The IE200s are pretty decent for that price imo.

    • Yup, especially since they all use the same underlying driver!

      • Underlying design, you'll find there'll be cost cutting measures on the housing and the driver construction.

        • “ The IE 200 takes advantage of some of the best in-ear technology we have to offer. The 7mm extra-wideband True Response transducer, for instance, exhibits virtually no harmonic distortion at all. That’s why you’ll also find it in our IE 300, IE 600 and IE 900.”

          • @Kazusa: Yeah, and I'm telling you they'll be playing around with the magnets, the wiring, the materials that tie these to the speaker cone and the rest of the driver, then playing around with the materials in the housing and cables to drive costs down.

Each subsequent model down the stack will reflect this, and that the driver variant they assembled it around had lower tolerances when tested.

If it was always the exact same driver, they'd figure out a way to sell the IE900 for $300-$500 and make a fortune, but that's not how manufacturing works at the bleeding edge of science and engineering.

    • do they get any cheaper?

  • HD800s is 1619$, not as good as last time 😂

  • Christ that's a good price on the IE 600, nabbed for 715 on the last deal. Would take over variations etc.

    • Do the 600s have the same connector/cable issue as the 300 where the sound would cut out completely?

      • +1

I replaced the cable with a Tripowin Zonie and haven't had any issues with it - much better fit than the stock cable.

    • This is apples and oranges - but do you know how the IE600 compares to the ThieAudio Monarch 2 & 3? I'm looking at upgrading my 7Hz Timeless, but I don't want to be left wanting for more. I've reached a point with my headphones and desktop speakers where I can't see myself upgrading for years to come, I'd like to get to the same point with IEMs.

Tried both, the Monarch shell is very large so if you have smaller ears it might be rather uncomfortable. The treble and bass on the IE600s are quite extended, especially the treble that may seem harsh to many but I quite like it, quite unique for a high end IEM. Otherwise the tuning is quite balanced and the tiny shell is a bonus, can barely feel it in your ears. For 629 the IE600 is a no brainer, enough for me to instantly buy it. But then again make sure you demo it if you can, it's definitely not for those sensitive to treble.

I've demoed the Monarchs, they are huge - but surprisingly managed to get a pretty comfortable fit with both the 2 & the 3. The sound quality was incredible, a significant step up from the Timeless. Good to know about the treble on the IE600, I am sensitive to treble - but have previously enjoyed Sennheiser's tuning on their IEMs, will demo for sure. Thanks for sharing!

I'm really hoping the competition in the Chifi space will lead to Monarch performance in the $5-700 range soon.

          • @poppingtags:

lead to Monarch performance in the $5-700 range soon.

Moondrop S8 is close to that price and performance.

        I actually own the Monarch Mk3 (and owned and sold U12T + Mest Mk2 + IER-M9).
The IE600 has better bass (and especially sub-bass) and a lot better comfort, whereas the MMK3 has better midrange overall, and is a bit better technically.
For treble, the IE600 (imo) has better timbre but it is also brighter, whereas the MMK3 sounds more detailed.

        • So, you rate the Monarch 3 over the U12T , Mest II and M9 ?

          That's interesting.

The only IEM which I have demo listened to,
out of all those 4 above, is the U12T.

The U12T didn't grab me so much, except that I found it a little more resolving
than the Monarch 2, which I already like a lot.
(It pairs very nicely to a balanced R-2R DAC )

I'm just very curious to hear the Mest 2 and M9,
both I have read/heard reviews are very good.

I'm curious because I can see the rabbit-hole is deeper…. haha

About a year ago, my first IEM in this world of "ChiFi" was the 7Hz Timeless (a blind purchase).
I instantly didn't like it, as it was too tinny and not my preference.

Then, it was the Moondrop Blessing 2 (another blind purchase).
That is/was an awesome IEM, for the price and from what my 'reference point' was,
ie. I didn't have any good IEMs before, and I was always cheap with these kind of things.

