Motherboard prices are still out of hand, saw this deal thought I will give it a post. Cheapest local price is $369 at PLE Computers (not including delivery), please correct me if I am wrong.

Also, the wifi version for $268 but only one left in stock on amazon as well. Have ordered the wifi version but will still be on the lookout for a local product if there were any warranty issues, though amazon has been great to deal with in this regards in the past.

EDIT: Link to the Wifi and bluetooth version for $268 (Stock updated with 4 in stock now) - https://www.amazon.com.au/ASUS-Gaming-B650-PLUS-Motherboard-…

  • I wasn't going to start my new build just yet but this is very hard to pass up.

    • +1

Yeah, felt the same and got one. I am slowly collecting parts in the last two months, so hoping to have everything soon to start the build.

      • I was going to get a Gigabyte mobo but I couldn't pass this up!

        • +1

Good on ya! There is also wifi version for $10 more, though only 1 left, if you didnt already grab that.

          • +1

@morpheous: Nah grabbed the one posted, don't need wifi on my PC.

            • +2

@stuffandthat: WiFi version also includes Bluetooth. Something to consider.

              • @HomeAlone: Yeah, I wanted in built wifi and bluetooth, so didn't mind paying $17 more.

            • @stuffandthat: Reading the specs, it looks like Asus is putting Intel AX200 (Wifi 6) into the WiFi version. Probably can get the WiFi 6E add on card version from AliExpress if needed. Or, if you really want to, the Wifi 7 version is out as well (but double the price).

  • this is a great deal. i paid 350 for B650 MSI Edge (white tax)

Even a full size ATX. i would have brought this.

    • +1

I wanted white too as I have a white build in the making but at this point I have given up. It is going to be tuxedo build now haha

      • +1

dont worry it will look fine. to be honest the MSI Edge has some white, but i cant really see most of it.

Dragon IO panel is blocked by air cooler. SSD cover are mostly blocked by GPU.

So just go for the cheap/good quality board.

Unless you can find a white PCB which is very rare for B650.

        • Thank you, you are right its going to be mostly covered up! And yeah, the price of computing has gone so ridiculously high, you need to save wherever you can. I haven't even decided on the GPU and CPU yet given the state of the market.

  • +1

    Good deal

VRM is 12+2 60A DrMOS (6+2 with doubler)

  • I ordered the same wifi one also that still says one left? Hope they don't cancel or the count is wrong.

    • Listing updated with 4 more in stock! So you should be alright!

      • +1

and Amazon UK just updated from 1 available to 4 available and up to 999 per order on backorder.

    • Thats a M-ATX or a mini atx version of the same motherboard if you are after one and not a bad price either!

      • Thanks. I should have probably worded my question better as I didn't realise the one you posted is ATX.

    • +1

Weaker VRM, deal mobo is much better value

    • At this price point, Asus TUF Gaming is better. It has PCIe gen 4 x4 slot (even if it shares with the 3rd m.2 slot), Thunderbolt header support, more ports.

Asus TUF Gaming B650M-E is that it doesn't have the PCIe gen 4 x4 slot and weaker VRM. Also, the current record holder for mATX is Asrock B650m HDV/m.2 for $160 (that has PCIe gen 4 x4 slot, and Thunderbolt header). B650M-E does have 2 DisplayPorts, and WiFi included.

      • Theyre both TUF lol but I assume you mean the PLUS?

        • +1

Yes, ASUS TUF GAMING B650-PLUS. Too many SKUs. Honestly, unless you really need/want an AM5 system now, it is not worthwhile to commit too much to a first gen AM5 motherboard.

AM5's stability is inferior to AM4 so far. If JayzTwoCents is reporting memory / stability issues with AM5 (and moved back to Intel), are you certain you will be able to setup a stable system? He did use 7950X3D, which may not be the best choice if stability is important.

My limited experience on AM5 is that when it works properly, it is great. However, the memory support is still iffy and each BIOS with AGESA update can make things better or worse. A lot of load tests needed (as plain traditional memory test won't be enough). Then, even if memory context restore on, from time to time, motherboard still wants to do a memory re-train. Having a tempered glass case is useful because you do want to see the LED debug lights or if you have a high end board, diagnostic code number.

  • Nice! I was aiming for a cheaper one (MSI gaming plus wifi), but this is even cheaper. Let's hope I won't need any RMA on this mobo though! Got the wifi version :)

    • Cheers! Hoping the same

  • Got the wifi one after watching reviews. Great find thanks!

    • You are welcome!

  • MSI on sale im waiting for, reviews of this board show its sale price point is what it should be normally. Rear IO isnt great with usb set up.

    • Havent seen this on sale before for this price besides the $15 deal but this is a good mid range motherboard from the reviews. Agree on the Rear IO setup though.

Going to keep an eye out still for other motherboards in case there is a deal, as this is with Amazon the returns are easy.

  • This was $15 more expensive a few months ago, the one i want to come back is the MSI Carbon: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/788120

    • Yeah, would love that deal! ASUS didnt handle the whole new gen thing that great either, so not a big fan of them. This motherboard however is a good mid range option and this should be the regular price but these are the times.

    • MSI Carbon is interesting because it does PCIe Bifurcation to provide 2 additional m.2 slots that are wired directly to the CPU (so 3 in total wired to the CPU + 1 wired to the chipset). However, some people don't like this approach because the x16 slot drops to x8 so some people are uncomfortable of running the GPU in x8 mode.

Technically, that x8 x4 x4 support is better and generally is only available to high end boards. WiFi 6E, BIOS flashback on USB 3.2 gen 2 port, clear CMOS at the back etc are nice… The only nitpick is lack of Thunderbolt 4 header support.

