cant preinstall without potential issues, considering windows distribute the OS free.
Windows literally provides you the software to format, install & turn your OS into a bootable drive, at which point you run bios & choose your primary boot method. Techfast also provide their own instructions.

          • @Sirloin: Yep very strange. I had somebody buy a pc new 1 month ago from an aussie company and hey Presto windows 11 pre installed.

  • Really tempting deal.

Now I just have to wait till @BPC Technology and/or @Nebula PC come up with AMD cpu - 4080 combo to see which one I'll be buying.

The bpc deal smashes this one if you do the equivalent upgrades

      • Only thing that they lack is decent base SSD storage.

        • +1

Ssds are so cheap when you have a good sale. It's the least of the concerns in that build. In all fairness it will get the job done quite well. Just wait for a good 990 pro deal use macrium reflect and clone the SSD on to your new SSD. Super easy. The SSD will still be a decent secondary drive

          • +1

@maverickjohn: Ya true ssds certainly arent expensive, the only other thing I dont like besides storage, is that the case despite looking like great quality has bottom mounted fans.
I always position on the floor. Exhaust fans on the bottom are useless, intake is just positioning a dust magnet underneath. Mind you it can all probly be remedied with their upgrade options.

  • Does this motherboard come with SPDIF audio output?

    • The current X670 upgrade (MSI ProP) does but the B650 wouldn’t

  • This is a really promising deal!

This is a bit overkill just for most of my games. Are you guys going to run any 4070ti + 7500f sales anytime soon?

If you make a build with 32 GB of ram and give me an option with a removed SSD I'll take a bite :)

  • The cheapest GPU is $1900 so the rest of the build is $588
In saying that if you add options to make this build more powerful the value is immediately lost and you can probably build for cheaper.
    https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/BrrkDZ

    • the reality of building a new PC in 2023, it all depends on what price video card you get.

And MB i guess to some extent, everything else is relative cheap nowadays.

  • PA 120 SE should be enough and you have to take risk of AIO leaking after years of use.

  • Hey @luketechfast

    Couple of questions.

    1) Which B650 Motherboards will you be using in the build?

    2) Which model SSD will be in use for the 1TB boot drive?

    Thanks

  • Hey @luketechfast.

Wondering if you guys plan to bring back a 3060 build under the $700 mark?

With Christmas just around the corner would be great to see!

  • u/luketechfast or anyone else who has experience with this:

I am considering purchasing this PC, taking the RTX 4080 and changing it with RTX 3090 and giving the PC to a friend with the RTX 3090 in it instead.

Warranty wise if I give them the receipt, if they face issues in the future, can they claim warranty problems on other parts without the RTX 4080 in the system? Or do you need all parts of the system to remain in the system in regard to warranty?

  • Good deal, does Techfast have any Buy Now Pay Later options @luketechfast? Thanks in advance.

    • I asked the same. No is the answer (not for ozbargain deals).

  • I'm trying to figure out how bad the base CPU will bottle neck the GPU. Anyone across that? Jumping from AMD Ryzen 5 7500F processor to R7 7700 makes it a bit too expensive for me.

    • Highly depends on what resolution. At 4k it wont be the bottleneck for most games the gpu will.

  • @luketechfast

Is there any way for us to choose which B650 Motherboard and a 6000MHz RAM is included?
I don't mind paying a little extra for a better B650 Motherboard and RAM.

    Thanks

    • Unfortunately not mate, we have stocked up on the boards we could beat up suppliers on, to roll the deals out. Variety isn’t our strong suit atm