Then, I just made the jump in the last few months,
as I found the Blessing 2 'shouty',
and I have ended up with Monarch 2 and IE 600 , as my "end game" IEMs, hah.

Now, either of them will be an instantly big upgrade from the 7Hz Timeless.

        IE 600 at $600 prices , becomes a no-brainer.
The bass is great and not overpowering.
Treble is nice and you hear hi-hats, cymbals very clearly.
The thing is, the treble can be "spicy" but that also depends
on the kind of music, the quality of music (streaming, mp3, etc.)
and the mastering of that song.

At the moment, the Monarch II is 2x or 2.5x the price of the IE 600.
        Is it 2x "better"?
That's a subjective question, but I can say that the Monarch II mid-range
is very nice, and overall there is good balance & coherence when listening to it.
It's a "safe" tuning, and it doesn't have the bass slam
nor the extended treble of IE 600.
When you listen to the Monarch II, you miss those elements of the IE 600,
but you also don't miss them, because everything the Monarch II does,
it does it "together", meaning…it just makes it all 'work',
by compromising other elements which shine in the IE 600.

If comparing Monarch II and IE 600, the Monarch II experience is more satisfying
and more 'complete' in comparison with musicality, whereas IE 600 is just more fun.

I have demo'd the IE 900 and got the temptation to get this at sub ~$1100 prices,
but I am still kind of undecided if it's better than the Monarch II.
It feels similar because IE 900 improves what the IE 600 lacks, ie. midrange.
IE 900 still has good bass and toned down treble, but uplifted midrange.

The most important thing about the Sennheiser IEMs are,
they are well-built, light-weight and very comfortable to wear.
I've read of some connector issues (for which case, you better hope there's warranty to fix them),
        but I've had no issues with the 'raised' MMCX connector;
the swivel motion is kind of neat.

It's just that the cabling of the Sennheiser IE 600 kind of sucks…because it's "sticky"
and not flexible, ie. it's not cloth or braided.
The IE 600 doesn't have multi-plug options, so you get 2 x cables in the box, ie. 3.5mm and 4.4mm

The ThieAudio cables are very good.
They are well-made, multi-plug connectors and don't have 'memory-cable' issues of IE 600.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I absolutely loved the Monarchs - will have to try and demo the IE600 sometime!

          • @poppingtags: why "loved" ?

Did you move on from them ?

Which Monarch did you have ?

            • +1

@whyisave: Oh "loved" because I only got to demo them, couldn't justify buying them haha! Demoed both the 2 & the 3, preferred the 3 slightly over the 2 - but really enjoyed them both.

              • @poppingtags: I don't like bass , so I went for the Monarch 2.
without hearing the Monarch 3 either.

I wish the Monarch 2 had the IE 600 bass and treble.
Then, I felt it would be 'more' complete….

…but IEM-lyfe is just about struggling to stay contented, ha

Christ that's a good price on the IE 600

This, this is what got me over the line…

  • ie200 isnt competitive anymore unless you're looking for the size and fit when truthear zero red exists for half the price

    • I actually prefer the Hola over the Zero Red, and would put the Hexa as a IE200 competitor instead of the Zero Red.

  • Hey how much bass am I going to get powering IE600 with a macbook pro. I got some LETSHUOER S12 Planars and they are good for DJing but I don't get enough low frequency response to produce music plugging them into my macbook. Would these be any different or am I stuck with open back cans?

    • Substantially more. Unless your macbook's audio out is damaged.

    • +1

The macbook audio output is actually really good - I think you may have a potential seal issue, because the S12 are very bassy already.

The IE600 bass is significantly better in terms of macro and micro detail as well as timbre, but the amount is not much more than the S12.

Neither will be affected that much by source impedence.

    • You can try the 'tricks' of the IE 600 ear-tips,
      eg.

      - pulling or pushing the tip down the stem

      - removing the inner foam (inside the Sennheiser tips )

  • When clicking on the "Buy Now" links for the IEM on the webpage,
there is no response, ie. it does not add any IEMs to the shopping cart.

Anyone had better luck trying, or testing , to buy ?