      • Thanks for that info! Do you reckon there will be more deals to come? Black friday have been a let down in the last few years unfortunately.

Also, do you reckon this can be paired with CORSAIR Vengeance RGB DDR5 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 5600 (PC5-44800) C36 1.25V AMD Expo Memory Kit?

I am still getting my head around the RAMs and their different configuration.

        • +1

For AM5, check the motherboard's memory QVL and find out the memory die type. I strongly recommend you go with SK Hynix M or A die (if you can afford A die, get A die based kit, if you are tight on budget, M die is okay). Even if you get SK Hynix M or A die kit, it doesn't mean trouble free. However, if you don't, then you could end up with more headache. Don't even think about 4 DIMMs for DDR5.

Anyway, that memory kit you mentioned, I doubt it is SK Hynix A die. I don't even think it is SK Hynix M die. There is also "Micron" A die so be careful not to mix up with SK Hynix A die. DDR5 5600 CL36 is pretty average. I strongly recommend you buy RAM modules from a retailer or online store with great (preferably no question asked, including change of mind) return policy.

AGESA for AM5, once again, is work in progress. Once again, typical AMD. Motherboard makers don't release them promptly and there isn't one motherboard maker that's always the best / most consistent. For example, both this Asus and MSI boards' latest BIOSes support AGESA AM5 1.0.8.0. A lot of Asrock boards don't have that version, but this week, Asrock released BIOSes based on AGESA AM5 1.1.0.0. 1.0.8.0 is fine though as 1.1.0.0 mainly introduces support for upcoming CPUs.

Anyway, really stress test your AM5 system once you set it up. Do not take any blue screen of death lightly on AM5 (most likely a RAM issue). It's actually better now because older AM5 AGESA versions take ages to do memory training. Latest BIOS versions are a lot better now (generally less than 30 seconds for memory training nowadays). Memory context restore does cut the BIOS boot down to less than 5 seconds but on occasions, memory re-train will still happen. It might still take a bit of time to get used to, especially if you have / had a B550 AM4 or Intel based system finishing BIOS boot within 5 seconds or less.

          • +1

@netsurfer: I feel you are over blowing the issue. does am5 has issue with ram yes. But it is not end of world. Majority of issue is going with ram kit higher than 6000 speed.

I haven't heard much case of people having issue with 6000 and below speed. Unless you are talking about 64gb ram or 4 ram stick

2 stick of 16 or 24 GB each. 6000 expo ideal then you should be fine.

            • @jenesis33: I'm looking at getting 64gb RAM, is there a general safe spec to get with these or is it just hit or miss?

              • +1

@GrabOzB: my suggestion would be checking your MB supported ram list and see if there is any 64 gb on the list.

For example, i checked G.SKill ram on my MSI B650 Edge. I can see there is one set supported 4 slots. (16X4=64GB)

Can run 6000 mhz as well.G.SKIL-F5-6000J3038F16GX2-TZ5N

                https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MPG-B650-EDGE-WIFI/support#m…

There are also numerous 32X2 set been supported, so I would go with 2 slots if you can. 4 slots will give you more issue.

Not saying you have to buy G.Skill, just example.

Now this is not 100% complete safe. But i would start there.

Maybe get confirmation from shop as well, ask if you can return/exchange if it doesnt work.

                • @jenesis33: Thank you so much for the information!! Gives me something to go off of! Appreciate it!!

            • @jenesis33: The memory kit I had to return was DDR5-5200. It simply won't boot properly with 2 DIMMs. It was a Corsair kit. With DDR5-5200, memory re-training is fast even with old version of BIOS. That RAM kit isn't in the motherboard's QVL. However, that kit's timing values aren't aggressive at all. I have never had an issue with a PC that managed to boot to BIOS and then freezes in BIOS until AM5 with that DDR5-5200 (zero overclocking, only 32GB total RAM, memory context restore off).

An OZBer had SK Hynix A-die, with the latest BIOS, it blue screened.

In JayzTwoCents' video, he gradually dropped the DDR5 RAM kit frequency all the way down. Surely he has quality RAM kits.

Unless you are talking about 64gb ram or 4 ram stick

I wasn't. I already pointed out don't bother with 4 DIMMs setup with DDR5. However, that does mean at best, we are hoping future AM5 CPU generations will have better DDR5 support.

I am not indicating you cannot go DDR5-6400, but you are already pointing out don't go there for AM5. Currently, with my AM5 motherboard, every time I want to upgrade the BIOS, It requires I change the memory to DDR5-4800 first. After the BIOS upgrade, I can then change it back to EXPO setting (DDR5-6000).

              • @netsurfer: thanks for sharing this info. It looks like AM5 are just not good with RAM now. I would seriously suggest anyone start with QVL list from MB provider.

          • @netsurfer: Thank you for that! Gotta be careful with these rams as there have been known issues with them and trial and error is the best way to go about it.

  • +1

Bluetooth/Wifi version is now OOS (backorder only)

  • the m2 slots, is it better to buy m2 with heatsink or without?

    • M2 slots already have a heatsink included with this motherboard. Image 3 of the product on Amazon for reference

  • Damn, just bought one for $365. I could've bought this but also I probably couldn't wait the nearly 2 months with my CPU and RAM just sitting there - and it would probably result in a Generational spaceship problem (kinda - basically, i'd get one in the meantime as they lower in price here and ship quicker).

Meh. Extra 2 months of speedy PC, I guess that's not too bad either.

    • Yeah, enjoy your build. Waiting game sucks, especially when you have half of the parts that you cant do anything with.
