Politics aside, WHO is reporting 1 Palestinian children is murdered by IDF every 10mins. Between your post and mine, 17 innocent children are dead. Nothing justifies Oct 7 and nothing justifies Oct 8, Oct 9, Oct 10, Oct 11…
        Humanity first.

        • -3

Right, but Hamas did Oct 7 in a time of ceasefire, when Israel was spending opportunities to Gazans.

They have since said they will do it again and again until Israel no longer stands.

So what is Israel's alternative to extinguishing Hamas?

(Try to answer the question without mentioning the human shields Hamas hides behind, just to see what answers bubble up.)

          • +1

@Wolfenstein98k: Leave their lands, stop the aparthied, stop the systematic cleansing thats been happening for years. No amount of zionists dictating the media rhetoric will change the truth, which the day will come the oppressors will not be escaping from. You only have to see the nations of the past and their downfall and destruction. There was no Israel 100 years ago. British and French carved it out of Arab lands for the Jews. Will there be a nation of Israel going forwards? Israel is making sure it won't be with its excessive aggression. History always repeats itself. It's just a matter of time.

@spy: Someone's been getting their information from Tiktoks I see…

              • +1

@BargainCowboy: Honestly, anything is better than the zionist propaganda machine that is the majority of mainstream media and western governments.

If you disagree, then look up something called the 'Hasbara Manual' - the propaganda playbook that the zionists have published. Once you've read it, you'll see it everywhere you look.

Here is a good read on it if you were interested.

@DaiShan: I love it how people who lack knowledge of basic history and have never been to any of these countries or even that region think they know best. It's all one big conspiracy, isn't it? They yap about genocide whilst the numbers aren't even coming close to that definition. I guess gen Z prefers going with whatever's trending rather than actual FACTS.

                  • +2

@BargainCowboy: Plenty of condescending dismissal in your response, but since you're so interested in FACTS then perhaps you should, for your own sake, read up on a few things.

                    1. I referred you to the Hasbara manual. This is a document published by Israeli propaganda groups about how to steer the conversation. This is a cold, hard fact of reality. Don't take my word for it - read the article I sent, and read the Hasbara manual for yourself.
                    2. Pretty awful way to engage with the death of over 11k civilians, 4k of which are children. I really suggest you check your tone and your own humanity.
                    3. The term genocide, fortunately for us, is defined by international law. Many independent human rights organisations, and incredibly well credentialed human rights lawyers have described it as a genocide. I trust the expert's opinions - human rights lawyers with education and decades of experience. Can you please give a little info on your background, and why you feel you're qualified to say it's not a genocide? Please also lay out the case of why this isn't a genocide, and if not, what is it? Merely a horrific war crime?

You should probably try and engage with the substance of the discussion rather than relying on pathetic ad hominem attacks.

                    • -3

                      @DaiShan:

                      1. I can refer you to multiple guides and manuals on how to kill infidels - take the Quran for instance. So?

                      2. War is a terrible thing, no one likes to kill and certainly not to die. However the Arabs in this region have a rich history of starting wars they cannot win. The Oct 7th attack is one of them, those who celebrated with baklava and candy are now refugees. The classic example of f-ck around and find out.

                      3. You rely on "experts" opinion? lol, every person has agenda, for every "expert" you find there is a counterpart that calls out bullocks.

Would rather not discuss my background, let's say I worked in the region for many years, have friends on both sides and the media brainwashes people to follow the Palestinian narrative out of fear of local Muslim population torching buildings, as often seen in France, UK, etc. So, unlike most, I have actually been to all these places.

                      • +2

                        @BargainCowboy:

                        1. Ah, there it is. Islamaphobia rears its ugly head. It's also completely irrelevant to what we were discussing, which is propaganda. I directed you to the zionist propaganda manual, which has nothing to do with justifying killing. As someone familiar with the FACTS, I'm shocked that you don't know this. Perhaps you're not quite as informed as you think you are.
                        2. Everything you said is repugnant, but at least you're clear that you absolutely support the slaughter of civilians. Clearly, discussing humanity, human rights, and international law is completely pointless with someone so devoid of humanity.
                        3. Yes, I do rely on the opinions of people who are objective, independent, and educated. You should too. But again, it's clear you're more driven by hatred than truth. You do you buddy.

I asked you about your credentials on international law. Nothing you said spoke to that.

I'm going to stop responding at this point. Speaking with bigoted racist who revels with joy in the slaughter of innocents makes me feel gross. I need a shower.

