This post contains affiliate links. OzBargain might earn commissions when you click through and make purchases. Please see this page for more information.

This is from the US store so you will need a US account/US Address to buy them. I'm pretty sure a lot of people have their Kindle registered this way. These might be cheaper from the Australian link but I doubt it.

why are you listed as an amazon REP?

    • +2

It actually says REF, he had referral/affiliate links to start with, has since removed them but the REF has remained.

        ahhh thanks!

  • All fixed now thank you again :)

  • Anyone interested in this kind of thing should check out Books on the Knob - they update their lists dynamically so always up to date: http://blog.booksontheknob.org/p/deeply-discounted-books.htm…

and Amazon's regular 100 books for $3.99 or less.

Like the above deal, not everything is available for AU accounts, very frustrating but them's the brakes.

  • I've heard a rumour that Amazon spies on Kindle users so they know everything that you do with that device.
and you can't remove their little 'spy' from the device.

    is this true?

    • Uh, they don't need to "spy" on you dude. You buy books through Amazon, more often than not, back up your books with Amazon, and when you buy them there is an IP detector that will register if you're trying to buy US books from outside the US.

Don't really know where spying comes into it, everything they want to know - ie your book and amazon buying habits - they can know without any need for "spies".

They keep track of how far you've read in each book, as well as any bookmarks you've set, and any text you've highlighted, and any notes you've written in the book.

That's either "spying" or "really handy"; depending on your point of view. In my case, it's really handy - I like being able to sync where I'm up to across devices, and I like being able to see on my phone what I've highlighted on my Kindle at home. I like being able to tell people about a great bit in a book I'm reading, pull out my phone, and then go to the bookmark and read it to them.

I don't know if it does that with books you haven't bought through Amazon, if that's what you're worried about.

  • The free ones listed aren't available for free

    • Just checked - they do if you have a US Amazon account.

Can recommend the Wool series takes a moment to get started but after that it's really good I'm up to the 5th book can't read em fast enough :)

I usually go to this URL for their monthly "100 books under $3.99" US Kindle specials:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/?&plgroup=1&docId=1000…

  • Can anyone teach me how to get the US account?

    • +1

This assumes you already have an account with Amazon with Aussie payment details.

1)Make a new account with an alternate email address.

2)Add any U.S. address as billing address.

3)Use your main Amazon account to send gift card with an amount totalling whatever you want to buy from U.S. Kindle bookstore.

      4) Log into the alternate account and buy the books.

Works well if you use separate browsers for each account.

I would recommend that anyone using these sort of methods look into the process of setting your books free. This ensures that you safely have your books backed up should your Amazon account get locked for any reason. For further details on freeing your books Google the Apprentice Alf Blog

  • American Gods and Black Prism, hell yes.

  • My US Amazon account I used to buy a game before isn't working now. These links all just say "title not available in Australia".

Does Amazon US require a VPN now?

    • Sometimes the publisher of the game will make Amazon block the sale to other regions. VPN might help.

Go to Amazon.com - Your Account - Manage my Kindle - Country Settings (it's on the lower left) make sure it says United States

      • Thank you. Never would have found this, and it worked.

Now I just have to figure out how to read it on my phone.

It already has my Oz Kindle account on it, anyone know if I can sign in as my US account? Can I safely do Settings - De-register device (and register another account) without losing any of my books?

      • Can I do that with my oz account? just swap to US address lol

  • if i buy a amazon kindle fire HD will i be able to buy content from the amazon store or do i have to live in america?

    thanks
