NVIDIA Shield TV Pro 4K HDR Android TV Streaming Media Player $278 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Harvey Norman

170

$278 is lowest in a while
I would be waiting though and price matching at Good Guys in a few days and using Gift Cards for $236.3 which I think would be all time low? (Correction $218 would be all time low)

  • I went through 2 of these from amazon and they would glitch and hang nearly every use, forcing restarts from black screens. Went to apple TV and haven't had too much of a hassle since.

I would get an apple tv but they are still missing features I care about. No lossless audio and issues with some Dolby Vision codecs. If you want it all this is it.

Yeah definitely drawbacks, hopefully they are more feature rich for next year's model.

Thankfully, I only use plex and haven't needed those features.

Depends on your use case. If you're not a pirate, absolutely the ATV is a better device.

      • I exclusively use 'arrs' and haven't run into any issues with compatibility, but I am no audiophile or cinephile, and stick to 720p/1080p for remote sharing.

Suggest if Amazon an option compared with HN go Amazon. That way Gerry Harvey isn’t rewarded for the Gerry Harvey tax.
      Never forgive, never forget.

  • Can I set this up as a media centre running a BitTorrent client? Ideally want something with a linked phone app to start torrents downloading remotely but not a deal breaker if PC required.

    • Could probably do that with Kodi or Stremio with the torrentio addon. Kodi addons are pretty good used with services like real-debrid.

Still holding there value. For a 4 year old device they still hold up today, best android box hands down. But come on nvidia, these were on a 2 yearly release cycle, we are well overdue for a new model.

    • +3

Will come out shortly after the new switch surely

Apparently they have no plans to release another. These sell well and they just don't make them enough money to warrant another one. AI is their focus now.

        • Surely there will be Switch chips that don't make the cut which would be put into use in a new Shield. Right? right..?

          • @TheContact: Correct, there will be a Shield update along with either that, or the collaboration they are doing with Mediatek.

AI acceleration and 4K/8K/16K video are not mutually exclusive concepts.

  • Still a decent bit of kit but it's getting a little long in the tooth.

  • Same price at Amazon

  • +1

Cheapest was $198 plus surcharge at Centrecom, surcharge was less than $4 depending which card you paid with.

    • Yup, not sure why we're celebrating this north of $200, let alone this much so. Getting into HTPC territory.
