New Sony CMTCX5BIPB Slim Micro Hi-Fi System Black $90 + $19.95 Shipping from GraysOnline

231

These are brand new, discontinued stock and I think were over $200 when first released.
I bought one of these a few weeks back for $99 + shipping and now I see they have dropped a further $9 so decided to share.
I am very happy with this unit for the price I paid.

Brief specs:
20W rms per channel
DAB+ and FM tuners
iPod dock
CD player
Audio iIN

As ryang points out below you might get a further $10 off by using a coupon on graysoutlet rather than graysonline (same company).

  • Thanks OP, was looking at getting one of these maybe a year ago, and now I've been reminded. Great price.

  • Hmmm great price, tempted, but nothing online suggests speakers are detachable? Can anybody confirm if they can be detached?

Looks like they can, if this white one is anything to go by

      • Thanks zzyss …. Purchased :) Will make a great Christmas present for mum (yes I start my Christmas shopping in Oct/Nov)..

        • +1

shrug I bought it as a Christmas present for my wife :-)

Bugger! I bought a pre-christmas present for myself!

    • The speakers are actually separate and don't clip together at all.
Just makes it a bit awkward to move around if you wind up the speaker cables under the clip cover at the back of the main unit.

  • Bummer. If only this came a few weeks ago and deal could be stacked with the Amex Network offer. Hehe…

    • … or the free $20 for that matter.

Grays Outlet (same company, diff site) have it for exactly the same price, but they have a $10 off coupon. Brings it under $100 with shipping!

        Coupon: GO1003

        • EDIT: dammit can't cancel if bought through Grays Online… (Outlet has 7 day change of mind but apparently I used Grays Online :-( )

  • Does anyone know if this unit has an alarm clock function? I tried looking online quickly but couldn't find any mention of this.

    • I just had a quick look through the manual.
It has a sleep timer and a play timer.
You can set the play timer to turn on at a preset time and then off again at another preset time using whatever sound source you choose.

    • Your iPod has a clock and alarm… use those.

    • Thanks for the info OBone - I should have thought to look into the manual myself.

  • Thanks just placed an order through the outlet with the $10 off coupon!

Not a bad deal. But, you can get it cheaper at dick smiths - $79 in store only, no delivery.

    Here's the link - http://dicksmith.com.au/product/AE3684/sony-slim-hifi-w-dock…

    • Even better! Are they brand new or display stock though?
Dickies is having a bit of a fire sale lately, it seems!
But if you prefer white you can always pay a little bit extra …

    • The one at Dick Smith's doesn't have a DAB tuner, unjustified NEG!

    • One letter difference, vastly different model - $249 vs. $179 RRP brand new…

      vs.

Aside from digital radio (albeit very important), the specs on Sony site also seem to imply the higher model has a USB port which the other one doesn't.

      • Yes, you 2 are quite correct! Thanks for pointing that out.
Tricky Dickie is selling the cheaper model, not the one I posted here with the DAB tuner.
My eyesight is failing me, I didn't see the difference in those model numbers till just now..
But that cheaper model is the one with USB, not the one I posted, unfortunately.
Though it's not quite as elegant, mp3's could still be played from another mp3 player through Audio IN.
(I don't own an iPod and didn't buy it for that reason)
        Unjustified NEG indeed.

        • I agree, total unjustified NEG!

  • Got it today, very impressed with it. It did default to demo mode when in standy, but that was easily turned off by pressing "DISPLAY" on the remote.