                        • -2

@DaiShan: Ahh yes, the "racist" card always wins! What a glorious way to avoid answering hard questions! I guess the Egyptian government is also driven by Islamophobia! Or for that matter, the entire Arab world, as literally no country wants to have these people…

                • +1

@DaiShan: A truly eye opening read, and so so accurate and so so true. You can see exactly how the Zionist lobbies script and control the rhetoric so meticulously to the extent that blatant and absurd fabrications are passed off as facts, and the real facts don't even surface. And then come in the desperate reinforcements (willingly or under duress) in the face of mounting criticism like ringing in a bunch of have beens to publicly express their support. I mean who cares what Scott Morrison thinks and his expression of support and his visits to Israel as a statement of solidarity.

                  • +2

@spy: Absolutely. It was one of the most compelling things that I've read on this. Once you see it, you can't un-see it. I think the article I sent is essential reading for all

          • +2

@Wolfenstein98k: If Hamas is hiding in Israel hospital, what will IDF do?
I'm coming from a forward looking POV as it's impossible to discuss the past via chats.
The solution is both sides need to change their governments, follow international law and provide equal rights to both.
For the sake of humanity, ceasefire first.

            • -2

@cmyk: Exactly, ceasefire first so Hamas has a decent chance to move the hostages to a more covert location, rearm and regroup! How dare they disrupt their resistance?!

              • +2

@BargainCowboy: Tell me, what's the "exchange rate" for a Palestinian life vs Israeli life today? Currently about 10k is dead. How many is enough?

                • -1

@cmyk: What was the exchange rate of Brits:Nazis? I would say about the same.

                  • +1

                    @BargainCowboy: Following a playbook eh?
Won't go into false equivalence discussion. I've stated a solution that considers human lives. If you're adamant that Palestinians are just a number, i have no words for the lack of humanity. Sleep well!

          • +2

@Wolfenstein98k: Try to talk about Palestinians as humans, and not dehumanising language such as 'human shields'. They are humans, worthy of respect, dignity, compassion, and human rights.

They deserve those human rights to be respected. Do you disagree?

          • +1

@Wolfenstein98k: Yes but the difference is that Israel not only has openly said they will do genocide, they have the power and international support to do it. And that's exactly what's happening.

At 11,000 civilians killed, Israel is either highly incompetent in minimising civilian casualties or brutally ruthless and merciless and cares nothing for Palestinians. So, which is it?

Since you're so interested in what Hamas is saying, I thought you may also be interested in what Israel is saying. See link below:

            https://normanfinkelstein.substack.com/p/fighting-amalek-in-…

            • -3

@DaiShan: Can you share with us the definition of genocide? I'm not sure you know what it means.

      • +1

Address root cause first. You forgot to mention the illegal occupation and land grabs and illegal settlemens and years of rule worse than aparthied. Israel has shamelessly commited some heinous atrocities over the years against these people. Stop doing these things and people won't get so desperate.

      • +2
        1. Israel has imposed an illegal blockade of Gaza which has been described as an open-air prison. So that means over 1 million CHILDREN have lived their entire lives in prison, simply for being Palestinian.
        2. Israel imposes and bigoted and racist apartheid regime where Palestinians don't have the same liberty and dignity as Israelis do.
        3. This 'hamas hospitals' playbook is tired and false. Many doctors who have actually worked at these hospitals have come out and said there is NO EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER of Hamas operating out of these hospitals.
        4. Independent organisation have reviewed this and have concluded that there is NO EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER of Hamas using these hospitals.
        5. Even if Hamas were using hospitals, this does not give Israel the right to simply destroy them under International Law. Don't take my word for it, refer to any number of human rights lawyers who make this point.

One final question for you to think about. If Hamas were hiding under an Israeli hospital, filled to the brim with sick, elderly, injured, and newborn Israelis, do you think Israel should also bomb that hospital?
If the answer is no, then it means that you think Palestinian civilians are somehow less valuable than Israeli civlians. It also means that you think Palestinians are somehow responsible and culpable and therefore 'deserve' it. This is consequence of dehumanising rhetoric such as 'human shields'. This is racism, pure and simple.

Assume you guys will be buying up all these knives then….

        • +1

Hey, one correction - it's not prison because prison implies that they did something wrong and prison has stable supply of water, food, electricity. The correct term is concentration camp.

          • +1

@cmyk: Good point! And thank you for that correction.

          • -1

@cmyk: For sure! Can we please let Egypt know so they can open their border?!

        • -1
          1. So did Egypt? Why?
          2. Preventing terror comes at a cost.
          3. They literally found and will continue to find evidence for that. Hamas has total disregard to the lives of Palestinians.
          4. Again false, and journalists have been given access to that information and locations.
          5. It actually does!

