    Chuckled

    ridiculously cheap however

You can play fast action games with this Acer Aspire laptop's 0.8 MHz processor. It has 4 GB of memory, allowing you to enjoy fast-responding computing performance. Plus, the Acer Aspire NX.KDHSA.004 laptop's 15.6-inch display with 1920 x 1080 resolution allows you to show off what your graphics card can do. Hold onto your entire family's important applications and digital archives with its 128 GB solid state drive.

I mean its comedy at this point.

What can the non existant gpu do? your family mustn't have a lot of files given its only 128gb

          • @tonyjzx: "You can play fast action games with this Acer Aspire laptop's 0.8 MHz processor"
I lost it at that description 🤣

      • My old Intel Atom netbook ran Starcraft and Diablo 2 quite well. I'd imagine this would be a step up (assuming you can get those games running on Win11).

Can’t believe 4gb ram laptop still exist, even mobile phone has like 6 - 8gb minimum

This laptop's 10-hour battery life lets you go on listening to music and sending e-mails for as long as you need to.
It's a smart pick for traveling on business with ease

    Who the heck writes these.

According to Acer it has an NVME SSD, guess NVME flash storage has come down enough in price that they no longer have to cut corners by using emmc memory

Rtings has a review on a slightly more powerful unit with N305 CPU and 8GB RAM. It appears to use soldered memory.

    • +2

Soldered ram means this is e-waste. I thought there was hope that it could be used as a linux server like those mini-PCs with integrated screen and keyboard for management purposes while also basically having a UPS in the form of a battery, but alas.

  • +6

A 4 or 5 year old refurb business lappy is probably a better choice…

  • +2

I've seen some of these on aliexpress for very cheap and these are my thoughts: they're repurposed mini-pc's made into a notebook form factor where every single corner has been cut to keep the price down.

What they're used for is probably stuff which requires long screen-on time like taking notes in long meetings and lectures, spreadsheeting and maybe watching youtube in 1080p. The processor bottlenecks in demanding tasks but in return you get low power consumption, a quiet and cool laptop which lasts a long time and can be charged via the usb-c (on some of the models i've seen)

  • I'd say the TV is the real deal here. 60" for $699 is an excellent bargain.

    • +2

      Indeed it's a sharp deal!

    • Really, I wasn't too impressed. 65" has hit $600 before

  • +2

Thanks OP. It's actually a very good basic laptop. Obviously 4gb is not enough for gaming. But for general usage, it's fine.

The N100 is way better than the Celeron & Pentium Intels.

    • Indeed, any basic laptop device can be useful if the user understands what they're working with.

I use to use a 10" netbook with Intel Atom chipset for note taking and on the go report writing during my Masters. The trick was to make sure I got to class in advance not just to get a good seat but also have enough time to boot up the device and load up my pdf and word documents. I liked that netbook as it had 10hrs battery life and was very portable.

Had this laptop been a smaller device, I probably would have bought it to replace my aging Acer Switch.

  • HOW MANY CHROME TABS?

    • I'd say at least 6 to 10 without having more than 2 or 3 programs open.

      Enough for many people.

    • 2 or 3 before you start dipping into swap

  • Can anyone who has this laptop see if it can be charged via usb C PD ?

    • +1

From the images, it can. It has the charging symbol next to the usb c port.

      • Thanks. As I am a travelling nomad on the go, I much prefer to charge all my needs via usb A/C as I don't

have to break out the 240 v inverter and power brick which saves time, power and much more convenient.

This feature is a Must now for any laptop I buy, hence I love Chromebooks as they have had that for

years now and many models even have a USB C PD charging capable port both sides.

So that line with 3 dots underneath next to the barrel port as well as the usb C port means charging capable then?

In older models they used to/have different pictures/symbols for charging if I'm remembering right?

        • +1

It's has USB C charging and display output and ram is ddr 5.

        • +2

Yes. Line and dot means DC in.

  • The N305 model has no RAM slot to expand 4GB to either 8-12GB total.

Can anyone confirm if it is the same for this model?

    • +1

Just a guess here but "most likely", hence the really low price.

Got caught out with a similar Acer 15" laptop ( also FHD screen ) some years ago also from The Good Guys,

some years ago when soldering ram was just getting introduced on motherboards for 15" laptops.

That was around $300 and did not have usb C at all.

Nearly pulled the trigger on this, but need to repair/sell 2 other devices/laptops first, and really don't want a

new laptop without Backlit Keyboard lol.

    • This is the A315-510P-C7C8 model. The ACER site gives no clues

  • +1

This laptop is trash, 4GB RAM is just not enough unless you are just using it as a thin client.

  • +2

Purchased one as a cheap couch toy. Runs Manjaro like a champ. Everything - wifi, touchpad etc works immediately except for bluetooth. Tested a variety of media, everything works perfect, as expected with the new N100. RAM hasn't been an issue, don't think I've gone over 3.4GB yet. W11 likely a whole different story.

    • 4k video output possible? Or lag?

      • +1

4K .mkv, yes. No lag. I haven't tested proprietary like Netflix or Prime tho.

  • +1

Just bought and picked up one of these last night.

It isn't gonna play games or anything but I needed a cheap laptop for life admin since my work have started locking down our laptops and monitoring apps.
Am also looking to travel next year so having a nice cheap laptop that I'm not gonna freak out about losing/breaking is good.

Very short experience so far but it is exactly what I was after. Great little (cheap laptop)

  • USB Type-C port supporting: USB 3.2 Gen 2 (up to 10 Gbps), DisplayPort over USB-C, USB charging 5 V; 3 A, DC-in port 19 V; 45 W

    https://www.acer.com/au-en/laptops/aspire/aspire-3-intel/pdp…

  • This thing has no microSD slot right?

    • Nope.

      • Cheers for confirming. That's a shame. A 512Gb microSD would have helped alleviate the limited storage.

I'm guessing at least half the SSD is used up by windows 11 leaving about 50Gb for Office, files, etc. Not much space.

Old 90s/2000s PC games or emulators would be the go to gaming options. Maybe some Tiberian Sun.

        • Just replace the SSD. I did.

          • @Typical16-bitEnjoyer: I considered that but if the cost increases, I'm more inclined to wait and purchase something better.

I've actually been wanting a 13" windows based 2-in-1 with stylus and some modern gaming capability but haven't seen anything I fancy. I was considering the current Galaxy Tab at one point even but I really do need Windows.

But a sub $300 laptop as a back up if my desktop dies (since I'm operating without a back up laptop atm) is very tempting.

  • laptops are gone

  • I need a laptop but gone

  • I went to the Good Guys today and they still had it on the shelf for $274. It's a cool laptop, just short on ram.

  • I took some pictures of the CPU-Z from this laptop.

I have not been able to get past 2.7ghz for the cpu even though I read it can boost to 3.4ghz