That's the narrative in a nutshell my friends, spread lies and misinformation and hopefully the younger generation is too lazy to do their own research!

          • @BargainCowboy: Egypt and other Arab puppet regimes play along to the rhetoric of their western masters that put them into power in the first place. These leaders are more Israeli if not the same, and suppress the desires of their own people and have horrible human rights records themselves. All these leaders are Satan worshipping secret society members. If these Arab nations were free from these criminals, Israel simply wouldn't have the nerve to commit the atrocities they are with the Arabs surrounding them in all directions. In fact Israel simply wouldn't exist.
Revolts are brewing in these Arab nations. Their own people call these leaders apostates. Things will change. Every tyrant or a tyrant nation has always met their downfall and this will be no different. Things will simply not stay the same.

            • +1

@spy: Dude don't engage with bargain cowboy. See my discussion with him. He literally celebrates the slaughter of over 4,000 children. His opinions are repugnant and driven entirely by islamaphobia. Don't waste your time and energy engaging with people who don't have a shred of humanity in their souls.

Despite his confidence, he also knows absolutely nothing and speaks entirely from a place of racism and repeats the same boring propaganda lines without critical thought.

Furi is one of those brands that inflates all their RRPs and then always has the products discounted to make people think they are getting a bargain.

Honestly not even worth it at $60 when the IKEA 365+ range of knives are much higher quality and can be bought for around the same price.

      • Ooo didn't know about the IKEA knives

      • Are all the 365 knives great?

        • +8

          Nah just 364 of them

      • Exactly. These belong to Harris Scarfe (coincidently, another Spotlight company like Anaconda) that have inflated RRPs.

  • Alright, I bought one. What a rush.

  • +5

FWIW, I have a Furi knife set just like this but in a block. I don’t recommend them for general use. The blades are too thick. I bought a delightfully thin and sharp Kiwi knife for $10 and I much prefer that. Not a knife expert, just giving my experience.

    • +2

If you like thinner blades, Japanese knives might be right up your alley

    • Yeah, I bought a number of them without trying them first. Ended up giving them away. :/

Like you, I didn't like how thick the blades were. Well, at least the cook's knife anyway from memory. It felt like trying to push a block splitter through onions or potato. Maybe that's just my skill level, but I do much better with a thinner blade. I guess I also didn't like the weight and all steel construction (ie the handle) either really.

However, having said that, they were comfortable to hold due to the shape of the handle . And no problems using a pinch grip either. Actually, the bread knife was pretty good.

  • +1

People on Reddit seem split on these knives. They either say they're great, or hate them

    • +2

I don't have this set but do have a set of furi. They're fine but nothing special and I generally find they lose their edge very quickly. I've slowly been replacing them with victorinox which do a much better job.

      • Yeah. That sounds consistent with some enthusiasts saying that it's not very hard and have to be frequently sharpened.

      • Victorinox here too. Can chuck them in the dishwasher and they hold their edge for ages.
I use a combination of wavy edge 12cm steak and Fibrox 12cm (5.2003.12) for food prep. Used to use the kiwi knives which were awesome but lost their edge quite fast.
Had Furi as well before but they are too thick (they are Japanese named but German thicc?!) for my liking

      • +1

Victorinox gets a bad name, but they're affordable workhorses. If you're not trying to impress anyone and just want the right tool for the job you could do much worse.

        • Who gave victorinox a bad name? They’re the best affordable knife brand. It’s just that these are probably cheaper than what I could grab victorinox knives for.

      • Same here

  • Good for xmas pressie

      I have three questions.

      1. Why are you ruining this website by repeatedly inserting completely off-topic posts advocating your own political agenda, in utterly inappropriate threads?

      2. Are you so arrogant as to think that people who visit specific threads seeking information about specific bargains will be the least bit interested in reading your political rants instead?

      3. Are you deluded?

      • +1
        • I think boycotts are an incredibly powerful and effective way to oppose injustice in the world, as we saw with the apartheid regime enacted in South Africa.
        • I think we are witnessing something truly horrific unfolding before our eyes - a genocide and ethnic cleansing. I'm sorry if you think this is a 'political rant', but I believe that there are certain issues which speak to our humanity. This is one of them.
        • I am hoping that this information and context may persuade someone, anyone, in joining me in support of preventing a genocide.

If you disagree, feel free to ignore. There isn't any need to be insulting.

  • I don't think these knives have ever sold any at RRP. Just like those $1500 RRP emperor whateveryacallits that House sells

I don't trust the Spotlight click-and-collect systems to ever work successfully, and they have a bad habit of cancelling your order after only a couple of days, but in this particular instance I got lucky.
